"Alright, this is the big one. This is the big one. All eyes on you. All eyes on you. All eyes on you tonight, Tom. All eyes. All eyes on you. All eyes on you. All eyes on you. Let's do this! Let's just do it! That's enough!" -- Tom, gearing up for his latest battle v. everyone "What? February? Whatever . You know how I am with that stuff -- I just go where I'm told." -- Tom, willing to accept [...]

I happen to know that a certain Rock Sellout contributor/world renowned DJ is turning 30 today… HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SEAN! *throws confetti* Now everybody proclaim your worship for Mr. Sleazy in the comments (or I'll kick your ass!). *throws more confetti* MP3: Altered Images - "Happy Birthday" - Cecilia

So after nearly a week of no posts you're probably wondering what's up at Bag Of Songs, I no internet access to update during the week so I'll kind of summarize with some photos and a little accompanying mini mix for you today. The beginning of the week started off having to get upo at 4:00 AM in lovely freezing 10 degree weather to board a 7:00 AM flight to Memphis for a work trip. Arrived right on time and spent the morning seeing a bit of Memphis and then checked into my hotel to await the arrival of my [...]
This one's a smidge on the twee side, but might be just the thing to get your juices flowing this Veteran's Day. There's some songs about drugs, some songs about celebrities, at least one song (track 16) by a band that I can't find any information about whatsoever, and, at about the halfway mark, a former president talking. Try not to let your client get distracted at that particular moment. (more...)
Most people are either back to work or school and vacation time is not on the horizon. While you're busy taking care of business, remember what Twin Peaks' Agent Cooper said - "Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee." Though you might be tied up with work or study, today's gift is make sure to enjoy yourself, even if it's just for a [...]
The weird shit that you can find on soundtracks to obscure movies never ceases to amaze me. Most recently I found the soundtrack to Party Party , a forgotten 80s teen flick about (surprise) a party. I can find absolutely no information about it online so if anyone knows anything about it please comment. It certainly had a decent soundtrack though, with some odd ska-tinged covers of classic tunes, and some appearances by some very noteworthy 80s artists that you might not expect. Time for a track-by-track rundown. Elvis Costello - [...]
Today I turn the ripe old age of 43. Last night I got my drink on at my wife's nephew's wedding reception. They had an open bar and I enjoyed a few mojitos. Thankfully I have no headache, but everything is kind of fuzzy. The birthday has been a good one, starting with sleeping in until almost 10:00, followed by brunch at 20•21 with the wife, then home to lovely gifts and prizes, including a stack
Was it a fact or a myth that the quality of sound on a picture disc was poorer than that on a normal vinyl record? I genuinely don't know... I picked up a copy of a favourite old picture disc on e-bay a month or so back - the double A side of Asylums In Jerusalem/Jacques Derrida by Scritti Politti that came out back in 1982. That's a picture of the picture disc that I've thrown on, and you'll
Readers of old will know that I've given regular plugs to a fabulous website call Jock'n'Roll. Basically, it's two blokes - The Cat & Dave - who are trying to establish, once and for all, the most popular singles ever recorded by Scottish singers and bands. They're doing this by asking everyone to submit a list of their personal Top 10, and the chart is compiled on the basis of the votes cast.

I stumbled across Altered Images about a month ago, and posted it in my own blog, but who knows who's reading that, so I've decided to send it over here in addition. Altered Images began in the early 1980s and had the support of John Peel and Siouxsie & The Banshees. They had a few hits and then disappeared like just about every other New Wave band, but they left behind some pretty great stuff anyway. The only thing is, they don't really look as cool as they sound... Altered Images - [...]
The Now Time Delegation "Nothing But a Heartache" (The Flirtations cover) I had never heard the original version of this song until the fabulous Rhino box set One Kiss Can Lead to Another: Girl Group Sounds Lost and Found came out last year. And though it's difficult to pick a favorite from a collection so chock-full of gems, this song was (and is) defintitely my No. 1. Similarly, until I'd heard the original last year and went on an immediate hunt for any band who [...]

Sixteen Candles is another one of those classic 80s movies that practically everyone in my generation has seen a million times and can quote endlessly. It was the film that basically kicked off Molly Ringwald 's career and energized the teen comedy trend. It's possibly my favorite John Hughes film from that era. Even after seeing it so many times, it never gets old. Sixteen Candles tells the story of Samantha, who is celebrating her sixteenth birthday. The problem? Her family has completely forgotten about it, mostly due to [...]
Oh no he didn't... Oh yes I did. In 1982 I was 12 years old and was in my grandparents' car on the way back up to see family in Ottawa, Canada. (I am the only yank in the family) We were driving through Toronto and, out of boredom, I began twisting the radio dials in search of a music station. I remember clearly catching the end of this song as we pulled into a McDonald's for
Comics blogger (and more recently, comics writer) par extraordinaire Kevin Church is celebrating his birthday today, so I thought I’d offer him a handful of musical birthday offerings. It begs the question: What do you get the mean, Silver Age Superman-obsessed drunk who thinks the sun rises and sets by the Pet Shop Boys’ back catalog? Altered Images â€" Happy Birthday (from Happy Birthday,

Sorry about the lack of posts since the 4th of July. I've been entirely unmotivated to do anything besides work, watch t.v. and sleep the past couple of days. Your Friday theme mix hast turned into a Saturday theme mix, but it's here nonetheless. I'm sure you kids are going to scroll through your collections and find a whole bunch more songs about emotions, so list 'em if you want to. Rilo Kiley - Emotional Poe - Angry [...]
