Almamy (previously here ) does a cover of the Daft Punk classic Digital Love . But frankly this warped out tune with the falsetto vocals means that the original is pretty hard to recognise. Released on 21 December. The Dub mix is the one to go for because you stop trying to reconcile it to Daft Punk's original and focus on the pleasing weirdness of the tune. Blurb: The official debut single from NYC-based electronic artist Almamy. The 2-tracker also serves the lead single off of the forthcoming project The Unf**kyou Mix*. "Digital Love" will be [...]
By Dazzle KenkiWe Discovered Almamy last year (Circa 2008) when we heard some demos from him that he sent to us. At first listen there was something that was unique about Almamy's voice, something special. Since then, he has released a slue of EPs to his name, started a new label called ModyWorks which houses even more unique and undiscovered talent.Almamy talks to us in this exclusive interview
Here's an example of why people shouldn't necessarily judge a book by its cover, or more appropriately, why we shouldn't judge an album by its artwork. I admit, when I was initially sent some info on ALMAMY I thought the dood's business was all rnb pop, but I gave a few tracks a spin or two and was hooked. This unusual singer fuses his squeaky tenor, infectious pop melodies and cheeky lyrics with stripped down yet snappy electronic sonics with enough sass to give it the deserved attention. Born in [...]
I'm sure many of you who read this blog know that twitter is a great way to discover new artists/music and that is what happened yesterday. I get twitter follow request (@jemex if your interested) from this guy I never heard of called Almamy . Checked out his twitter page and realized he was a musician who had some pretty interesting electro-pop tunes that I thought I would share it with you today. Born in 1982 in Dakar, Senegal, Almamy started out as a dancer and an actor in his early teens performing locally until he won [...]
By Conan The DestroyhhherAlmamy is one of those unique tones that may sound odd at first listen, but once you warp your ears around its uniqueness and candor, you’ll appreciate the astuteness and mastery to use a tone you’ve personally crafted to perfection for years which is what Almamy has done. Sure you can put such labels to Almamy music as ‘androgynous’ and somewhat ‘weird’ but then again it

Again we've received something quite different from what we're used to. And I'm saying "we" because I still hope my dear mate Polazoid is going to get back active sometime. So I'm talking about The Session , a new release on the ModyWork record label produced and performed by SpenceGabor and excecutive producer Almamy . If you like this relax minimal sound, it's going to be in store on the 5th of May. For now I've got a quite exclusive preview of this project. Check it out! SpenceGabor [...]
Some dark, yet beautiful is lurking its way...........it's SpenceGabor. SpenceGabor is from somewhere in Brooklyn spending much of his time recording on a Mac, using Logic Pro, in a laboratory! From the same music label that gave us Almamy, SpenceGabor is something darkly that will be lurking SOON TO A TOWN NEAR YOUWe've got a sample of a preview only MP3 of his single "The Session" for you to dig

Something in a rather minial vein for a change. The debut single by SpenceGabor, out in May, and it's pretty good. The track "The Session" (deeply uninspired name, c'mon you can do better), has strong flavours of Berlin minimal techno, with splashes of dubstep bass. It would be a really good track were it not for the vocodered vocals by someone who has too much time for Trent Reznor. You long for a less or a dub mix. The track was produced by Almamy, who featured here previously. Although [...]

1. The Streets -- The Escapists This is from the Everything is Borrowed album and reminds me a little bit of "Dry Your Eyes." 2. Jenny Lewis -- Acid Tongue The first thing I've heard from the upcoming second solo album of the same name out September 23rd. 3. Dylan Champagne -- From Here To There I've been watching The Wire, so I can't help but think of Omar as the whistling begins in this song. [...]

I've only been doing this thing since May so it's hard to believe but I'm already over 100 posts! Holy shit, that was quick. So as a thank you to all you people out there (especially the 30% plus of you from the UK) who have visited the site, I give you the latest installment of Ten Tracks You NEED. As per usual the list below is all over the place, but that's kind of what I pride myself on posting; a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Anyway, I've [...]

New music from electro/electronic artist Almany and odd, odd vocals. If you like Lykke Li, you might like this - except that Almamy's a bloke, which I didn't realise at first. Almamy was born in 1982 in Dakar, Senegal. He started out as a dancer and an actor until he won a scholarship to study and dance in Paris in the late nineties. After relocating to New York in 2002, to study at the Broadway Dance Center, Almamy found himself immersed in the club scene and writing songs. "Ballet couldn't contain [...]

I mentioned this Senegal native two weeks ago and I listened to the En Masse remix of his single "Like You Do" the entire weekend. "Like You Do (En Masse "Like We Do" Remix)" | download Almamy is currently rehearsing for some shows by the end of September and he is working with the multi-talented NY-based programmer Jimmy Edgar . The short promo tour in NYC is going to take place in [...]

I threw a bunch of songs together, because I'm bored. A misc mix. New Kaiser's single seems alright. Bad Quality tho'. enjoy: MP3: Kaiser Chiefs - Never Miss A Beat ( YSI ) MP3: Digitalism - Taken Away (Mmmathias Remix) ( YSI ) MP3: Division Kent - Offshore (The Phantom's Revenge Remix) ( YSI ) MP3: Sébastien Tellier - L'amour et la violence (Boys Noize Version) ( YSI ) MP3: [...]
I'm heading back to school tomorrow, where, I expect I'll be writing more, even though I should be having less free time. Funny how that works. I spent this past weekend at a pig roast up at a friend's cottage in Boothbay Harbor, doing pig roast-y things, like drinking and eating pig. After a very tired and somewhat sickly-feeling car ride home, I wound up with a surprise in my inbox: a couple tracks from Almamy , an electronic musician from New York. I'd heard of him before (Senegalese origin, dancer turned musician), but never [...]

NYC-based Almamy hooked us up with some fresh tracks today. Definitely worth checking out. His voice is totally ridiculous, but fits perfectly over his hooks, making it quite the experience. Plus, hes originally from Senegal, and we all know how much i love african artists. Almamy - French Kiss Almamy - Like You Do (En Masse 'Like We Do' Remix) You can grab the French Kiss single on Itunes . In other important [...]
