>> Lilys is a Clicky Clicky All-Time Top Five Band, so we get very worked up when the nomadic act, led by chameleonic mastermind Kurt Heasley, gets around to releasing new music. And finally, after almost seven years , we've got some: here comes Lilys ' meandering pop masterpiece "Well Traveled Is Protest," one side of a split single being released by Virginia's Speakertree Records Nov. 13. You may recall Speakertree as the outfit that released White Laces ' excellent full-length debut Moves this past summer [ review here ]. "Well Traveled Is [...]

Skill 7 Stamina 12 MP3-download trove located HERE I can't fathom what any of the three groups comprising this LP have in common with each other, save possible geographic/scene-tied coincidences. Skill 7 Stamina 12 are blessed with the most-but-somehow-least-memorab le band ... Continue reading

Tweet As I get older I'm finding out that you have to pack more and more into every available day. Leisure time is cannibalised to the extent that non-pressing matters are normally attended to at about 11pm when the stench of getting up for paid endeavour is already a fearsome prospect. Probably explains why I've been particularly lax in my devotion to this blog of late (on that matter I've got to thank Joseph for keeping the road on the show). So [...]

A touch more Rollerskate Skinny than MBV this time, which is odd given how close both templates are. New Jersey post-shoegazers (who delved in the original shoegaze sound but operated beyond that scene’s epicentre) only recorded 2 LP’s (and a collection of their early material) but offered a good deal more than a replication of their influences. They’ve been long since abandoned though and can’t even count on a wiki page for a decent chronicling of their story. Such a shame because most of their output has a genuine melodic core amongst the apocalyptic remnants of a dozen pummelled instruments. [...]

Their name alone suggested we’d be decent bedfellows but nothing could prepare me for the brilliance of All Natural Lemon & Lime Flavors’ music. Actually no, I lie, My Bloody Valentine prepared me because they were quite obviously the template that this quintet from New Jersey based their sound on. Right now I am basking in a collection of theirs called ‘Straight Blue Line’ from 2000 that catalogued their early singles (from the early/mid nineties). And what a blast it is, feels like I’ve been teleported back to a time when innumerable statuesque shoegaze bands stalked the earth. In that [...]

Releasing a couple albums in the mid to late nineties, New Jersey’s All Natural Lemon & Lime Flavors for the most part went unnoticed sadly. Part of it I imagine was due to the constant criticism of them being just another MBV clone. At this point that could be said for a million bands, and as for ANLALF I honestly believe they weren’t THAT similar. Their first Self-Titled album was released in 1996 and was later reissued on Gern Blandsten in 2001 with some extra tracks. It’s [...]

" Some overzealous critics might describe All Natural Lemon & Lime Flavors as a cross between My Bloody Valentine and Stereolab. Sure, there are some similarities, but those who delve deeper will find more complex pleasures. Vertigo-inducing swirls of guitars and keys, beautiful indie pop sensibilities, choral vocal polyphonies and krautrock electronic experimentation create the mood. The overall effect is of shimmering beauty that subtly changes just like sunlit reflections with ethereal dreaminess. All Natural Lemon and Lime Flavors makes a point of questioning the way things are conventionally done in music. [...]
