After releasing his self-titled EP in April, Slates is back with a brand-new remix of American Royalty's track "Matchstick." Part of their free remix EP that includes remixes by J. Philip, Light Year, Richnuss, and Stryker Matthews, Slates' signature blend of chillwave, dubstep, and electronic folk makes quite the impression even when packaged with all these talented artists. We're still recovering from SXSW (and we left early). The week long madness of music and drinking does get tiresome, but alongside good friends at Guns In The Sun, Hit City USA, and MFG, we presented an awesome showcase on Friday featuring some of our favorite artists around right now. It started with Harriet, the on the rise Los Angeles group powered by vocalist Alex Casnoff and the deserved hit "We Slept With All Mothers." My first experience with American Royalty was SnowGlobe 20112s third and final day. No need to rehash that experience here, but I've revisited them and found a hit in 'Levrolution.' They've got obvious electronic influence, but the lightly distorted blusey riff alludes to a rock infusion. Some simple harmonies with repeated lyrics on top rounds out this bouncing track. Collectively, we're bringing you some of our favorite music from the last two years.
