I love Indietracks. In preparation for writing this, I've been concerned that anything I say is just going to be horribly gushing. I've gone over the weekend again and again looking for negatives to include in this. I didn't come up with very much. This is a festival that can seemingly do no wrong to me, and what's written below will reflect that. With that said, let's jump aboard the train toward the Midland Railway Centre in Derbyshire for a look back at this year's Indietracks. FRIDAY [...]

Once again, Indietracks was an absolute delight. The proper review (you know, the one with words and stuff) will follow tomorrow, but here are the fruits of my photographic labour: [...]

Allo Darlin' first caught my attention with "My Heart is a Drummer," a rare fragrant whiff among the hours of dung that filled the SXSW 2010 bittorrent compilation and a song that made my cull of the set's best 50 tracks. "Drummer's" chorus memorably found singer Elizabeth Morris' Aussie-gone-Brit accent reflecting Steven Malkmus or Britt Daniel's American spin on British rock enunciation - "my heart is a drum- uh - who, in turn, mirror the Beatles, who themselves looked to early '60s U.S. soul. Allo' Darlin's roots don't run quite that deep: The London-based band's self-titled debut seems intent [...]

On Tuesday night I went to the Allo Darlin' album launch at The Lexington. It was an excellent night all round. Allo Darlin' played to the packed and appreciative room that they deserve and Standard Fare continue to get better each time I see them. Nothing I say though is going to sum up the night in as lovely a way as this . The third band on the bill were The Middle Ones , who I wasn't familiar with. I tend to be pretty sceptical of opening bands. Mostly you just get someone local thrown [...]

"Emily, why you stealing my boyfriend?" Bumbling about on their own separate ways on London's streets until one fateful day, Allo, Darlin' came to be when four people found each other and the music they make, and now, I found them. Your turn. Like all things found, it can either be trash or treasure, and Allo, Darlin' most certainly is the latter. Rounding out to be one heck of a foursome, Allo, Darlin' is a hodgepodge of all the things to love in pop and have drawn equivalents to include company like Belle [...]

You'd be hard pushed to find a dull moment in this short collection from Allo Darlin'.

Allo Darlin' are awesome. Their songs are full of heart and naivety, joy and hope, and chilli. Their album, recorded underneath the Duke of Yuke on Brick Lane, was released this week with little fanfare but is a multifaceted gem of an album which on repeat listening has continued to put a smile on my face. I don't really think I want to write much more about them, I think you should just listen, and if you like, check out their album launch show on the 15th at The Lexington in Islington. [...]

OFFICIAL | MYSPACE | ITUNES This band quickly became my new favorite, just yesterday, despite all the amazing new releases. Their songs are cheerful, goofy, and easy going. They sound similar to Camera Obscura both lyrically and musically, which explains why I like them so much. Their debut album was released in the UK this spring but is not yet available in the US. They also [...]

Oh, sometimes this Norwegian writer really finds it difficult writing reviews in English,- describing music without using the same descriptive words again and again.... Sometimes I just want to shout out "This album is incredibly good, - go and buy it" and nothing more than that. I rarely find albums that deserve such a review. I have found one now. So: "This album is incredibly good! Go and buy it!" Which album, you ask? Allo, [...]

Four songs into Allo Darlin' s debut album, frontwoman and songwriter Elizabeth Morris begins the joy-filled 'Kiss Your Lips' by telling of her and her paramour's visit to a Parisian fairground, where after candyfloss and popcorn he decides to "prove to me your manliness" and win her a teddy bear. This, it must be admitted off the bat, is the sort of detail that still causes a lot of suspicion amongst many otherwise right-thinking folk. You could, if being uncharitable towards such things, also cite that Australian emigre Morris favours the ukelele, elsewhere on the album namechecks [...]

Video: Indietracks 2009 in 7 Minutes by LastNightFromGlasgow The Indietracks lineup seems to be pretty much complete now (though a few more bands are still to come) with Everybody Was In The French Resistance... Now and Slow Club both being added to the bill. Perhaps more excitingly though, the day by day breakdowns have now been announced, giving us a festival that looks something like this: Friday [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News There was a neat symmetry to the second night of NYC Popfest 2010 , a four-day summit of U.S. and European fuzz-and-jangle bands. The festival is being staged at venues across Manhattan and Brooklyn and Friday night, the scene was the SoHo dive Don Hill's, where one band said, "Goodbye, sort of" and another said, "Hello, again." The group bidding farewell, at least to New York City, was the trio Pants Yell , which officially ends its seven-year run Sunday with a [...]

Click here to view the embedded video. "Amelia Fletcher never meant anything to me" declared Los Campesinos! on The International Tweexcore Underground , and for the longest time, I was just like them. My journey through indiepop has been a largely backwards one, with many of my discoveries only through the modern bands that are influenced by the bands of the past. A few years ago was the first time I heard Fletcher's seminal Heavenly , and more shockingly, it was only last year that I first listened to Tallulah [...]
