Outside of the lead track "King of men" , the new Alog record "Amateur" is pretty darn disappointing. It's sonically interesting, as expected, but not compelling. So let's just stick to the song at hand then: "Son of king" is a pastiche of words and notes, cut and pasted together to form a cohesive piece of music. I find the narrative hard to follow without the subtitles of the video , but even then, I'm more interested in the sound and cadence of the words than what they are saying. As for [...]

This is another rather private list I selfishly made, for my very dear friends. And for sakes of dreams. For that they are real, and everything really happened. The best you can do is never smash them. 1. Giacinto Scelsi - Antifona "on the name of Jesus" ( Giacinto Scelsi: In Nomine Lucis / Solstice / 1998 / written in 1975 ) 2. Morton Feldman - Slow Waltz ( Three Voices for Joan La Barbara / New Albion / 1989 ) 3. Alvin Curran [...]

Apparently composed with instruments they battered together themselves, Alog's new album is an unexpected delight, betraying a depth only hinted at previously. Alog's previous three albums on Rune Grammofon are precise abstract electronic affairs which never entirely escape the atmosphere of the beat, but Amateur has a ramshackle found sound charm which defies all scientific principle to propel it skywards. The new Alog find themselves appending Robert Wyatt soundy-likey vocals to the coda to" Write Your Thoughts In Water ", sprinkling twinkly percussion and fragments of words all [...]
