I watched Gigantic for the first time tonight. It was an odd movie, for sure, but I was delighted to see the movie's last few seconds scored by Animal Collective's "Did You See The Words?" It was the perfect odd-ball song to close an odd-ball film. What was better yet was the music binge I went on right after the credits closed. These songs are what make up this twentieth episode of the pmaCAST. Hopefully you'll find the track list fitting of this milestone episode. pmaCAST #20: There's Something Living [...]

Frank Yang As is becoming something of a tradition for me, I once again spent Thanksgiving this year at a show rather than with family (we got together earlier in the weekend so stop judging me), though it was with a sort of extended family - labelmates in Loney Dear and Asobi Seksu (both on Polyvinyl ) and country(wo)men in Loney Dear and Anna Ternheim (all Swedes). Yeah, that's sort of a stretch but whatever. There'd been some vagueness about the precise order of the sets - the [...]

Following a previously announced Canadian adventure , Tegan & Sara will look to futher kick off the new year and support the release of their forthcoming studio album , Sainthood , with a rather lengthy U.S. tour. The trek kicks off beginning February 12th in Northampton, MA and currently spans over two months before wrapping up on April 6th in Salt Lake City, UT. We say currently because with dates scheduled basically everywhere expect the Los Angeles area, it looks like an appearance at a little event that takes place [...]

Filed under: News , Book Club Between their intimate live shows and personal lyrics, Tegan and Sara have never held much back. Now, the Quin twins are offering an even more in-depth look into their lives with 'On, In, At,' a three-book set available to fans who pre-order their new album, 'Sainthood.' Each of the books includes writing from the sisters and photographs from three different time periods. 'On' gives a look into "the perspective that we as a band see, even from on stage," according to a [...]
With their Sainthood looming , Tegan & Sara have embarked on a serious publicity push. First and foremost, the twin duo has mapped out a month long Canadian tour - Yes, Canada, you're getting the love this time! - to begin at the start of the New Year. The trek, which will follow a pair of previously reported warm up shows in Los Angeles and New York, a November 2nd appearance on Conan O'Brien, and a European tour with CoS favorite Astronautalis , will featuring the supporting talents of An Horse . I seriously think public transport , especially at peak hours, brings out the worst in people. For me, those murderous instincts tend to take over. The sweaty arms brushing against mine, or people charging past me to make sure they get that empty seat they're eyeing from a distance, everyone just leaning against you, people staring at you unnecessarily- it really irks me. Also doesn't help when a couple is engaging in some PDA, releasing endorphins-being happy and what not, and I'm here barely breathing. It scares me though that I sometimes have [...]

Still looking to Swoon you, me, and everybody else in this fine world, Silversun PIckups have mapped out an extensive global trek for this fall. North American will get in on the fun first with two months worth of dates beginning September 14th in Cincinnati. Manchester Orchestra and Cafe the Elephant will split the duties of opener. Then, come mid-November, it's on to Europe where the band will split its time between headlining and opening for Placebo . Find a complete list of the confirmed [...]

Frank Yang It's funny that though I offered readers an introduction to The Wooden Sky just last month , watching them play an in-store at Sonic Boom on Monday night, the eve of release for their new album If I Don’t Come Home You’ll Know I’m Gone , it felt like I was the one being introduced to them for the first time. Previously, I'd regarded them as very good with moments of great roots-rock band - terrific at what they did but unlikely to turn anyone's world upside down. [...]

It has been forever and a day since the last SIx Pack. One might think a re-naming would be in order after such a long absence. To this I can only reply, "Hella No!" Today's Six Pack features six (6) different artists who have kindly invited us to partake in their musical genius (by sending out an email informing of said genius). I'm all for having great music brought straight to me, so without further adieu, six of the greatest from the inbox: The Rockwells - Microkorg [...]

>> More photos on Flickr An Horse @ Kung Fu Necktie, Philadelphia (6/16/09) An Horse is a grammatically incorrectly named duo from Brisbane Australia whose indie pop aesthetic fits somewhere between Tegan and Sara and Death Cab for Cutie... and, coincidentally, An Horse got their big break opening up for both bands on separate tours. Their sound is characterized by girl/boy harmonies, fuzzed out guitars, power-pop hooks, and clever & emotional lyrics. I wasn't very familiar with their music prior to the show, but [...]

Beggars Since I went to the trouble last week of making my generally meaningless predictions for the 2009 Mercury Prize nominees, it only makes sense that I take a look at the actual shortlist - announced this morning - and compare. And the first thing that I find is that the UK's bookies, who ostensibly do this sort of thing for living, don't have any more clue than I do. While only one of my picks made the actual list - and really the only one I expeted to - neither of [...]
An Horse began in the back of a Brisbane, Australia, record shop in 2007. The pop/punk duo of Kate Cooper and Damon Cox quickly managed to score a tour with Tegan And Sara even before the release of An Horse's debut album, Rearrange Beds (Mom & Pop). Cooper and Cox are fully aware that their band [...]
