Amina Bryant got us from first listen. Not only because her new single sounds like one of Rihanna's best moments, but also because she has the voice and musical ear to back it up. We hope to hear from her a lot this year. Having recently leapt into the BBC 1Xtra Playlist, exciting new singer/songwriter Amina Bryant is set to release her self-penned debut single 'Jimmy' on 7th March 2011.Working with her long time producer WhiZz K!D, 'Jimmy' is an ode to Motown's Martha and the Vandellas 1967 hit 'Jimmy Mack'. An undoubtedly infectious pop delight, on 'Jimmy', Amina delivers a [...]

Click image to download full album Sounds like: Sigur Rós, Ólafur Arnalds, Jónsi "Amina - Rugla " What's so good? This music belongs in an early 20th century bourgeois toy store that only carries toys made of the finest oak. Remember when you were a kid and there was the toy store for the "smart kids"? I'm not talking your Noodle Kidoodles - I'm talking about the kind of toy store that was disguised as a library, the [...]
Person Pitch was a Stereofave , we're loving Strawberry Jam , and getting psyched for Panda Bear's solo show at Bowery tomorrow night ... so indulge us here. PTW points us to Shotmouth , who met with Noah Lennox in our local haunt Hi-Fi to discuss the sordid details of the Panda man's past. A few things discussed during their meeting: Noah's Education: Went to an "alternative-type, progressive-type" high school called the called the Kimberton Waldorf School in Baltimore. Later went to, and dropped out of, Boston [...]

One of the bands that I like most these days are the Icelandic quartet Amiina . Their recently released debut-album " Kurr " is highly recommended if you like beautiful, mostly instrumental music that may take an unexpected turn or use unusual instruments. The band's new label Ever records has made an interesting minisite/ecard where you can read about the band, listen to some of their songs, watch a 10 minute documentary video and download a free mp3 of the song "Rugla". You can also find links to where you can buy the album on the minisite, and my [...]

The room was dim as it always is, there was a collection of laptops, keyboards, a guitar, and an assortment of other instruments scattered across the stage and some overflowing onto the floor in front. A group of about thirty sat on the floor, with a number about double that size squeezed together up against the bar that boarders one of the walls. To the right of that you'd find tables filled with groups that averaged four with wine bottles and what was left from the dinner they had taken in just prior. It was silent. [...]

Enjoy! For those of you that don’t know, I am a student at UCLA. It seems like my life as an undergrad is a never-ending battle, something that I find no comfort in with the horror stories I hear of life after the final bell and my fancy square hat is thrown in the air. But ever since beginning my college curriculum I have found comfort in the music I am able to listen to while I am studying. Of

A week's worth of distractions & general aimlessness overtook the usual impulse to post; but here's a quick mix afforded by a perusal of the 3hive experimental & slowcore archives. If one download is worth checking out, give the Kingfisherg a listen, my current top choice from the bunch. Kingfisherg - Today I Spoke to a Girl [ Mp3 ] B.Fleischmann - Toru Okada [ Mp3 ] Oceanographer - The Beauty of [...]
