Andrew Cedermark, the former Titus Andronicus guitarist and veteran of the home-recording limited-cassette-tape universe, is about to release his new album Home Life, and the songs we've heard from it are bigger, fuller, and prettier than anything he's done before. We already posted the luminous early track " Canis Major ," and now "At Home," another track from the album, turns out to be a quiet and reserved anthem, with resigned lyrics about lost childhood and a combination of surging guitar and honking harmonica that recalls prime Springsteen. Andrew Cedermark's 2010 full length Moon Deluxe is one of those almost criminally overlooked LPs that deserve far more hype than they ever received. Maybe that will change when Cedermark releases his follow up this year. His latest effort, Home Life , is described as being "about growing up only to find that you didn't have to, and the subsequent discovery that the process is irreversible. Other irreversible processes discussed in the album include falling in love; losing friends while not making friends; and realizing that one is mired in a place where one does not belong." The latest from Titus Andronicus-alum Andrew Cedermark, "Canis Major" combines the nostalgia-heavy "lazy suburban afternoon" rock of Cedermark's northern New Jersey contemporaries with the psych-pop buoyancy of Grizzly Bear. Cedermark may have the most emphatically "pop" aspirations of the Underwater Peoples collective (which counts Real Estate and Ducktails as members); "Canis Major" borrows from alt-country, guitar-obsessed British indie, and the style of lighthearted groove rock that saw its heyday as sitcom themes throughout the 90s. It seems like the right day for me to enjoy some relaxed tunes more in the singer songwriter genre as I ease my way into another weekend. This new song "Canis Major" from Andrew Cedermark fits in that vein while also packing a bit of a punch in his rhythm section. Also let's not forget that the guy has himself some nice pipes that can be subdued and full of emotion all at the same time. Well done sir. I hadnt heard of Andrew Cedermark's work before opening an email about his new single, Canis Major. Culled from his forthcoming sophomore album, Home Life , which is due out in the middle part of July through Underwater Peoples , the track is a rousing introduction to the artist. As it turns out, Cedermark is the former guitarist for Titus Andronicus, though if youd only heard this track, you might not be able to tell.
