The rules are that every last podcast of the year (this show was created in December) is always a recap show. Some rules are breakable, others, such as the last podcast of the year, are not. Thusly, this show is some of my favorite songs of the year as they fit into the overall mix. Which is a form of saying, this isn’t a countdown or a list. I pulled a shit fuck of songs and set out making this podcast paying much attention to the overall flow of things. That said, every album that found a song on this [...]

Most years, this is a much greater presentation from myself and I’m sorry that this year isn’t the same. It’s been a shit year and that fact combined with the depression that comes with it has sapped my entire motivation to sit down and do all the HTML formatting to make this list as beautiful as (i feel) it normally is. Presentation aside. I stand by this list wholly. I may not have been able to muster the ambition to format it like years past (I am taking pills that are intended to get me back there) but [...]

I wasn’t even aware that at some point, I’d developed something in my head that I call the “ Colorado Sound ” until I heard Alone At 3AM and I kept assuming they were from Colorado every time I listened to the album. The band is actually from Cincinnati, Ohio, but their sound was custom made for the quintessential Colorado “Americana thing” label, Suburban Home, which released their album back in May. So, before we go any further, if you like Arliss Nancy, Two Cow Garage and sounds in that ilk, you’re gonna like Alone At 3AM. Alone [...]

We've have talked about Alone at 3AM before here on ENS, and I have always counted myself as a fan of this criminally underrated Cincinnati group. The guys play some great Americana, in the same vein at Drive-By Truckers or Lucero, and I just got my first taste of the new material, and it's worth your time. Here is the good news, in official release format. Alone At 3AM is excited to announce their next full-length album will be with released on Suburban Home Records . The band finalized details with [...]

Sorry for disappearing from the blog for a couple of days. No real excuse. Just been posting most of my thoughts (usually nonsensical) at Twitter . Anyway, I've been meaning to mention Cincinnati's Alone at 3am for a while now. Despite the fact that I haven't lived in Cincinnati in 16 years, I still love finding and supporting great hometown bands. I suppose the easiest way to describe these guys is to say if you like Lucero , The Gaslight Anthem , or music that combines late 90's [...]
