They're from Brooklyn, their number is somewhat indeterminate yet it's fair to say they were formed at the end of 2007 by Will Roan & Simon O'Connor and they sound rather sprawling and musically ambitious; some would suggest psychedelic...Oh, and they're currently working on their debut album with Claudius Mittendorfer who has previously worked with the likes of Muse and Interpol. In the meanwhile the band is giving their debut EP Infinite Fucking Cross for FREE over at their website ! Go get it!! "Pump Your Brakes" | download [...]
by Bill Pearis DOWNLOAD: Patrick Bower - See Ya When We See Ya (MP3) DOWNLOAD: Amazing Baby - Head Dress (MP3) a version of Amazing Baby Wednesday (8/20) has so many good NYC show options it's criminal. Top of the list for me is probably Seattle's BOAT at Union Hall, who (as listed in last week's post ) played [...]

The Amazing Baby is an NYC band currently recording their debut album in the UK. The band's sound can draw obvious comparisons to Joy Division accolytes like Interpol, Editors, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Where Amazing Baby differs from those bands is with hints of middle Eastern influence (a la The Tea Party) and sludgey grooves (think Alice In Chains' "Grind"). You can currently download the band's Infinite Fucking Cross EP for free here: DOWNLOAD . [...]

This was the after-party to an all-day scavenger hunt hosted by music mag Death & Taxes magazine. Teams spent four hours running around New York finding stuff, some of which included various forms of alcohol. Before the bands was a two-hour free-booze-and-tacos BBQ, so needless to say the crowd was well-lubricated and some didn't make it to the headlining set of Amazing Baby. Me, I skipped the scavenger hunt and BBQ and showed up just in time for the bands. An early show (7:30 or so), especially for Union Pool, and easily the most on-time [...]

Brooklyn is burning up (sorry for the Jonas Brothers reference guys) these days with all sorts of psychedelic-leaning musical acts, all taking the sounds of the 60s and 70s even further over the Technicolor edge. Amazing Baby , the duo of Will Roan & Simon O'Connor, are one such act, mixing the wild and free with the freaked out and paranoid. Well, they sound like all of those things. This we're sure of. "Head Dress", off of this year's EP Infinite Fucking Cross , is a sprawled out on the floor electric guitar ramble, [...]

okay well maybe not quite , but this very dark and sexy track from local Brooklyn band Amazing Baby is KIND OF BLOWING MY MIND HERE. I've quite possibly listened to it 10-15 times already this morning. I also just read on another blog that their first show EVER apparently was back in uh... May of this year? And now they are playing shows at Bowery and MHOW with acts like Does It Offend You Yeah and A Place to Bury Strangers so... you know something is brewing here. Oh and did I mention [...]

MGMT war in diesem Jahr der kleinste gemeinsame Nenner alle Hippster. Weil sich ihr Album "Oracular Spectacular" im September jährt, wird es langsam Zeit für ein paar Nachfolger. (more...)
The doors opened late for Bloc Party's Wednesday night show at Webster Hall. As a person with a full time job this did not still well with me, nor did the following: the first band [ whose name I didn't get because their mic wasn't working] Amazing Baby was a waste of time, Does it Offend You, Yeah? took forever to set up and had technical difficulties, and Bloc Party didn't hit the stage until about 10PM. TLC had an amazing spot in front of the stage, but we were definitely anxious. [...]

Tonight here in Baltimore, The Recher Theatre has Matt Costa with Sera Cahoone. In DC, the Velvet Lounge has Bound Stems, Len Bias, Imperial China, and Seeing Eyeballs. The show of shows is in Philly and has been moved to the Starlight Ballroom (but is sold out)...and that is MGMT, Violens, and Amazing Baby. If you can't make that, The Khyber has An American Chinese, Mick Bassett & The Marthas, Mandi Perkins, and The Armchairs, The Trocadero has the lovely She & Him, and Cafe M has The Swims, The [...]

Another good show from one of Brooklyn's most promising new bands. This was Amazing Baby 's fourth show in their short existence -- but as I said about their live debut a month ago -- they seem to have it pretty much figured out. Heavy, glammy psychedelic rock with plenty of melody, by people who know how to play their instruments and hold an audience's attention. Singer Leah Carey was back with the band this time (she missed her band's first show!) and the chemistry between her and the band's other singer, William Roan [...]

So Future Sounds is fortunate that it has over 400 of the best scouts in the world helping filter music, but one source that never ceases to deliver amazing acts, one after another is SUGAR BEAR . Sugar Bear has the golden ears, and this time he turned me onto two bands that I've been playing more than anything over the last week and I want to share. BLONDE ACID CULT [...]
1, Amazing Baby This relatively new Brooklyn based band looks like ABBA raised by a pack of wolves. I really like this song "Head Dress" by them. Despite being somewhat new, I have read reviews that they are quite good live so hopefully as they start playing more shows I will have the opportunity to [...]

It pleases me greatly to go into a show mostly blind and come out a fan of every band on the bill. That never happens anymore. Maybe I'm just going to the wrong shows. I was there primarily to see Violens , the new band from some of the Lansing-Dreiden folks, though I'm not sure exactly which ones. Definitely singer/guitarist Jorge Elbrecht, and probably keyboardist Iddo Arad. Maybe more, but hard to say. L-D were an enigmatic bunch who didn't believe in album credits or band photos... or even playing in the [...]
It isn't even funny anymore. The number of good bands from Brooklyn is become ridiculous. Do they sell instruments in grocery stores? Are you forced to go to rehearsal instead of church on Sundays? Is their population around 2.5 million? I'm liking this song by Amazing Baby for a lot of the same reasons I fell in love with Yeasayer. This song seems to lack the huge sound of their other songs I've head (all 3), yet is just as easy to get lost in. The melody doesn't really deviate much once the song starts, yet [...]
