Here it is, my list of the 25 best albums of 2012! It really was a fabulous year in music. There were some amazing break out stars like Frank Ocean and the Alabama Shakes, and then there were veterans who staged impressive comebacks, like No Doubt and Fiona Apple. Coming up with the final 25 wasn't easy (I started out with a list of close to 50) but in the end I went with the music that I not only listened to obsessively, but left an impression on me in terms of originality and artistry. See the full list of [...]

30. Alabama Shakes - Boys and Girls - Fueled by huge buzz, I mean mega mega buzz the Alabama Shakes released their first LP this year, Boys and Girls, a record that might not have been able to be talked about more than it was. This record is all built around one thing, Britney Howard's voice. She's got soul, she's got that raspy, throaty voice. The music is a 602s soul / rock hybrid that fits Howard's voice perfectly. If you haven't heard of this band already a thousand times, check out the record for godsakes. Listen: [...]

All week long we’ve been counting down our staff’s picks for the best albums of 2012. Today, on one of the last workdays of the year, we reveal the top of our list. When Hidden Track was started in 2006 there were plenty of sites dedicated to indie rock and a slew of sites devoted to improvisational and classic rock bands, but few blogs (and bands for that matter) bridged the gap between the forms. That’s where we came in and five years later the results of our [...]
From the resilient folk of Bhi Bhiman to the poignant rap of Brother Ali and Oddisee, from Bob Dylan’s continuing lyrical excursion to the catchiness of The Dig and The Mowgli’s, here are my 20 favorite albums of 2012. Alabama...

Going through the motions like a fake, uninterested being of bogus individuality and worldly repeated ignorance, ATO Records 2012 Fall Sampler provides you with a refreshing opposite to an overly used and a misinformed trait of accepted common belief. Striking the ground with a bunch of heavenly rock matches on this sampler, is a couple of exhibits from Alabama Shakes, Two Gallants and Everest. Taking you through the alternative vain is Other Lives’ ‘Take Us Alive,’ but not before reaching the finishing line with ATO’s two shapely front runners via the remarkable ‘Hold On When You [...]

#35: The Head and the Heart @ Forecastle [Original Post] I'd heard a song or two by Head and the Heart going into their show at Forecastle, but I'll admit that I was really just seeing them because there wasn't a lot of competition for their time slot at Forecastle. But just like what happens [...]
Everyone else is doing it , so I guess that means that we need to do it too. Yes, mom, we would jump off a bridge with everyone else if they were doing it.. because, that's how we roll. Top 12 Albums of 2012 (Julia) 12. Tramp - Sharon Van Etten Favorite Track : "Give Out" Totally enchanted by Sharon Van Etten's voice. Such a good album for a rainy day, and considering it rains most of the time here in Seattle, it's pretty much a good album for every day. 11. There's No Leaving Now - The Tallest Man on Earth [...]
