While still a few months off, New Jersey kids Real Estate give us something to look forward to this fall with the release of their new album, Days , in October. The band spent the early part of this year recording , and has made the leap to Domino for the follow-up to their self-titled Woodsist album from 2009. Just this week, the band wrapped up a monthlong summer tour across the US (& Canada), along with Dent May. During the District leg of the tour, the band stopped through the Red [...]

Tristan of Guilty Ghosts sent us these answers to our questions in this next installment of the q and also a series. q: What is the last song you (really) heard? a: Last Night at the Jetty by Panda Bear . It's amazing to me that an artist can be equal parts experimental and joyful in the same breath. The whole album reveals just as much excitement as this song does. I almost didn't make this list. I mean, come on. It's New Year's Eve. No one cares anymore. Everyone's just getting psyched for Ariel Pink or Titus tonight (you should definitely go to one of those shows, by the way), and looking forward to the whole music cycle starting over again in 2011. I swear I started trying to make this list at least two weeks ago, but as I was getting closer and closer to posting it, I started dreading it more and more. I realized that I didn't listen to enough music this year. Seriously, I [...]

Welcome to The New York Rockmarket's end of the year list spectacular. This is when I talk about how lists are fun but ultimately meaningless, and apologize for not posting the last few days because I've been compiling my lists. This is also where I talk about favorites as opposed to best, like I did last year . All of those things still apply. I'm making two lists this year: Favorite Songs and Favorite Albums. I'm going to attempt to skew my albums list a bit more towards the critical, but this songs list is just straight-up about fun, beautiful, [...]

This New Years Eve Todd P. presents NJ bands Titus Andronicus , Real Estate , Andrew Cedermark , and Julian Lynch at Brooklyn's Ridgewood Masonic Temple. This show is all ages and will be $15. We hereby invite all of you to help us ring in the New Year with an indie rock blowout at the Ridgewood Masonic Temple in Brooklyn, NY with the greatest all-star cast of upper Central-Western Bergen County, New Jersey ever assembled. Besides ourselves, Titus Andronicus , we will be joined [...]

Have you ever had a belonging so precious, that you called it your baby? Sometimes I hear people doing so, especially with their personal projects, like plays or albums. They've put so much creativity and care into something that they've nurtured it into being. Even though those creations carry personality and life, they are still only recognized as objects or things. Guitarist Dustin Wong goes beyond calling his recent works his babies, and almost feels that the songs from his latest album, Infinite Love , take on the form of [...]

People, THIS is why I love the fucking internets. I spent the day at the workstead listening to Lohio . I located the Jude, picked him up, stopped off for cereal (also fondly known as dinner; Trix), and headed home. I blogged about Lohio. I discovered The Ampeater Review , stumbled upon a picture there in the top row, and thought, "Dude, Color of Clouds . Sweet. Wonder what they sound like? Can you really put just ONE color to a cloud? Let's just click this and listen real quick - ah, shit yes.". Then [...]

New Jersey native Andrew Cedermark is a former member of Titus Andronicus - he went to high school with those kids and played in the band before it blew up and got big. That fact gives you little to no indication as to the type of music Cedermark plays, though; in place of power punk riffs and aggressive edge, his music trades in post-rock crescendoes and nuanced melodies. Backed by a bassist and a drummer, and armed with a full quiver of distortion pedals, Cedermark made music large enough to fill the nearly empty cavern of Brooklyn Bowl at the [...]

It's time to listen to the tracks I have not posted recently. Here is the next NOT POSTED mix. These are just some of the songs that would get there own individual posts on here on GIMME TINNITUS, if I only had the time. This mix has some crazy excellent stuff. Listen. Downloadables: Riley (mp3) by The Corin Tucker Band Freak Out (mp3) by Tapes 'n Tapes ( source ) [...]

We Are Trees Going into 2009's CMJ Festival , Surfer Blood, The xx and Warpaint were poised to be the breakout acts. In 2010, the field is wide open with over 1200 bands seeking approval from NYC audiences. Still, the bands that should generate the most attention are Lord Huron, We Are Trees, Cloud Nothings, Lower Dens, Wild Nothing, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Circle Pit, and Yuck. Out of that group, I expect Lord Huron, We Are Trees, and Lower Dens to come away with the most accolades of the festival. [...]

My lovely pal Matt from my favorite Virginia garage pop label Funny / Not Funny Records has sent me a mail this morning to call my attention to his little imprint's brand new Fall 2010 Mix Tape , a collection of 13 unreleased tracks as well as songs from current and forthcoming F/NF releases, among the featured artists being ex- Titus Andronicus member Andrew Cedermark , Matt Leech himself with his beautifully distorted psychedelic pop, and the 60s infused jangling Young Sinclairs who we had on these pages earlier this [...]

I've been fairly eagerly awaiting this album ever since reviewing Cedermark's contribution to a split cassette released earlier this year. I was charmed by the fierce chaos he seemed to court with his recording, with the whole structure of the songs seemingly forever on the verge of stumbling and falling to pieces. This, to its slight detriment I suppose, isn't quite as rickety a contraption. The previous recordings felt like an old horse buggy driving far too fast, where the slightest wonky cobblestone might sense the whole thing cartwheeling. This, on the other hand, feels far more like [...]

I've been pretty down on music this week. I'm getting so tired of all the "hazy" "swirling" supposed pop numbers that sound like they're ripped from an 80s local cable commercial. You know what I'm talking about. Sure, some, a very small percent, are good, but most of it is crap! And it's what all the cool kids are writing about! I feel like I'm going crazy, and I'm the only one who can't hear why it's any good. I'm so sick and tired of blogs churning out posts about mediocre crap that I feel like giving up altogether. What's [...]

We tweeted and tumbled about it, and as you probably can figure out we are very excited for new Celebration recordings. You may recall that the band started releasing their recordings for free in a piecemeal fashion last year. Well, they have found a home with the blogger -run Friends Records who will be releasing the collected tunes in the form of Hello Paradise on vinyl sometime around the end of 2010. Here is the latest track from said album. Listen. Downloadable: Great Pyramid [...]

I don't know Titus Andronicus' music and I just recently got a notion of what Underwater Peoples is, but I do know that I can't stop playing this song. Maybe not usually what I would seek out, but something about the cacophony of this track gets me. It's what I want more of in rock music: less riffing, more noise (please). Andrew Cedermark- Moon Deluxe (off Moon Deluxe )

Andrew Cedermark (ex Titus Andronicus guitar player) has a new album out called Moon Deluxe. Here is the video to announce that release. I interviewed Cedermark back when LivingEars was at blogspot (RIP!) but unfortunately I lost the transcription and most everything else that was taken down along with the interview. I'm a big fan of this guy's music ( #40 !) and am happy he is putting out an album finally. Andrew Cedermark - Moon Deluxe Tweet

Andrew Cedermark: Will Not Complete There must be something in New Jersey's water. Between Underwater Peoples, Titus, and countless other indie upstarts, it's become a veritable powerhouse for really good music. Andrew Cedermark is the latest of the UP crew to step into the spotlight, and Moon Deluxe is just one more reason to have faith in the Garden State. Picking up where the boozy anthem of "Hard Livin'" left off, "Will Not Complete" rattles [...]
Pitchfork TV has debuted Andrew Cedermark 's new music video for his LP's title track " Moon Deluxe ". The album is available in both vinyl and CD formats and can be order here . Tracklisting and album artwork can be found after the fold. Cedermark has a couple announced local dates, both happen to be in Brooklyn during CMJ. All [...]
