There's a ton of great stuff coming up this Friday that we'd like to see (including Honey Locust 's EP release at The High Watt, The Jompson Brothers and Modoc at 12th & Porter and Andrew Combs at The Basement), but this is a must: Culture Cringe , a Murfreesboro media outlet that emulates Third Man Records in that it releases local artists' projects, including music and film, in really badass ways, is celebrating their first release at 3 Brothers in Murfreesboro. It's the film "Girls Night Out," which has already made [...]
A few months ago, I mentioned Nashville's Andrew Combs and his upcoming 73. Well all of that has come to fruition. His new EP, Big Bad Love, is available on Bandcamp for a couple of bucks, and well it is definitely worth the price of a cheap beer. Heck, the vinyl edition is only $7, that's the price of an expensive beer.. First cut off of the 73 is "Take it From Me," a twangy ballad that lets Andrew explore a more soulful side as he breaks up with you through this song. The weeping slide, [...]

Andrew Combs - Dark End of the Street I love music discovery, though I'm not a huge fan of the Pandoras of the world, music discovery through word of mouth is extremely powerful for me. I love getting recommendations from friends, musicians, readers (that's you) and while I was having a conversation with Jonny Corndawg last week, he told me about a Nashvillian (would it be better if it were Nashvillain?) by the name of Andrew Combs. Andrew's music jumped out at me from the get go. Loading up his EP on bandcamp [...]

While I was on hiatus I enlisted my colleague TruerSound to curate the monthly Feel Bad For You comp for our friends on AltCountryTab.ca . TruerSound in turn enlisted the help of RomeoSidVicious and his mad programming skillz to turn the comp completely digital, with it's own URL and other fancy crap. TruerSound also enlisted the musical opinions of other friends/bloggers/jokers/sociop aths to contribute to this fine project, to make it more diverse and shit. Friends, I present to you, the February Feel Bad For You comp, complete with it's own website, [...]

Nashville gets a bad rap and, for all intents and purposes, it's well earned. Sure Nashville is too blame for Big & Rich . But it's also ultimately to be thanked for Malcolm Holcombe and a whole host of other highly revered Americana artist. Ultimately, Nashville is a lot like the hub of any industry whereas the first 10 layers are gonna end up being homogenized and prebuilt for mass appeal while the real meat lies within the struggling supporting staff. Meet Andrew Combs. I've never been to Nashville but from what I [...]
