Tennessee is a long way from England, both culturally and geographically, but there's no mistaking the British influence in And the Relatives ' "Hammer Down." It's got brittle guitar strums, a fuzzy bassline and some distinctly English-sounding vocal inflections. There's also an absolutely fantastic instrumental break, punctuated by a jagged guitar solo and some 8-bit-sounding keyboard leads. Nashville has never sounded quite so much like Manchester. Never got a chance to write about And The Relatives last year when their album Green Machinery dropped from Theory 8 (Caitlin Rose, De Novo Dahl) but here's a vid from the track "Siamese." Some nice power-pop with classic images to boot, similar to The Love Language on a slow-mo banana peel slip or The Walkmen creating cucumber sculptures. But really not too shabby, so you should like it like it.

And The Relatives are a trio out of Nashville who recently released their first full length album last November on Theory 8 Records . The band have previously released two EPs, Animals and Below and Above which can be streamed on their respective bandcamp pages. The entire album is enjoyable indie pop music with "Hammer Down" being a good example. Hammer Down
