Alexander Tucker's Dorwytch was released to almost universal acclaim. It may not have been covered on a wide variety of outlets (this very website was one that didn't pick up on it), but those that did choose to cover it lavished it with praise generally reserved for artists much more hyped than Tucker ever has been. So, being the dutiful internet reader and music fan that I am, I went out and purchased the album, despite having never listened to any of Tucker's previous five. I'm a big fan of the blind buy, but this [...]

In a world where 'folk' is synonymous with plaid clad men sporting big beards and a brace-of-dead-rabbits affectation, thank heavens for Alexander Tucker . Don't get me wrong, Tucker is as anachronistic as they come. Except his output isn't contained to the time period that's spawned a prairie's worth of ukulele strumming songwriters. Instead, Third Mouth (Tucker's sixth album) extends its inquisitive tendrils all over the place: past, future, here, there (all while taking the A roads to avoid the sprawling, territory hungry city of Mumford). The album takes its [...]

Thrill Jockey are rapidly gaining a firm place in our affections with their uniquely off-kilter and diverse offerings making them a label to treasure. The latest release to cross our in-box comes from idiosyncratic singer-songwriter Alexander Tucker . Notwithstanding the sleeve art for Third Mouth , which Mrs M for one will find most acceptable, this record breaks new ground for Tucker by combining minimalist string arrangements with electronic manipulations and drones to produce doom chamber-pop songs and psychedelic music-concrete collages. Try the psych-pop and ambient overtones of Window Sill [...]

Alexander Tucker - Third Mouth By Tom Bolton Third Mouth has arrived, and not a moment too soon. When Alexander Tucker released Dorwytch last year to unanimous approval, there was a sense of excitement that his considerable talents had crystallised into a music that made peculiar sense. Only Tucker could have made Dorwytch , a collision of layered, drone sound and psych-folk that was rich, deep and strange. Third Mouth , then, is the next dispatch from an expedition into unexplored [...]

Alexander Tucker's second release for Thrill Jockey begins with the listener drawn through a creaky door into a dusty shed; from the "murky spaces within", a hand opens to reveal a dried seahorse as a blissful series of droning chords descend. This song, 'A Dried Seahorse," perfectly sets the scene for the rest of the album as we're taken through a series of vividly surreal lyrics and loopy psych-folk. The songs' organic elements - violins, acoustic guitar, vocals and some subtle percussion - vie for attention with looped samples and psychedelic drones. 'Mullioned View' [...]

Well, you knew this was coming. Dorwytch hinted (OK, explained ) that Alexander Tucker was moving closer and closer towards a kind of English pastoralism and now he's got to Third Mouth, where the drones and buzzes move still further away from the longer forms of his early albums and head towards smaller, yet exquisitely designed, packages of psychedelic folk. This is like someone's swallowed Rob Young's Electric Eden, spent a few long nights reassembling the component parts (alongside a few glasses of wormwood and mead ) and then regurgitated the lot as a fully formed corn dolly. This [...]

Alexander Tucker is an impressive songwriter that clearly isn't afraid to patron old school European Folk. That being said, nothing on Dorwytch sounds like the same old song and dance. Read more » http://rpc.blogcatalog.com/ http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ ping
We met Alexander Tucker at the TransMusicales of Rennes, he told us about his past on hardcore band ans how it roots his music.Check it out.

This event wasn't originally due to be held at Cafe Oto, but in Bush Hall on the other side of town. Would such a stately venue, with its elaborate Edwardian plasterwork and ornate chandeliers, have been any place for a band like Æthenor? Its members - Stephen O'Malley, Daniel O'Sullivan, Kristoffer Rygg and Steve Noble - may draw from genres as disparate as jazz, metal, prog rock, and electronic music, but they are essentially an experimental music band, and one increasingly drawn to the idea of live improvisation, and as such it felt right that they played at London's improvised [...]
Tegenwoordig zit Tucker...
There is always some kind of mystery in Alexander Tucker's music. Like a gloomy undertow that flows under the songs, with a passionate desire to reach a safe shore. However, he turns his back on the singer-songwriter melancholia in the sense the he sounds like a person who doesn't let life take over him, but rather [...]

EZRA KOENIG(Cover)The head-man of Vampire Weekend has gone off on a tangent and I have to say I'm pleased with the results. Ezra Koenig decided to do some solo work, specifically on Paul Simon's old tune "Papa Hobo" and its rather nice. Though I love Vampire Weekend's style, Koenig has strayed from their erratic style for this piece. Give it a listen, I promise I won't let you down with this one.
