Our fourth episode will, not only, have some great new tracks up (from Beach House, Brilliant Colors, and Total Slacker) but we are also having a contest. Just use these easy to follow steps and we will send you a unique cassette tape of today's show sans commentary, of course. We are also including a "one-of-a-kind" hand designed sleeve for the cassette. Cool, right? Well, whether you think so or not just email us at weeklytapedecktix@gmail.com with the artist name and title of the very last song in our rotation. First person to do so is the winner! Honestly, it's [...]
The whole Real Estate/Ducktails collective are backing up Real Estate bassist Alex Bleeker on his self titled LP. The group consists of: Alex Bleeker (Real Estate), Matt Mondanile (Real Estate, Ducktails), Martin Courtney IV (Real Estate) and Julian Lynch. The LP will be the great Underwater Peoples first full-length release, so it's a pretty big [...]

Underwater Peoples will soon be releasing their first LP and I'm glad to see that it will be from Alex Bleeker and the Freaks . Once again, Sawyer has added some sexy words and if you are curious about how Bleeker sounds it's "..as genuine and classic as an adolescent's Playboy collection or a fat, bald man in a Red Corvette." Really like how Bleeker looks like a don in the cover. Limited to 1000 copies, pre-order now . Alex Bleeker and the Freaks - Animal Tracks (Orginally written by Mountain Man)
This is very nice. Alex Bleeker and The Freaks' debut hits shelves next week via Underwater Peoples. In the meantime, check out this very Neil Young rendering on Mountain Man's "Animal Tracks." And don't miss the original; in fact check that out first if you haven't, either here or here. You'll thank me later. MP3: Alex [...]
While the band comes from New Jersey, this slice of slow-burning rock comes almost obviously courtesy of Neil Young. Bleeker's voice is heavily indebted to the Canadian on this track, which comes as the first single from their self-titled debut album. "Animal Tracks" is a cover of Vermont group Mountain Man, but the Freaks take that haunting pastoral and inject it with a dirty buzz and vicious guitar solo to create something entirely their own. Alex Bleeker & the Freaks - "Animal Tracks" From the band's forthcoming long-player , out 11/27 on Underwater Peoples . You may recognize this track as a cranked-up version of this song by Mountain Man . (via Fader )

Alex Bleeker (bassist in Real Estate and all round nice guy) and his Freaks will be releasing their debut long player on the always amazing Underwater Peoples in the coming weeks. Having been lucky enough to hear it, I can safely say the Neil Young & Crazy Horse/ Grateful Dead comparisons are not over the top. Its rambling, timeless music for driving along long lonely roads and sitting, staring at mountains and stuff. This video from Sawyer of Underwater Peoples explains more, with 'Summer Epilogue' playing in the background:

To conclude our three day flight through the many orbital rings of Real Estate, we've got a strummer from bassist Alex Bleeker and his Freaks. You might recognize some of them from Hotbox videos past. Judging by "Never Goin' Back"'s titular refrain, Bleeker loves summer just as much as his bandmates do. Memories.

This week is CMJ, and while most people are going to things every hour of the day I'm being very selective (shows aren't conducive to studying)... but one of those things that I will be attending is happening tonight! Group Tightener Records is having their showcase at Monster Island ! If you don't know Group Tightener yet...you probably soon will...they are about to release the first Best Coast [...]

In life, the best things are usually the ones you don't know about, stumble upon and end up enjoying thoroughly. It's hard to plan. The best things just fall into place. As is the case with music festivals (and CMJ is no exception to this rule) it may be the reason for the phrase. Like SXSW, CMJ is full of unofficial parties, secret shows, and all sorts of RSVP lists that open the doors to epic parties, or parties that could be epic but no one knew about them, and hence, no one showed up. Luckily, we're going to clear [...]

Alex Bleeker & the Freaks - "Never Goin' Back" From Bleeker's forthcoming 7-inch for Group Tightener . (via Chocolate Bobka )
Alex Bleeker & the Freaks - Spring Jam This is the sound of the weeking fading out into slumber: like the wispy coda to a classic Neil Young song or a lethargic take on those classic dad rock anthems about sunny open freeways, girls and everything being all right now. I have it on good authority that the forthcoming album from Alex Bleeker and the Freaks, a splinter project of Real Estate's bassist, is killer. And you can hear an extreme lo-fi cover of Mountain Man's 'Animal Tracks' (posted earlier in the week) on their [...]

Alex Bleeker, who is probably most widely known for playing bass in the band Real Estate, teamed up with a few fellow musicians to craft some traditionally spun folk music. Alex Bleeker & The Freaks will apparently release their debut album (produced by Matt Mondanile of Real Estate/Ducktails) sometime this summer via Underwater Peoples records. Alex Bleeker & the Freaks - "Prisoner" From a forthcoming Underwater Peoples 123, due out in "the near future."

Alex Bleeker & The Freaks is Bleeker's (bassist in Real Estate) solo thing. Sounding much more 70s Neil Young country folk rock than his other band, but still with that lovely beach pop vibe. The Freaks backing him here are Martin Courtney ( Real Estate singer/ guitarist) on bass and backing vocals, Matt Mondanile (aka Ducktails ) on drums and Julian Lynch , who's putting out a split 7" with Ducktails soon , on guitar. Get the 7 minute "Summer Song > Epilogue" (Live At Silent Barn) from Stereogum

Epilogue" (Live At Silent Barn)" align="right" border="0"> If you take a look at the accompanying photo, you might recognize Alex Bleeker as BTW Real Estate's bassist. What you can't see is the Freaks' frontman is surrounded by a couple other folks from his more well-known band: Matt Mondanile, aka Ducktails, handles drums and Martin Courtney does backing vocals and bass. The one non-Real Estater is Julian Lynch, who you might remember from his recent split 7" with Ducktails . For all the associations, it's a different, rootsier monster. Take a listen to the twangy, [...]
