I´m reading Juliet, Naked at the moment, which is quite hard to put down. Really should get busy to bring you edition 16 of Wild Weekend now... Ok, ok, here goes. The iPod´s on shuffle once again, and a surprise six pack in the works. No songs from Nick Hornby´s rockstar hero Tucker Crowe alas, but a whole lot of other goodies nonetheless. Such as Fallin´ In Love by American Spring, a Brian Wilson produced pop gem from ´73. Penned by Beach Boys brother and drummer [...]

Always amazed by the far-reaching sounds of the Ethiopiques series - this track by Ethiopian jazz singer Alemayehu Eshete being a particular fave. Alemayehu Eshete - Telantena Zare

Picoby Band D'Aborney - Mi Ma Kpe Dji (mp3) ( buy ) Don't want to leave you stranded on such a lovely day. This is from the first of Analog Africa 's three (so far) compilations of 1960s-70s music from Benin & Togo, African Scream Contest . Squeezed between Nigeria and Ghana, the mandatory mix of traditional melodies and rhythms and Latin and Congolese influences in those countries' popular music was complicated by highlife from one side and afrobeat from... you know, it's easy to stop thinking about the [...]

Alemayehu Eshete, also known as the Ethiopian James Brown. Proof positive of the Godfather's maxim that if a man has good hair and teeth, he's got it all. Download: MP3: Alemayehu Eshete-"Tèy Geryèlèshem"

Finally i will see my friend Sean Rogg´s art exhibition. Just a few hours left. I have no idea what´s happening in Romania with Jonny Puma and Arnie Becker. Maybe they have been bitten by female vampires by now... I think we all know by now that we all come originally from Africa, and that includes even the music. Listen to these african uptempo songs and you will understand where the origin of all modern dancemusic comes from. Alemayehu Eshete - Addis Ababa Bete [...]

Dead Meat - "The King" Dead Meat have slouched out of the mire, covered in old gravy and sort of look out beyond the horizon, eyes unfocused. They have "released" a couple of demos, Demo #1 and Demo #2 , and they show a lot of promise. They play dark-haired dark-priest 90s rock with the same thunder drums and buzzing guitars every song. I get lulled in the smell of it, the colour, I stand swaying and drugged until "I'm glad I never made no damn decision", and I fall into it, the mire, [...]

Well, I'm going to play it again. Because someone has to: Eli "Paperboy" Reed and the True Loves - Take My Love with You (mp3) ( buy ) Disappointed the band ( myspace ) didn't play this, more so than I could be when Radiohead didn't get to "Let Down." Because of the odds - Reed and his band has one album and a couple singles, and even in a short set you'd think they'd play their best number - and because this is the song , kids. Huge [...]
