So Barry-Sean was in his parents attic over Christmas sorting some stuff out and discovered some old mixtapes that we used to listen to a lot - this was one from 1987 that B-S has modernised into a digital playlist on his iTunes. Even though it is nearly 25 years ago - there are some cracking tunes on there from many of the cream of that era's indie-crop, and perhaps some that haven't stood the test of time quite so well ( Fields of the Nephilim , two tracks from the Alarm ...). Who really plays drums on The Beatles' Anthology version of "Please Please Me"?
The best pop band in St. Louis has just added a second guitarist, perhaps in attempt to more embody the RFT Awards Best Rock Band category it was placed in this year. Man, awards are so confus... Continue reading "The Blind Eyes Adds A Fourth Member: Guitarist Andy White" >
Irish singer-songwriter (or in this instance, singer-songcoverer) Andy White's version of Alanis Morissette's Hand In My Pocket has been a favourite of mine for some years, but I'd never managed to find an excuse to stick it up on here before - until the realization struck that I don't actually need an excuse! So yes, Andy's version is utterly charming and guaranteed to warm the cockles of the heart of anyone who hears it - even the most hardened of Morissette haters. If you've not heard it before have a listen now, and I'm [...]

Stephen Fearing is well used to successful collaborations, he is arguably best known as a founder member of Blackie and The Rodeo Kings , as a solo artist he's a multiple Juno Award winner with a impressive back catalogue of eight albums under his belt, this time around the Vancouver born artist who was raised in Dublin before returning to Canada in 1981 to pursue his musical career has teamed up with a fellow musician from Northern Ireland, now resident in Melbourne, Andy White , equally prolific White has recorded and [...]
[FIRST, check out the Going to Extremes Vol. 1 sampler over there ------>; You'll love it. Order it HERE.] The Going to Extremes Vol. 1 compilation was a labor of love, a crucial step in the development of Gumshoe and, in the end, a HYPER-weird/-up-and-down/-jolt ing soundtrack to the day of your average weirdo indie-rock freakazoid. [...]
Tonstartssbandht - "Black Country" MP3/download I finally have the chance - sort of; not really; in fact not at all - to write a little about the pair of Tonstartssbandht concerts I attended earlier this summer. The first was in Fort Collins with M. Pyres and Run DMT, the second in Orlando, Fla., with Run [...]

Review of the 2010 Hillside Festival, Guelph Conservation Area, Ontario Part three of three. Part one posted on August 16 . Part two posted on August 17 . Perfect day in Guelph, despite the previous day's deluge. Day 3 The weather on the third day of Hillside [...]
The recent news that the brothers Gallagher had severed ties, yet again, got this reviewer to thinking about the time when Oasis was known for more than just bickering and onstage meltdowns.
![London All Stars - British Percussion - Barclay Records [reissue]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2020066_lg.jpg)
I've been trying to gather info on this band/album ever since it came in the mail, and I've found that this album came out in 1965. Thus, this must be a reissue, right (I mean, copies of the original vinyl LP cost $600 , so ...)? Right. Now that we've got that settled, I can get straight to raving: London All Stars ' British Percussion is a fantastic collection of instrumental tunes that slot between surf music circa The Ventures and [...]

The entrance to Long Kesh prison We only made it to one play at this year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival and what a play it was. Chronicles of Long Kesh at the Assembly Hall told the story of the prison situated outside Belfast that was variously known as Long Kesh, the Maze and the H Blocks. The prison opened as HM Prison Maze in 1971 and housed thousands of paramilitary prisoners before its eventual closure in 2000. This two-hour play could have been heavy going for its midday audience, but it managed to blend a hearthy dose [...]

Happy Monday folks! Might be the last happy Monday you have! Honestly I'm normally an optimistic person but I really feel tomorrow we will have nothing left in our pockets. We have the Recession Budget in Ireland tomorrow where the government will tax a little more from everyone, cut spending even more from everything and make decisions to keep us calm and content with our situation. This Alanis cover appeared as a B-side to the Andy White single Between a Man and a Woman. Andy White - Hand In My Pocket [...]
