As I may have mentioned before, I'm a beer freak. I applied to become the new beer columnist at Link Magazine , a daily culture mag owned and operated by the local newspaper The Virginian-Pilot and was chosen as one of 3 finalists. I got to meet with the editor and current columnist (who is leaving for an amazing position at Sierra Nevada) yesterday, which I thought went really well. Regardless, I had a blast writing the two entry columns on some of my favorite beers and I thought it'd be a shame if they never saw [...]
I've been busy the last couple days settling into my new digs and finally completing The Big Move from Edmonton to Vancouver. The past few months I've been living out of a suitcase in my friends' spare room, but now have my own sweet suite. My folks are also visiting right now, so don't expect to hear much more from me until next week. A couple big shows announced recently for late in the summer here in Vancouver, both at Stanley Park. August 31 - September [...]

First off, check out that photoshop job! You wouldn't even be able to tell it wasn't real if not for my spotty clone stamp job around the wings. Oh, and the fact that there's a 30 foot pelican conducting from behind the orchestra. But hey, that's the extent of my photoshop skillz. Anyway. As I mentioned before, for Christmas I decided to make my aunt a bunch of mix CDs with all kinds of themes. I ended up with the following: happy, sad, sleep, garden, around the house, orchestra, and love. As [...]
I had so much fun making my Favorite Live Shows of 2006 list that I decided to do it again this year. I've seen more amazing live shows this year than I ever have before, but it was these 15 that stood out. Make to sure to follow the read more… link to see the whole list, and visit Pictures For Kids Who Can't Read Good to check out all my concert pictures from this year. If you're looking for the full reviews check the left sidebar under "Live Freak Gasoline Fight Accidents". [...]

Last week I briefly thought about making a Halloween mini-mix, but quickly realized that everyone would be doing that, and between seeing The Whigs, seeing Menomena (twice!) and trying to sleep a little I just didn't have the time and energy to come up with something clever enough to be different. While thinking about it though, I did briefly dig out a tune from the second album by Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire - Oh! The Grandeur . "Beware" is [...]
Ah, Mr. Toad enjoys yet another supercilious snigger at the stupid from his entirely imaginary ivory tower. There's a survey on Forbes.com about the American Dream and what it means today (scroll to the bottom of this page to read it). I have two favourite quotes from the few that I idly flicked through, firstly [...]

Para que puedas dar la chapa en la oficina o en casa con la excusa de que es San Valentín y estás enamorad* de un avestruz. Leonard Nimoy & William Shatner - I'd love making love to you (¿se lo dirían el uno al otro?) Erroll Garner - The man i love Andrew Bird - Richmond Woman Roger Miller - My uncle used to love me but she died (genial!) [...]
Eskju Divine "Hold On" dir. by Filmtecknarna The animation is plastered mostly with dull browns and blacks, with the sky only occasionally flashing a hint of blue hope. What ensues is a complicated array of computer generated explosions of man-made creation - from bridges over water to railroads across countryside. Yet even as these buildings tower around the abode of the natural world, the black birds persist on, flying higher and higher to escape the influence of the ever-present invisible man. The band sounds almost like early Coldplay but [...]
It recently came to my attention that my friend Holly, as in one of my main music buddies here at school, and who is in Europe at the moment, had never heard Andrew Bird's Mysterious Production of Eggs . "I should've gotten this from you a long time ago," she says to me. "Uh, yeah. How did that one slip through the cracks?" I responded. After that conversation, I began listening to Andrew Bird obsessively like I usually do once someone brings him up again. From there I thought, [...]

Greg Brown ~ read my review of his latest album Butterfly Boucher ~ Another White Dash (easily one of the greatest songs about driving) David Bowie ~ Heroes (easily my favorite Bowie song) Andrew Bird ~ Candy Shop (easily one of Bird’s best early work that sounds nothing like his later work) Black Sheep ~ The Choice Is Yours (easily from The Commercial Music [...]
I told my internet people here in Seattle to turn it off August 1st. While I'm still prepared to wake up tomorrow without internet, I'm keeping in mind I told them to turn my cable off July 1st and they didn't get around to it until July 10th or so. For now I'll post this as my farewell post until I get back home, with a post from an internet cafe every now and then. Death From Above 1979 - [...]
