Two thousand and eleven has been an odd year for me, and I think for music as well. Between acclimating to a completely different environment and being fully immersed in the music world, I foresaw a serious evolution and transformation of my music tastes prior to compiling my "Best of" lists. After the completion of said lists, it seems that not much has actually changed - not only in the last year, but the last five, when observing which names were included. To be honest, it was quite difficult to decide on 10 full albums I really [...]
Amor de Días - Season of Light from Merge Records on Vimeo . The Clientele/Amor de Dias frontman Alasdair MacLean directed this one himself, a much-needed reminder that dude was evoking sepia tones and faded photographs while your favorite chillwave band was taking high school bong hits. The song, as expected, is quietly lovely. ( Street of the Love of Days is out now on Merge )
The duo of Alasdair MacLean of The Clientele and Lupe Núñez-Fernández of Pipas, collectively known as Amor de Días, have released a second video for the song "Season of Light" off their debut album, Street of the Love of Days . Check it out after the jump. Read more » http://rpc.blogcatalog.com/ http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ ping

Frank Yang Some have been lumping Portishead's return to recording and touring, starting with the release of 20072s Third , in with the spate of '90s band reunions and reconciliations which the more cynical would assume be intended to cash in on the nostalgia of today's 30-somethings. This is basically wrong. Yes, the band were last properly active in the late '90s, their second self-titled album coming out in Fall 1997, but what separates Portishead from the pack are that Third was written and recorded [...]

Amore De Dias Today's free MP3 is lo-fi chamberpop from London's Amor de Días and the track Bunhill Fields . The band consist of Alasdair MacLean of the Clientele and Lupe Núñez-Fernández of Pipas. They headline the church stage at IndieTracks on Saturday this weekend but have a couple of other dates too: 26 August with Louis Philippe, Tapestry @The Constitution, St Pancras Way, London NW1 2 September, [...]

Normally it aint over til the fat lady sings, but in this case some murmurous, mutterous, jazz-edged warbling from Amor de Días about legendary graveyard Bunhill Fields is enough to have me hurriedly penning a will. [There is a video that cannot be displayed in this feed. Visit the blog entry to see the video.] Amor de Días - Bunhill Fields ( mp3 )

Inez van Lambsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin Relatively quiet since 20072s Volta , Bjork is finally back with a new album... I think. To be honest, the press releases around her new project Biophilia haven't exactly been designed for quick parsing, and that's because the album component of Biophilia is just that - a component. There will be a conventional album, presumably available in CD and LP formats, that is due out this Fall - September 27 is the presumed but unofficial release date. [...]

Frank Yang If it were possible to discuss Beady Eye and their debut album Different Gear, Still Speeding based strictly on their musical merits and not their backstory, then it would be a fairly short conversation: alright-enough Brit-rock, hardly re-inventing the wheel. But taking into account that the band comprises 4/5 of the final lineup of Oasis , less chief songwriter Noel Gallagher, extra scrutiny is unavoidable. Which is unfortunate since despite the band's - well, Liam Gallagher's - insistence that they're going to be the [...]

Alasdair MacLean of The Clientele has a new project, Amor de Días and boy is it good! Like his other band, this one borders on bossa nova. But rather than pop, MacLean instead flirts with folk. "Wild Winter Trees" is soft and beautiful with a lightly strummed guitar and calming vocals. Similarly, the video is simple, showing grainy footage a family playing in the fields. Surprisingly, the other half of this duo is also a known figure. At least, if you're a [...]

It's June, so it must mean it's time for the obligatory Indietracks compilation album. Sadly this year it won't be released on CD in an attempt to reduce costs, meaning you'll have to burn your own discs for the long drive up. On the other hand, as it's a download only, you can pay whatever you like for it with all proceeds going to the lovely Midland Railway Centre . Every year they put up with us descending on them, so it's nice to be able to give them a little something back. [...]

I just caught D&N in San Diego, the last stop of the band's tour with Amor de Dias . Was bummed to learn that guitarist extraordinaire Michio Kurihara wasn't able to get into the country. D&N still managed to unfurl a lovely tapestry with the help of Bhob Rainey on soprano sax and Heather MacIntosh on cello. Amor de Dias's Alasdair MacLean and Lupe Nunez-Fernandez filled out a couple of songs. Kurihara's mood-enhancing strokes provide some of the peaks on False Beats and True Hearts . His subtle embellishment of [...]
[ download ] [tweetmeme] Long before the term "twee" lost its subcultural cachet and Zooey Deschanel had her own sitcom on Fox, Lupe Núñez-Fernández was helping reshape the twee aesthetic as half of the shamefully overlooked indie-pop act Pipas . Alongside Londoner Mark Powell, the native Spaniard Fernández whipped up songs in fleeting bursts which were precious (though never cloyingly so). Pipas built a modest yet exceptionally ardent fan base by taking a relaxed approach to their performances-one I caught a decade ago was dappled with apologies for missed chords or botched lyrics-but [...]
► Buffalo Springfield are back at it again and they're playing The Wiltern this time around. ► Archers of Loaf and The Globes please '90s rock enthusiasts again by returning to the Troubadour for night two. ► Producer Greg Kurstin and singer Inara George take a break from their side projects (such as the Living Sisters for George) to play as L.A.'s beloved The Bird and the Bee again tonight. It isn't just any regular night at the Bootleg though. Tickets are for seats at a table and [...]

Amor de Días - Late Mornings from Merge Records on Vimeo . The amount of genres thrown into Amor de Días is staggeringly impossible to nail down. The new project from Alasdair MacLean of The Clientele and Lupe Núñez-Fernández of Pipas which will feature both artists handling Spanish guitars with backup a cellist. As the feature act for Damon & Naomi behind their brand new full-length album, Street of the Love of Days , Amor de Días is definitely an act to see on this magical tour. [...]
