[Audio clip: view full post to listen] Tomorrow, the Berlin based Patrick Zigon [Highgrade, Galaktika, etc] will be releasing his first studio album - The Alpha State. According to Patrick himself - THE ALPHA STATE is a mental state of total relaxation reached short before and after sleep and when daydreaming, but it can also be entered at will, for example via hypnotizing music. The album is certainly one dubby, tripped out space odyssey. An experimental techno exploration. A deep dive into many influential genres (Dub, reggae, ambient chill [...]

This week on the blog I'm bringing the best posts from my first blog 'Mixtape4Melfi' over to 2uibestow. With the IMRO thing I've decided to delete that first blog altogether from the internet archives! Part 3 - More Ruby Tuesday posts! Ruby Tuesday – Junah [Appeared on 11th November 2008] I caught Dublin band Junah last month when they played The Village with Doris and Tuner. Junah are a 5 piece who [...]

For me one of the best gigs last year was the album launch of Human Nature the second album from Alphastates. Unlike many of the bands who split up this year Alphastates are going out with a last gig and celebration. Apparently the plan is for Catherine to release a solo effort, Gerry to work on soundtracks and the bassist Stevie to keep working with The Rags on their debut album. Alphastates - Sometimes Support comes from Herm and The DC Experiment. Admission is just €10. Here's [...]

On Twitter I'm following Tadgh Cooke who is currently on the road in America with The Guggenheim Grotto. http://twitter.com/tigercooke A few years back Tadgh released a very good debut which he didn't get the recognition he deserved. Recently Tadgh has been an integral part of Dave Geraghty's band. Here is Tadgh with a live version of the Van Morrison and adopted Jeff Buckley classic 'The Way Young Lovers Do'. Tadgh Cooke - The Way Young Lovers Do The song was recorded in 2003 [...]

I was taking a stroll around http://www.whelanslive.com/lis tings/ when I notice this: Isotope presents ALPHASTATES + DC Experiment ALPHASTATES VERY LAST GIG!! Thursday 18 February Major disappointment this is! Human Nature was one of my favourite albums from last year and their debut was one of the best albums of the decade. Sad News! Kiss Me is one of my favourite songs ever! I love this video!

Never mind that shoddy work Christmas Party, the real parties are ones with live bands. Luckily enough, the 2UIBestow Christmas Party features three such artists. There's Alphastates, Junah and Declan De Barra. All worthy of your attention. What's better is the fact that it's free in. It's on this Friday at 9 p.m. in Boyle's in Slane and is sure to be jampacked. A great night will be had by all. More info: http://2uibestow.blogspot.com/ 2009/12/2uibestow-christmas-pa rty.html

Way back in '97 and '98 there was an Irish band called Junkster who made really good electro indie music not a million miles from the current music of Alphastates. They released one good 'self-titled' album, two good singles and opened Slane in 1998 for the likes of The Verve, Robbie Williams and James. Strange that with the limelight shining on them for those two years that there is very little online about the band! Here's what I found; Junkster were Deirdre O'Neill [Vocals], Aidan Lane [Guitar], Mick Creedon [Guitar], Graham Darcy [Bass Guitar] and Donal [...]

Some great news from the Alphastates camp: "Long time since we've last spoke ....eventful times Its been a while since we've last spoke...life has been very eventful ...Catherine and her Brian have landed themselves with a stunning new baby girl called Rachel Hannah Barnes. She got lungs stronger than Janis...They're all loved up in their bubble of bliss. Gerry been down and busy on documentary and film soundtracks. Graham Gilligan has sadly departed the alphastates camp for the sunny shores of Barcelona. He wants a tan badly. We will indeed miss him. Stevie Kavanagh has [...]

Following the example of the main two Music blogs based in Ireland here and here I've decided to summarise 2009 with an mp3 mixtape. A big thanks to everyone visiting my little page and for the few comments I been getting. The hit counter seems to be increasing and the comments justify the pleasurable effort I put into the blog so again a big thanks for them! Just a little reminder that I won't be posting anything on this blog until Sunday 12th July. If you can make it to Boyles [...]
