Jessie J has been making the X Factor rounds recently. First, the British songbird hit up a US taping with her single "Domino" , then the 23-year-old delighted fans with her first-ever live performance of "Who You Are" on last night's X Factor UK. Check out the "Laserlight" singer as she sports a giant grin, one of her signature goofy faces and some wicked blue spandex pants post-show.

If you've been hanging around a bit, you may recall All Smiles ' Ten Readings Of A Warning from way back in 2007 (or their second LP that slipped by me in 2009). You may also recall that the project was fronted by the renowned Jim Fairchild of Modest Mouse and Grandaddy fame. Fairchild is back and this time he's brought along a few friends - Joe Plumber (also of Modest Mouse), Gary Jarman (The Cribs) and Danny Seim (Menomena). That alone is worthy of a double-take. All Smiles' [...]

All Smiles - Staylow and Mighty MMM All Smiles is the braindchild of Jim Fairchild, better known as guitarist for Grandaddy and, now, Modest Mouse. On All Smiles' third full-length album, Staylow and Mighty , Fairchild crosses the jittery, lively, traveling guitar riffs of Modest Mouse with the orchestral, lush instrumentation of Grandaddy. It's an album that plays with a loose and easy character, never coming across as anything but a relaxed, creative outlet for Fairchild to take the songwriting reins. [...]
Fans of inoffensive, pseudo-soulful rock are probably excited about the new Middle Brother album. Similarly, fans of drinking too much and curb stomping are amped about the new Dropkick Murphys . And people as discriminate about the double switch as they are about dad rock will probably enjoy The Baseball Project 's second volume. For everyone else, there's Lykke Li , Mike Watt , Lumerians and All Smiles , among others. :: Acrylics - Lives and Treasure [...]
Departing is the second album from western Canadian (the rural part of Alberta, eh!) band The Rural Alberta Advantage after an auspicious self-released debut in late 2008 made the Vague Space top 2 albums of the year (losing only to Wolf Parade's At Mount Zoomer ). That album, Hometowns , was filled with very short instant rock classics about a variety of Canadian cities that I've never been to ("Edmonton", "The Deathbridge in Lethridge", "Frank, AB") and included some of the catchiest guitar tracks I'd heard in a long time ("Four Night Rider", [...]
FOO FIGHTERS(Rock)OK folks, it's time to drop something big on you. The Foo Fighters seventh full length studio album, Wasting Light, is coming out very soon. Here we have the first track that's been released from the album. Unfortunately I cannot offer you a free download, as to my knowledge it doesn't exist. But at least you can all get a taste of this grungier sound the Fighters are exploring.

We were turned on to Jim Fairchild's (Modest Mouse, formerly Grandaddy) solo project All Smiles by You Ain't No Picasso. He will be releasing his album, Staylow and Mighty next week. Take a listen to the track Sun, Number One. All Smiles; Sun, Number One
I got a really nice letter from Jim Fairchild (Modest Mouse, formerly of Grandaddy) the other day. I was unaware of his solo project All Smiles, but I knew I had to check it out about three lines into the letter. On the new record, Staylow and Mighty, Jim rounded up his bandmate Joe Plummer [...]
All Smiles is the solo project from Jim Fairchild. You may not know his name right away, but you're probably familiar with his guitar work for Grandaddy and Modest Mouse. Staylow and Mighty, the third album from All Smiles, gets its release on March 1st. Fairchild has some help laying down the textures on this new album. Modest Mouse's Joe Plummer, Gary Jarmen of The Cribs, and Menomena's

As music CV's go he's got one that is hard to top. Jim Fairchild was an integral part of Grandaddy, plays guitar with Modest Mouse and produced albums for, amongst others, hugger faves Dappled Cities. He also makes music for his own project All Smiles, titled as you'll soon discover with a sense of knowing (much like his name really). He is currently running a kickstarter campaign to record a third LP so while you ponder a pledge let this tune win you over. Crucially for those of short attention spans the core of melody appears somewhat late [...]

File under limited-time offers: Jim Fairchild, the former guitarist for Grandaddy and the current guitarist in Modest Mouse , has been busy touring and working on his third album as All Smiles . I backgrounded it last November when All Smiles made a couple tracks available; now Fairchild is offering the entirety of his sophomore disc "Oh for the Getting and Not Lett Go" for free, for the rest of the summer. Right nice of him, and well worth your e-mail address. ||| Download: "Oh for the [...]

Nokkur ár eru liðin síðan hin fína hljómsveit Grandaddy lagði upp laupana. Gítarleikari sveitarinnar, Jim Fairchild, er nú genginn til liðs við Modest Mouse en í stundum milli stríða sinnir hann sólóverkefninu All Smiles . Undir því nafni hafa komið út tvær plötur sem Fairchild hefur unnið sjálfur eða með vinum, en yfirleitt er trommarinn Joe Plummer úr Modest Mouse og The Black Heart Procession með í för. Nýjasta afurð All Smiles heitir Oh For The Getting And Not Letting Go og kom út á síðasta ári, en Farichild hefur ákveðið [...]

Podéis descargar "All For The Getting And Not Letting Go" en su [...]

Mark Linkous committed suicide over the weekend, and among the many remembrances of and tributes to the Sparklehorse main man is the following, penned by ex-Grandaddy guitarist Jim Fairchild, who now makes music as All Smiles , and sent today to his e-mail list: Among many of the great memories I have of my happy times in rock and roll, one of the happiest comes from a festival in the U.K. in the summer of 2001. Grandaddy was playing on the same day as [...]

All Smiles — the nom de tune of songwriter-guitarist Jim Fairchild — this week released a new EP, "Fall Never Fell," the follow-up to his sophomore album "Oh For the Getting and Not Letting Go" (which is also finally seeing physical release). Fairchild, the former Grandaddy guitarist who is now touring axeman in Modest Mouse, again collaborated with Solon Bixler ( Great Northern ), Nik Freitas (Mystic Valley Band) and Joe Plummer ( Modest Mouse ) on the new songs. In addition to the new EP, he's releasing a free download of "The Comparison Blouse," [...]

This feeling has been percolating for a long time. I'm not even sure where to start, to tell you the truth. It has to do with letting go, I guess, at the heart of it. Letting go of a child, letting go of my hopes of how things might be, and letting go of my own regrets. I suppose I'm going through this a little prematurely, as he won't leave for college until next fall, but it's really hitting me hard right now that soon my son will be gone away and I [...]

Odawas hopped onto a pretty fantastic show at du Nord tomorrow (8:30pm, $10), opening for a fellow who just happens to dabble in historical indie rock bands (Modest Mouse, Grandaddy). Jim Fairchild grew up in Fresno (where he met Jason Lytle of Grandaddy) and recently aided Modest Mouse with some tourdates. But he primarily plays with a reputable group of Sleater-Kinney, Black Heart Procession and Menomena members, All Smiles (Portland). All Smiles - "Moth in a Cloud of Smoke" Odawas - "Harmless [...]
