A few weeks ago , I detailed the artists and a few collaborators on Wes Anderson's newest film soundtrack, Moonrise Kingdom . Click HERE for a Spotify playlist of the Soundtrack which is limited due to a large amount of the songs being original pieces. A few of the movements on the Spotify playlist are the correct song but will be preformed by different composers. Speaking of which, here is the first taste of an Alexandre Desplat original for Moonrise [...]

I have a small habit of listening to a film's soundtrack before actually seeing the film. I've been wanting to see Terrence Malick's long-awaited movie The Tree of Life for some time now, but after taking top prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival last weekend I am all the more impatient. Lucky for me, the soundtrack was released yesterday. The last piece on the soundtrack, "Skies", begins delicately and contained but slowly unravels itself into a sprawling, high-altitude atmosphere. Definitely give this a listen but only if you don't mind soundtrack-spoilers. Personal ly, [...]

( email | facebook | linkedin ) Here in the colonies, we just don't get royalty. By point of fact, the case for hereditary monarchy is pretty easy to make: the prince is shielded from the corrupting influence of the electoral process. There is no need for campaign donations, and no demands for payback after the swearing-in. In a strictly monarchic system, there are no 527 groups. Hard and soft money are foreign distinctions. The prince is likewise shielded from the passing whims [...]

Filed under: News , Movies , Awards When Trent Reznor signed on to score ' The Social Network ,' he was excited to take the challenge of taking his music to the silver screen. But the Nine Inch Nails frontman never expected that his efforts would actually nab him a Golden Globe nomination. "When I took this project on it wasn't even in my realm of my awareness that this could happen," he told [...]
The Golden Globes, in case you don't know, are the film awards handed out each year by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which is exactly what it sounds like. They're considered to be second only to the Oscars in terms of prestige, which is wholly ridiculous, since a) as opposed to the awards handed out [...]

Wes Anderson's adaptation of Roald Dahl's book Fantastic Mr. Fox was cussin fantastic. I highly recommend it. The music was also just splendid. I could go on…but I'll cut myself off. Here are some of my faves from the film: Alexandre Desplat - "American Empirical Pictures" The Wellingtons - "The Ballad of Dave Crockett" The Rolling Stones - "Street Fighting Man" Bobby Fuller Four - "Let Her Dance" [...]

Photography by Katherine Did you guys have fun with all the 2009 lists??? Good times, eh? Aren't list fun? Yeah Doris, they sure can be. I'll keep the links up over to the right at the stop of the sidebar for a little bit, in case you need a quick-click reference when sending your angry letters to Pitchfork/Stereogum/et al for their sad little lists.... lol. Well, I've got a different "best of" for you today. Anyone who's acquainted with me knows that though I love [...]
Well folks, a quick perusal of my mental meanderings rendered in written word on these pages will reveal that I am, more or less, one of a large legion of (mostly) functionally literate blogging indie rockers. Half the world is writing about many of the bands I'm mentioning on this website. I am fine with that. I make no claims to originality. Noel Murray, one of my favourite writers on AV Club , had this to say about his 'angle' on music writing: "My angle? My angle is that I'll be [...]

Ladies and gentlemen, the day of all days is upon us! The tracklisting for the New Moon soundtrack is here! And as expected, it's indie-iculous. In addition to the previously reported participation of Radiohead's Thom Yorke, Death Cab for Cutie, Bon Iver, and Grizzly Bear, the soundtrack will include contributions from Lykke Li, The Killers, Editors, Muse, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Ok Go, and Sea Wolf. Oh yeah, and Bon Iver's song will be in the form of a duet with St. Vincent. Yeah, holy shit. [...]

Canada ? Utah ? Who Cares ? I want Snow......... After going through everyone's best-of 2007 list including my mail person, the local garbage men, and my buddy's 2 year old who can't even talk yet, it seems that radiohead, arcade fire, lcd soundsystem, m.i.a. and burial are on everyone's list.
