Due to life and work getting in the way, it's taken me over a week to finally type up some thoughts about about the record club we held last week . On Monday, January 14, 2008, Allen Toussaint officially became a septuagenarian. Still the walking/talking/performing definition of a class act, he wears his 70 years extremely well. August 29th is the two year anniversary of one of the saddest and worst catastrophes the modern United States has ever faced. Days later, a city was left in ruin and essentially dead. Michelle Shocked has written a new song for Mardi Gras (Feb 20) called Hardcore Hornography. It's rockin' and fun and totally in the Carnival spirit and keeps our awareness up about the need for continued support of New Orleans. It's rockin' and fun and totally in the Carnival spirit and keeps our awareness up about the need for continued support of New Orleans. swoonI don't know a lot about Allen Toussaint. What little I know i've learned from Allmusic. I know that he's earned a place in the Rock n' Roll Hall Of Fame for his work with The Meters, his production work, arranging, session work and solo records. And I know that he made one of my favorite records of all-time in 1975's Southern Nights . Southern Nights is the kind of record that makes crate digging worthwhile.
