After releasing the critically acclaimed Welcome To Condale late last year, Summer Camp are already back with a new EP, Always . I'm loving the vibe on the first single, "Life". It starts off as a seductive piano led number than transform into a nu-disco dance affair, that showcases how incredible Elizabeth Sankey's vocals are. In other words, the most house party ready Summer Camp song yet. This definitely would of not of fit in the Condale aesthetic, so I'm glad the band are trying to explore new sounds. The EP will be released [...]

Listen to Summer Camp 's new track "Life" below, from the EP "Always" . Summer Camp are returning with a new EP this summer, their first release since last year's debut album "Welcome To Condale" . New track "Life" is more scathingly electronic than some of its predecessors, which marks a slight change in direction from their bright and sunny debut album, and can be found on "Always" , their new EP released via Moshi Moshi on July 9th/10th. Professor Kliq - Lift (Always Dewaele) - Live Performance Filmed at Columbia College Chicago Music Department in an empty space. Performed on the Akai APC40 in Ableton Live, filmed by Nicholas Young of Original Machine. This was a lot of fun, really challenging to put together! I had taken the piece from arrangement view and had to clip it into consolidated sections and clips that contained various automations that I just couldn't do by hand... Perhaps I should make a video of that as well? Find the full album, "Curriculum Vitae", on SoundCloud, Jamendo, iTunes [...]

Another one for those April 21st wishlists , this: Polyvinyl Records are to release a split 7" for this year's Record Store Day conjoining the distorted talents of Jamie Stewart and Alex Zhang Hungtai. Always saw Xiu Xiu delve into a superbly profound disconcertion and Stewart here covers Erasure's glam-camp number of the same name to equally subversive effect. His vocals reek of a genuine desperation, the acerbic rhythmic clatter that clutters its backdrop gloriously accenting said lunacy to conjure an end product that's just as upsetting as Andy Bell's [...]

Xiu Xiu and Dirty Beaches are releasing a split 7" on Polyvinyl for this year's Record Store Day (April 21st). It's been over a decade now, and Jamie Stewart and his motley crew of collaborators are still churning out avant-garde jams that mix art rock with experimental synth pop and just about everything and anything else that you can think of. Xiu Xiu are a band that never shy away from pushing the envelope, which is the reason why a lot of people love them and a lot of people hate them; and, for probably even more, it's both. It is in this way that their latest release, Always, is so befitting. Equal parts calm and listenable, turbulent [...]

Written by Jamie Halliday ( Audio-Antihero Records ) August 2011. Benjamin Shaw and I were desperate men. We had an album we both liked and we knew that neither of us had a prayer of adequately promoting it. We paid, we paid BIG to the PRayola machine. Immediately bigger opportunities came our way. While I generally spent my weekends telling Mancunian students how much I liked their wordpress and that a review would be 'cool', we were getting our press release cut and pasted onto the walls some of the fancier [...]

This album is like two in one - one industrial and the other fun electronica.

Jamie Stewart's output is remarkably consistent, even if Xiu Xiu [ Twitter / Facebook ] have this habit of changing members and record labels like it's going out of style. It could be argued that, having released nine albums in ten years, he doesn't have the time to get too attached to any particular lineup or label, but as his collective's new home is on the rather excellent Bella Union, he's in good company: Midlake, Fleet Foxes, Lanterns on the Lake and plenty of others say 'Hi'. On Always , Stewart makes sure that melody comes first. [...]

The ever-capricious, openly extroverted Jamie Stewart would never be heard seeping through crumby speakers in your nearest cornershop coffee stop thus in certain respects latest long-player Always is, as one may accurately envisage, a record bristling with extreme time signatures and oft incongruous instrumentation. However throughout his first effort for Bella Union Stewart delves deeper into the genuinely disquieting disturbia that's long-since haunted his esoteric avant-garde experimentations, rooting out dark passions and deep-seated secrets as he worms, exhuming such stuff from its general unearthliness like legs and limbs reclaimed from cold and crumbled dirt. [...]
