Fuck Buttons are finally back with a new album. Out 22nd of July in the UK (23rd for the US) the new record is titled Slow Focus and follows the brilliant 2009 release Tarot Sport; a wonderful building wall of distortion, pounding ... Continue reading
The artwork adorning More Light – the umpteenth full-length effort from perennial, if perpetually stewed British shape shifters Primal Scream – may depict ringleader Bobby Gillespie daydreaming among the flowers though make no mistake: this ain't no psyched-out Screamadelica rehash by any stretch of even the most pliable of imaginations. What it is, however, is a fully Loaded and thoroughly revitalising rock record the like of which they've not contrived to compose since, well, since the quasi-seminal XTRMNTR , really. Plucking snatched from a faraway Orient may reverberate around breathy hex-cum-orchestral [...]
Ever wondered what Telex would sound like if they were more Abuja than Antwerp? William Onyeabor's When The Going Is Smooth And Gold is a good indicator... As heard on Andrew Weatherall's latest 6 Mix

Let's be honest, Weatherall did the definitive remix of this track. I wouldn't bother but you don't turn down a Dunproofin recommendation lightly. Free download. What do you know but that this is an excellent remix from Germany's Christian Strobe. A lot more epic and massively big room than the Weatherall version. It shows how good the original was to withstand this level of remixing. This is aimed squarely at peak time punch-the-air moments at the indie disco. It's been out a while but go get the free download. FREE DOWNLOAD [...]

Escúchenlo a continuación.
THE ASPHODELLS is the partnership between two great producers/djs. ANDREW WEATHERALL and TIMOTHY J. FAIPLAY. A friendship that goes back to the time when TIMOTHY was with BATTANT in the latter part of 2000s and ANDREW helped out on production. Now, years later, both fount together in this collaboration project called THE ASPHODELLS. Their album The post The Asphodells - Ruled By Passion Destroyed By Lust appeared first on Nothing But Hope And Passion - NBHAP - Music Magazine & more .

As mentioned last week , The Asphodells new album - a Andrew Weatherall & Timothy Fairplay partnership - is now out & about. The mix by Weatherall below will give you an idea of what you're in for. For my money, Weatherall is the only producer/DJ out there today who, almost effortlessly, bridges the gap between the old(er) and the new, and puts it into a perspective that I'm willing to buy. Bonus points for the Human League inclusion. [...]

Two classics today from Future Sound of London, Andrew Weatherall and The Orb. Keiichi Suzuki gets a 1992 remix from The Orb at #16. This is a classic piece of ambient Satellite Serenade , which is probably best known from its appearance on Sasha & Digweed's Northern Exposure compilation. It features not only a David Attenborough sample but an intro including beats sampled from Tangerine Dream's Sudden Revelation from their 1987 album Canyon Dreams . This beautiful mix takes its own sweet time getting anywhere and has a watery meandering air. A classic bit of [...]

More Weatherall and some Elgar. There's another Weatherall remix coming in at #18, with his Intensity remix of Finitribe's 101 from 1991. The mix was on the B side of the original vinyl (it wasn't on the CD version) but is the best of the Weatherall remixes for this track. It's the piano line and the lazy dub that really take this to be " pleasures of the highest state ". And so to Elgar. Rob Dougan really and his 1995 classic Clubbed To Death. I loved [...]

A personal hero of mine, famed UK producer/DJ Andrew Weatherall has a new album out this week under the name of The Asphodells. The album is called Ruled By Passion Destroyed By Lust . The Asphodells is a partnership between Andrew Weatherall and Timothy J. Fairplay. Their friendship goes back to Tim’s time with Battant in the latter part of the 2000s with Andrew helping out on production. Musically the album’s yet [...]

Over half way through this 50, we have William Orbit and The Grid. At #20, William Orbit, a major force in early 90s progressive house with Guerilla Records . He's already appeared in Coming Down through his production for Madonna . But here he is in his own right, with his 1993 classic Water From A Vine Leaf , featuring Beth Orton on vocals - I hadn't realised before that they had been an item. This downtempo tune still manages to have a dance beat despite the enveloping water of the tune. In places [...]

The Asphodells, Andrew J. Weatherall and Timothy J. Fairplay, have announced the upcoming release of their new album. Entitled "Ruled by Passion, Destroyed by Lust," the album is set for release on February 12th by Rotters Golf Club. The album will be available as a CD, LP and download. Andrew Weatherall's extraordinary twenty-five year career in music has been characterised by a series of unique partnerships. Before even touching on his nineteen albums, thirty or so EPs and singles plus more than two hundred and fifty remixes we should hark back to the early days of acid house [...]

As memories of London 2012 fade, Sabres of Paradise and Lamb are on today's menu. At #32 is Sabres of Paradise with the beatless mix of Smokebelch from 1993. Most people favour the dance floor friendly (if not storming) mixes. But from the first itme I heard it, I've always preferred this mix, with its delicate chiming refrain and ache of the drawn out strings. And while we're here, you might as well have this dance floor remix of Smokebelch from Tone396 [...]

Fashion group Oki-Ni have done it again. Their canny ear for a producer at the top of their game is unparalleled. Andrew Weatherall 's mixtape for them a while back was phenomenal and Alexander Nut 's new 'WUTANGISFORTHECHILDREN' mix lives up to the reputation. Eglo Records boss and long-time Rinse FM host, Alexander Nut is renowned for his passion for hip-hop and exemplary tastes therein. Here we see him thumb through his collection of Wu-Tang Clan records, delivering classic after classic with absolutely [...]

The Black Dog and Andy Weatherall make an appearance, as do St Etienne. The latter are the surprise here, appearing in both the Coming Up and Coming Down lists. At #46, The Black Dog. This is a track from Sheffield's finest before they split into The Black Dog and Plaid. The track is Cost II which appeared in 1993 (the track also appears on the album Temple of Transparent Balls ). The track is a bit bleepy, as you'd expect, but is equally dreamy - with lush synth lines. [...]

Been such a long time since I had something from Weatherall that was new, rather than a classic. But here's a remix he's done for DJ Phil Keiran's new band project Le Carousel. The original is a bit of sixites pop with a dash of early Velvet Underground and a sprinkling of Spiritualised. This Weatherall remix is a bit more of a chugger. It wheezes and wheeshes at the start like something from Thomas The Tank Engine before getting into a robotic motorik stride with vocals that have a breathy Depeche Mode quality. I was pretty unmoved. Is [...]

This pair features quite possibly the longest track of Coming Up. At #16, Flowered Up and the mighty Weekender, which is almost 13 minutes long (more here ). Released in 1992, this is a tour de force that really needs to be seen in video form (all credit to Wiz for that) and is a reminder that drugs and music really did underpin so much of the late 80s and early part of the 90s in a weekend whirl. But there was a price to pay. " Make sure what you're doing makes you happy ." RIP [...]

Here are a pair for whom the choice was particularly difficult. At #18, Leftfield. Seems a bit wrong that such an influential 90s act (more here ) should come out this low down the listing but that's how it went. Could really have picked any number of tracks - from Not Forgotten to Release The Pressure to Phat Planet . But in the end, I've gone for Song of Life . Song of Life was released in 1992 on their own Hard Hands label. It was [...]
