I have already featured slacker pop rockers Fanzine who are sure to win the hearts of Replacements , Pavement and Japandroids fans, and now I turn my attention to Canadian electronic shoegaze dub pop experimentalists Akido . Ik ga je vertellen over aKido. Achter deze naam gaat de Canadees Kim Gaboury schuil. Op zijn album Gamechanger mengt hij downtempo electronica met een gitaarpopsound. Dit prachtig e album zit nu al dagenlang op repeat in mijn cd- én mp3-speler. De afzonderlijke tracks varieren van pop, dance tot psychedelica. En als totaalplaatje vloeit het in elkaar als een logisch geheel. Het knappe is, dat de muziek op het eerste gehoor heel relaxed is, maar het muzikaal wel heel ingenieus in elkaar zit. Tijdloos en toch helemaal van nu. Ik weet zeker dat deze cd hoog in mijn eindejaarslijstje eindigt. En het leuke is dat het album [...]
