We just interviewed the wonderful Alex Winston and talked about her new album, her strange sources of inspiration, and some other very random stuff. Her debut album, King Con , drops on March 5th, but thanks to RCRD LBL we can get a taste of what's in store with the driving album opener, "Fire Ant." Alex Winston - "Fire Ant"

Ahhh February, when the weather is not consistent, children of love find more ways to spend money on each other and we at Kick Kick Snare show our lust for all of you, by throwing 20 songs on a digital mixtape (CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE). We here at KKS are extremely excited for February, why? Because we've got some monstrous, mind melting, disco ball-breaking stuff going on backstage, and we will soon be inviting you to the VIP room. In light of this exciting month in KKS history, I thought it would be interesting to expand our horizons with [...]

On April 10th, V2 / Cooperative Music will release King Con , the debut album from female singer Alex Winston. Winston had a lot of help in building her debut album -- Charlie Hugall (Florence and the Machine, Ed Sheeran, Crystal Fighters), Bjorn Yttling (Lykke Li) and The Knocks -- while her early EPs were created using Garageband. Winston's more refined sound is evident on her first single "Choice Notes", which she just released a video for. Watch the video below, and check out the new album's tracklisting. Read more »

When I listen to Choice Notes I picture a gang of feisty winged pixies breaking into a record store and ransacking the place for Foster the People, Lykke Li, and maybe Fun. records leaving only a light sprinkling of glitter behind. Then they fly into an attic, dance around, and record the little gems that will comprise Alex Winston's forthcoming LP King Con. The video matches the song's quirky, joyful vibes by melding colorful albeit dilapidated sights and sounds with confetti and fireworks! It's kind of the gritty hip-indie version of Michael Buble's " Haven't Met You Yet " video. [...]

In the new video for "Choice Notes," Alex Winston once again struts the line between childhood innocence and strong adult femininity, providing a charming and thoughtful visual accompaniment to a lovely track about personal fulfillment. Music Player: Alex_Winston_Choice_Notes.mp3 [...]

Looking over the list of albums slated for release in the new few months, it's hard not to get overly giddy - 2012 is going to be a great year for music. Several bands that made names for themselves with wildly inventive and successful debuts are putting forth their sophomore efforts this year. The all-important follow-up album can be tricky, though, especially when an artist has made such a unique statement with their debut - I'm definitely eager to hear how these musicians have adapted their sound. Just a couple of weeks ago, Alex Winston (@iamalexwinston) teamed up with director Austin Peters to shoot a video for "Choice Notes" in her hometown of Detroit. Peters had previously directed her video for "Locomotive", a track from the Sister Wife EP , which debuted about a year ago. The resulting video is a little bit eerie, a little bit colourful, and obviously straight from a vivid imagination. Childlike DIY ghosts, sparklers, and Detroit's colourful East-side urban art community called "The Heidelberg Project" all make an appearance, while Winston [...]
Just in case anyone wasn't sure, Ryan Adams is still great. -Matt

For unknown reasons, I realize I never posted about Alex Winston before, despite being fascinated with her music for quite some time. After a long wait, her debut album "King Con" is finally scheduled to drop on March 6 . The American popstrel has been making kooky leftfield-pop tunes since 2010, and after two fantastic singles, "Sister Wife" and "Velvet Elvis" , she's on to scoring a hattrick with "Choice Notes" . Previously an early single, and album track on her 2011 EP, it has [...]

Ms. Winston takes her Detroit upbringing to heart in this one as she struts through the streets of her hometown. I completely forgot her debut album was just around the corner - King Con hits shelves March 6th - and given the undeniable catchy vibes of "Velvet Elvis" and "Sister Wife", it's gonna be right up my alley. On a side note, am I the only one seeing a little Skrillex influence with her hair here? Anyone? Anyone? Tweet

The lovely Alex Winston returns with a brand new video for "Choice Notes." You may remember this track from a 2010 EP of the same name. Also set to appear on her upcoming album, Detroit's own headed back to her hometown to film a video for the song with director Austin Peters. In it Alex strolls through the quirkier side of the Motor City. You know, the part haunted by bed sheet ghosts. Alex's debut LP, King Con , drops on March 5th via V2 / Co-Operative Music . [...]

In the video for her catchy, sprightly pop tune "Choice Notes," Detroit singer Alex Winston dances through some sort of outsider-artist scrapyard. Also on hand: Ghosts and fireworks. It's a fun video, impeccably filmed by Austin Peters , and it's below. Read More...
