I have been pretty excited about this tour since it was announced. Andrew Jackson Jihad ! Laura Stevenson and the Cans ! Denver ! And last but not least, ROAR ! (By which this post is brought to you today.) This track makes me long for summer even more than the usual February blues. It's got that Brian Wilson magical quality that makes pop music great. The jangling keyboards and fuzzy guitar give it a unique twist. The arrangement of it all makes for [...]

This is our third year of doing end of the year round-ups at The Ruckus. It's been a challenge to dig through and re-listen to everything that's come out over an entire year of music, and we invariably leave out really great albums, so this time around we've asked a few of our favorite people to contribute their picks as well. This year, our favorite album comes from Frank Turner ( England Keep My Bones ) and because he's an awesome person, Frank gave us his pick to start our guest list. [...]

Local indie band ROAR just released a new music video that manages to be funny, heartwarming, and highly entertaining at the same time. It also does a damn good job of selling the band as a local act that you should pay attention to. "I Can't Handle Change" is the title track for the band's EP, that you can download right over here . After you watch this video, you should be primed and ready to come see the band open up for Andrew Jackson Jihad at Crescent Ballroom on December 17th. The [...]

I had the distinct pleasure of seeing Andrew Jackson Jihad support Frank Turner on two of their North American dates this year- both amazing, high energy shows from everyone involved that left me desperate to see more. It was great to see Andrew Jackson Jihad in action- the crowd was super involved and the band rocked it like they were going to steal the show. Several of my friends (and myself) walked away firm AJJ fans. Sean Bonett, supplier of guitar, vocals, and general awesomeness in the band, answered a few questions to [...]
Andrew Jackson Jihad doing a session performance with Nervous Energies. In this video, the duo is performing a track from is latest album, Knife Man. The track is "Fucc The Devil." Check my review of AJJ's latest album here . / via /
Phoenix, Arizona's Andrew Jackson Jihad started out as an acoustic duo, playing bluegrass, country, and Americana influenced by DIY punk. They've branched out on recent recordings to include a full band, even inspiring Dylan-at-Newport comparisons when they went electric on their last album, Can't Maintain .… [ Read more ] [ Subscribe to the comments on this story ]

Tiffiny and I are really fond of Frank Turner. We're also fond of Into It. Over It.'s Evan Weiss, and after the show at Orlando's The Social on Tuesday night, we are new fans of Andrew Jackson Jihad. If Tuesday's mayhem is anything to go by, Friday's show at Crowbar Live (brought to us by our friends at Brokenmold ) is going to be a massive party. This party is also guaranteed to sell out, so make sure to pick up your tickets in advance at The Hub , Daddy [...]

At only 26 years of age, Chicago-based punk-rock songwriter Evan Thomas Weiss has already made a lot of music. From recording with the likes of Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Start, The Progress, and Stay Ahead of the Weather to his 52 Weeks project (where he recorded a track a week for one whole year), Weiss' sonic output is that of a man much older than himself. Now, he's finally readying a proper solo outing with Into It. Over It. , a project where Weiss channels the likes of Chuck Regan and Colin Meloy into [...]
With an almost unmeasurable poetic bitterness, Andrew Jackson Jihad are as sharp as ever on their new album, Knife Man . As usual, the music here is about the lyrics. The chord progressions are familiar copies of folk songs and punk tunes. Hell, some of the songs even sound similar to tracks from the band's previous album. Still, the lyrics here throw me into fits of laughter and depression. These tracks make me swing back and forth like an emotional pendulum. That's the show of a great Andrew Jackson Jihad album. Well, to me, anyway. [...]

This week Phoenix's Andrew Jackson Jihad put out their fourth album, Knife Man . Get a better glimpse of this duo with a listen to "Hate, Rain On Me" . They are about to begin a six-week U.S./ Canada tour opening for Frank Turner. http://www.asianmanrecords.com / http://www.andrewjacksonjihad. com/

This week's Major Bands, Minor Labels has news on the Lana Del Rey controversy as of late, and I've also got a brand new Atlas Sound song for you to check out. All this and more in this week's column which you can find HERE . http://rpc.blogcatalog.com/
Andrew Jackson Jihad's latest Knife Man is brazen with biting lyrics but also carries a self-conscious tone.

This week may not be the powerhouse release of the season like last week. But you can't have those twice in the same season... it's just math. All that being said, there is a lot of great stuff out today. For example, local heroes Andrew Jackson Jihad have an album about knife men out so that is pretty cool. In addition to that wonderful (probably) album , as you can see below, there are a ton of other good ones too. Just take your time and look at all of them... with your ears. Then I want [...]

Andrew Jackson Jihad 's newest release Knife Man is social commentary at its finest, combining tragically honest lyrics with fast paced instrumentals, inviting listeners to dance and sing along to the beauty of destruction. Many competing sounds make up this album, including simple stripped down tracks like "Free Bird" (no, not the one you're thinking), and expanding to more full sounding songs such as "No One." Knife Man features something for everyone, with tracks resembling those of gloomy underground British rock groups and others more closely related to good 'ole country tunes [...]
For folk punk fans, Andrew Jackson Jihad probably needs no introduction. The Arizona duo has owned the scene ever since their 2005 debut Candy Cigarettes & Cap-Guns established them as a hard-working and talented band with a knack for catchy melodies, simple chord progressions, and lyrics that were simultaneously hilarious and harrowing. Well, six years and two full-length records later, the band hasn't changed much in those respects. Their new record Knife Man comes out on September 20th-September 6th for those who pre-ordered it-and features the same spirit that made earlier releases great, conveyed through a [...]

Frank Turner has announced dates for his upcoming fall tour with Andrew Jackson Jihad and Into It. Over It . The tour will make its way to Bowery Ballroom on September 21st
The best way to get a feel for a band is to hear them live. It's a great way to start a review, too; the presentation is a vivid description of the group's power onstage, a retelling of the moment you realized that driving all the way out to see the show was worth it. [...]

Today brings a buffet of choices. What should we pick? We don't want to get toooo much and make ourselves sleepy. Food/music comas are THE WORST right? I mean shit... there is just so much delicious stuff to pick from. If only there was a place that told us what to chose. To make it easier and less hard. I guess I will just try a little of everything until I make myself sick and get even more fat (typical). Andrew Jackson Jihad: Candy Cigarettes Capguns Issue Problems & Such [...]
