It features a Andy Swan puppet made by Emily Jeffers . The puppet made it's debut at Canned Goods Drive/Music with Andy Swan at Raw Sugar Cafe on January 30, 2011 . Anyways check out this funny music video of Ocean Ranger .

The second night of Kelp 17 happened on May 6th at the Dom Polski. It was one of the exciting nights there. Playing were: The Acorn Andy Swan Recoilers Everyone was excited the Acorn's set. Why? They played mostly from the first album "The Pink Ghosts". I [...]

Ottawa's Kelp Records is turning 17 this year. It's becoming an yearly event for myself to see what Kelp Records has in store for their celebration in the music scene. This year's event coincides with CHUO 's Funding Drive. Here is blurb for this year's events ( taken from their site ). We're very excited to announce this year's KELP 17 lineup, happening May 5-7; lots of changes from the usual, and lots of reunion shows too. This year we're throwing [...]
![Andy Swan & Company @ Raw Sugar Cafe – March 10, 2011 [Photos]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3273270_lg.jpg)
Went to this show at Raw Sugar Cafe on March 10, 2011. With the Genie Awards and a few shows that happened in Ottawa. Andy Swan was one of the openers that night with Racoon Bandit and The North Lakes (Both from PEI). Andy had a full band this time and he put on a nice set. Sure is a staple playing at Raw Sugar Cafe. Here are the photos. [...]

For those that have no plans on March 10th or can't get into the Genie Awards or Karkwa/Plants & Animals . Looking for something that is more of a East Coast indie folk rock flavor. Have no fear, come to Raw Sugar Cafe to see The North Lakes with Racoon Bandit and Ottawa's(?) own and favorite to the venue Andy Swan play live. [ Facebook event ] The band touring most of March in support of their latest [...]

Went to Raw Sugar Cafe on January 30th. It was a Canned Goods Drive and a EP release for Andy Swan 's Lou Reed. The event ran from 10am-6pm in which he performed the 9 minute EP in a karaoke style on every hour on the hour all day long. From the Facebook event : All cans collected will be donated to the Ottawa Food Bank. To spice up the scenario, each performance will be [...]

Kelp Records held a great showcase of great Ottawa acts at the Dom Polski on November 20, 2010. I only managed to see three acts. They were: Mike Essoudry's Mash Potato Masher The Flaps vs The Empiricals Andy Swan [...]

Totally adore this sweater. It was a lovely Sunday afternoon at Raw Sugar Cafe . It happened to be a book launch for CBC Radio 3 personality Grant Lawrence . The book is called Adventures in Solitude (title from The New Pornographers's Challengers). There was a visual presentation of photos taken at Desolation Sound. Grant read three different parts of the book. There was a short video of the area too. Andy Swan did a special live [...]

With alot of various shows that happened in Ottawa on October 16th. One being OCFF which I went on Friday night . Going to be silly to say this that Octoberman seems to tour during October. I decided to go to this show at Raw Sugar Cafe . Octoberman Winchester Warm Andy Swan (Didn't filmed his set but mentioned people [...]
Here is part 2 of who I or you should check out at NXNE in Toronto. So this will be Thursday night's event. It is going to be busy insane Thursday at NXNE. A hard decision to choose on who to see badly. Let's check out who will be playing. Found out that from Thursday to Sunday there is going to be a " Live in Bellwoods " picnic series at Trinity Bellwoods Park. It is present by The Musebox and Humble Empire. [...]

It was a busy Saturday for Kelp 16 . One was the yearly tradition at the Carleton Tavern. This is my third year attending it. What I love about the day show is not because of the music. Its the delicious pull pork sandwiches they make every year. It was a nice day show of music and playing there were Jenny Omnichord , The Secret Loves , Andy Swan , Flecton Big Sky and The Flaps . Somehow I had the energy to attend this event. [...]

Kelp Records is 16 years old. If only Think About Life was on Kelp, then they would be singing "Sweet Sixteen" for them. For those out of the loop. Kelp Records is a Ottawa based music label and its home to various artist like Jim Bryson , Andrew Vincent , Chris Page , The Acorn (who still calls Kelp home). Its becoming an annual tradition celebrating the label's achievement and to have fun with the music. This the second year now that the shows will be taking [...]

Well, we just got dumped on here for the first time this winter. Now everything has a gorgeous layer of Christmas over it, although the efforts of the gentleman across the road to clear his stoop for the 6th time would probably phrase it less favourably, more explicitly. Nonetheless, all that one really wants to do on such a day is grab some [...]

HPX '08 has drawn a copious amount of talent . I mean, if you had told me acts like The Inbreds, Retribution Gospel Choir, Josh Ritter and the GZA would be in town and I'd still be undecided as to whether or not I'd be going to see them, well I would have been shocked. In all honesty, with all the bands and all the venues, it's hard to go wrong, but to help you undecideds Shane and I are going to get all mavericky, ruffle some feathers, pay attention to Main Street, not Wall Street [...]

I'm jealous of quite a few people. My friend Luther , for instance, is a talented multi-instrumentalist who actually gets paid to play and write about music, my dad can build or understand just about anything and there's a guy down the street who owns his own toy store. Everywhere I look there's someone to envy and last week that list got a little longer with the birth of Jenny Omnichord 's baby boy, Otis. You see, on the day of his birth little baby Otis was greeted by an entire album of duets made in [...]

I was born and spent my formative years in Ottawa. Not the capital city of Canada but (rather) a small town in central Illinois at the confluence of the Illinois and Fox rivers. Even still, I feel a bit of a connection to Ottawa, Canada despite never having been there. That might have been an unnecessary and long-winded introduction, but I think it ties nicely into my review of Canadian singer-songwriter Andy Swan's latest album Andy Swan's Ottawa . It is a bit country and a bit folk; a little stomping and a lot subdued. [...]

Andy Swan - "The Truth About Thieves" . It's an unaccustomed jubilance in this amber-streaked folk song; Andy Swan finds the kind of melody he's not used to finding, the sort of love-story that doesn't usually come his way. "It seems impossible / or just improbable / that you waited your whole life / to love the likes of me." Like he can't get over the fact that he gets to use this jangle, this jangle , the happiest looking-glass kind. Like he can't get over the fact that he put the telescope to his eyes, pointed [...]
My file storage service has exceeded its monthly whatever, and most of the mp3s on this blog are going to be unavailable for the next few days. Boo friggin' hoo, right? So maybe I should start thinking about better file storage or something, since this blog has mysteriously become more popular than I ever expected (I think it's the recipes). But don't despair music addicts! Here's a sweet song from Ottawa's Andy Swan's 2007 album Andy Swan's Ottawa. mp3: " Can [...]

Andy Swan's Ottawa is one of the more charming flying-under-the-radar releases I've heard this year. I've always thought that my favorite albums and pieces of music sound like the soundtrack to a movie I'd rather imagine than see, and this is no exception. Swan adds charm to his already-sweet songwriting with lulling folk and old-time country instrumentation. I'd been falling (no, it was more like diving) in love with the (I hesitate to say) glorious "Can I pay you with sunshine?" (I think we were introduced by Quick, Before It Melts ) when Ottawa [...]

A few months ago, I gushed about Andy Swan's record - Ottawa . His simple, beautiful melodies should warm the heart of any Canadiana fan. Anyway, three times in the last two days a track from his free Sunshine EP came up on random. I think it might be my favorite track on either the record or the EP and is well worth passing along. The way he switches into his speaking voice when he says, "Sunday's are my personal time" gets me every time. Words of advice: [...]
