Het heet The House at Sea. Jean's Waving had ook zomaar op een Clientele-album kunnen staan. [...]

Amor de Días (“love for days”) is Alasdair MacLean (The Clientele) and Lupe Núñez-Fernández (Pipas), and they are out with their intoxicating new full-length, The House at Sea. This time they are joined by James Hornsey and Howard Monk on rhythm with producer Brian O’Shaughnessy (Primal Scream) at the helm. Like their debut, their twelve tracks alternate between the upbeat and slow-tempoed, with elements of indie pop, bossa nova rhythms, and 60's psychedelic folk, and flamenco inflected guitar; all the while remaining passionate and dreamy. Standout tracks include opener "Voice in the Rose", the title track, and "Viento del [...]

Amor De Dias: House At Sea - Lush, Spanish-styled acoustic guitars swell in my ears and envelope me, taking me to a place that I have never been. I can see myself sitting in a cafe, somewhere warm with a light breeze blowing through. Amor De Dias ’ album House at Sea has a great way of putting the listener in their world. The warm tones of Alasdair Maclean’s and Lupe Nuñez-Fernandez’s voices dig-in like sand between your toes. House at Sea is an eclectic [...]

A little more frenzy in the album's arrangements could have made 'The House at Sea' by Amor de Días unforgettable. Merge Records , 2013 6.1 / 10 It’s best to let the mystery of The House at Sea overcome you to really enjoy it. The [...]

2013 continues to bolt out of the gate with another solid week of new releases. With the long awaited followup to their well-received 2009 debut, Local Natives top our list of must-buys. Hummingbird finds the Silver Lake, Los Angeles, group pushing into new territories of song structure, challenging listeners while still enticing them the same rich harmonies that made them an initial success. Another anticipated followup out this week is the seventh studio album by Canadian twins Tegan & Sara , whose Heartthrob is an well-produced, achingly romantic collection of indie pop. [...]

Alfredo Arias Horas When Amor de Días released their first album Street Of The Love Of Days in Spring of 2011, they weren't presenting themselves as successors to either The Clientele or Pipas , but given that neither of those outfits have released anything new since Alasdair MacLean and Lupe Núñez-Fern&aacut e;ndez turned their attentions to it, it's not unreasonable to expect that the new project provide at least some of the elegant pop fix that fans of either outfit would have demanded from them otherwise. [...]

It's hard to feel sad about British band The Clientele's uncertain future and potentially permanent hiatus while Amor de Días glows brightly. With songwriting partner Lupe Núñez-Fernández (also of the duo Pipas), Clientele frontman Alasdair MacLean continues to carry the torch of happy-sad songs of brightly performed melodies and melancholic lyrics. Finished in a fraction of the time it took to record their debut, The House at Sea , due January 29 on Merge, features a much more confident blend of woozy Spanish guitar, jazzy bossa nova rhythms and the pair's seductively breathless vocals. At moments, the [...]

by Andrew Sacher DOWNLOAD: Amor de Dias - "Jean's Waving" (MP3) Amor de Dias , the duo of Alasdair MacLean of The Clientele and vocalist Lupe Núñez-Fernández of Pipas, surfaced in 2011 with the Merge release, Street of the Love of Days , a charming album which married touches of bossa nova and flamenco with indie pop. On January 29, the [...]

Christopher Dadey Considering that touring North American is an expensive proposition for a British artist, it's pretty commendable that for her first two albums - her 2007 debut Made Of Bricks and 20102s My Best Friend Is You - Kate Nash managed to not only come through town twice, but first play a relatively intimate club show for her devoted fanbase before stepping up to a bigger room the second time around (Mod Club then Phoenix, both times). Considering that she no [...]

[author-name] The end of the year is always the time when us music fans reflect back on the year that was. But, greedy listeners that we are, we can’t help but to look forward to promised records on the horizon from some of our favorite artists. And while there are always the pipe dreams that might finally come to pass (new releases from My Bloody Valentine and the Avalanches , for example), I prefer to stick with more reliable options. Here are my Top 10 [...]
For The Key’s year-in-review, we asked our trusted sources – our writers and photographers, XPN’s on-air staff, fellow bloggers in the Philly scene and even a few musicians – to send us their Top Five Whatevers. Could be the traditional music route – albums, songs, concerts of the year – or it could be only ... Continue reading

Discover: Beliefs The Toronto-based trio, Beliefs , made a big splash late last week with the video for "Catch My Breath" a single b/w "Violets." The pair of songs are an interesting contrast with "Catch My Breath" sounding like some descendant of the Jesus and Mary Chain, while the b-side tones down the drone and loses itself in some shoegaze-induced reverie. The single was released on December 11 via No Pain In Pop/Manimal/Hand Drawn Dracula. Their self-titled debut is out 5 March 2013. [...]

Temporary Residence Not many record producers manage to achieve the sort of household name status as the artists they work with, but Nigel Godrich has done as well as anyone in the recent memory. Partly because of his work on high-profile records from the likes of Beck, Pavement, and Paul McCartney, but mainly because he's the unofficial sixth member of Radiohead , having been behind the boards for every one of their records from OK Computer onwards. He's been getting out of the studio and onto the stage of late, though. [...]

The Love of Days you say? Well, I'll say that for today, and probably for a few more that follow, this new track from Amor de Dias is absolutely winning my heart. You can give me anything with the voice of Alisdair MacLean, and I'm probably going to fawn over it. My impression is that Alisdair and his collaborator, Lupe, have finally hit their stride. The backing vocals jumping in and out are so affecting that I'd have a difficult time ever dismissing this track. I'm sure the new record, House [...]
