The classic elements are deeply rooted in many philosophies and worldviews. For example, to the Babylonians these elements were sea, sky, earth, and wind, to the greeks the elements were air, water, earth, and fire, and to the Chinese they were wind, metal, fire, water, and earth. For today's playlist, we will be adapting a classic element set familiar to most of us: Earth , Wind , Fire and Water . Now before I dive into the playlist, which [...]

Sure we're a music blog, but today is LeBron's day and the rest of us are just waiting until 9 PM EDT. Though I generally concur with Brian's comments earlier and am well aware of the absurdity of this entire situation, I still can't pull myself away from hysteria. Collectively, we all have a vested interest in the outcome of tonight's shenanigans: three of us currently reside in Cleveland, I am a New Yorker via Chicago currently living in Brooklyn, and all four of us (I assume) hate Miami. Say what you will about the Summer of LeBron, [...]

Photography by gabriele chiapparini Man, I love our community ... I really do. Monday, we shared member and photo contest winner Isa's Autumn inspired mixtape , right? Well today, I've got another gem for you. This time it's our man Walzac and his beauty of a mixtape For Once I Wish To Sail . As he wrote, "With the pleasant [...]

1. The Helio Sequence - Harmonica Song - For a long time, I thought this album cover was something like two lungs made of different sized dots. But it's way cooler than that, as you can see here. Two. Dudes. This song totally rocked live, it's hard to believe two guys could bring it like that. This sounds like a really good indie rock band being accompanied by someone playing Nintendo. [from Love and Distance | buy ] 2. Run Dan Run - The Turnover - This [...]

It's time for another mix, and the concept for this one is pretty simple. It includes songs that have the name of a city or state in the title. While putting this mix together, it surprised me the number of songs that are written about cities and states. I'm sure a lot of songs are born because of something that stands out to the songwriter about the cities and states that they pass through as they tour across the country. Also, a lot of songs are written about the hometowns or states that they grew up [...]

It's fair to assume that nearly everyone, by now, has heard about Barry Bonds smashing a historic homerun out of the park to pass Hank Aaron as the all-time homerun leader. Some of you may not care about sports, some of you may like Bonds, and some of you may be exploding with emotion over this thing - I, however, am entirely sick of hearing the commentary and hoopla surrounding Bonds. I love MLB and watch more Sportscenter than is humanly acceptable, but I doubt I'm the only one asking the media to give it a rest. [...]
The Magnetic Fields are my favorite band. Now normally The Pixies would be my reply to that question. However I have been enjoying the work of Mr. Merritt so much lately that I think I might have to move them to that coveted spot. It's a difficult thing to say, as I've had much history with the Pixies. Then I need to shape Joanna Newsom into this judgement, my favorite musical thing in the world right now. She's not a band though, but rather is a singer/songwriter per se. I hate that terminology. In any case 69 Love Songs [...]
Sorry, but I don't know if I can give a "normal" post this week, I'm still pissed... and I haven't even mentioned hitting a deer the other night (it's ok, everyone was fine, except for my right headlight and the surrounding bumper panels... oh, and the deer) or coming up one point shy of making the NJPT tournament (don't ask, F Teddy). So anyway, I'm going to be getting stinking drunk over the next few days and hopefully I'll forget the disaster that has been this past weekend. But for now, go Georgetown. Go Villanova. [...]
