Ane Brun's album is stellar. All the tracks are strong and worthy of being singles. This is one of them. Filed under: Beats , Clip , Scandi Tagged: ane , brin , brun , it all starts with one , music , single , tracks
Easing us into the new year with a dark and brooding performance against a bearly lit stairwell inside London's Scala is Norwegian songstress Ane Brun . One of the many highlights from Brun's current album It All Starts With One , 'Words' sees Ane stripped of any backing - leaving her fragile and torturous voice laid naked against a simple acoustic backing: the sound of passing traffic rumbles sporadically adding an almost accidental percussive element to this sincere ballad.

Haunting melodies Trickle down on lone lyrics. It All Starts With One . Filed under: Beats , Haiku Review , Scandi Tagged: album , ane brun , it all starts with one , new , review , single , worship
Every casual browser of this here internet loves a list, particularly around this dishearteningly dark and ubiquitously dank time of year. Whether it be a page documenting childlike greed winking and nudging at material gain beneath the tawdrily-lit pine or the explicit illumination of what it was that made whichever year draws to an anticlimactic close shine and brighten the gloomiest bowels of forgotten memory, the pipes, wires and cabling of the web are currently clogged with Lisztomania. Not that referring to Ken Russell's full-length; nor to Rick Wakeman's stodgy soundtracking; nor to Phoenix' glowing estival peep but instead to [...]
Ane Brun will return to the UK for a couple of dates in late April: 04/27 - Vicar St., Dublin 04/28 - Shepherds Bush Empire, London

Watch out for the new beats of 2012. Lianne La Havas is a great new talent that sounds and feels like a merger between Corinne Bailey Rae and Norah Jones without the pretense. Her sound is raw and sombre. She takes bluesy folk into a contemporary dimension, very much in the Ane Brun sense. She is a child of the Instagram generation. The young (only 21) damsel has just signed to major label Warner Music and she will be making waves next year, although she has garnered quite a following on Twitter and Facebook. More to come from this lovely newcomer. [...]

1. Greetings from Kuwait! Loft965.com picked your album It All Starts With One as an “Album to look forward to in 2011.” How do you feel about that and what do you think this year holds for you? I'm very proud and happy to hear that! I hope that as many people as possible will hear this album, because I'm very happy with it. I'm going to do my best to spread my music around the world. [...]

For evidence of the avidity of Scandinavian music enthusiasts and aficionados in London, endeavour to get down to the gloriously Nordic affair that is Ja Ja Ja . A short and smooth glide down Pentonville Road however is the Scala where on an aptly icy eve a queue splurges out from the door come six. Although winter darkness may have a profound effect on the Norwegian modus vivendi, while it may be dank and drab already, to keep things in context, this is obscenely early. The nearby Kings Cross is still a hive of commuter-centric activity and yet forever [...]

It All Starts With One is the fourth studio album from Norwegian (and honorary Swede) Ane Brun . Moving on from the more folky sound that accompanied her early releases, Brun has made the record of her career, so far - one that marks her out as the queen of high-quality Scandinavian pop. Guest appearances from First Aid Kit , Jose Gonzales and even Lykke Li 's drummer Per Eklund punctuate the record but it remain's [...]

Norwegian songwriter, guitarist and vocalist Ane Brun recently released It All Starts With One , her first studio album in over three years. This record follows up on her highly praised 2008 album Changing of the Seasons and, while it generally moves in the same emotionally-charged territory, it shows a clear evolution for the artist. Produced by her Tobias Fröberg, It All Starts With One showcases a fuller, more orchestral sound, as well as some of the most immediate melodies in Brun's career. [...]

October means we're happily knee-deep in baseball, surrounded by seasonal pumpkin ales, and, regrettably, wrist-deep in the slimy insides of jack-o-lanterns. Music has been my quiet oasis. I figure it's high time I stop futzing over my autumn mix and share it already. The fall mix is one of my favorites to make. In addition to being generally hyperaware of everything around me in life, especially subtexts and undercurrents, I notice an acute sharpening of my senses every time the seasons change. It's why I make you guys these seasonal mixes: as everything in the natural world [...]

You may feel as though there's already enough love in your heart for all things Scandinavian, but if you can clear the clutter from an atrium here or a ventricle there, you'd be wise to usher in Ane Brun or perhaps more precisely, It All Starts With One. Produced by the inconceivably gifted Tobias Fröberg (responsible for the lavish orchestration that gushes throughout) and backed by a slew of influential artists from that ethereal land that hangs over central Europe, Brun's latest work is a painstakingly crafted, achingly heartbreaking affair, and one [...]

This is one of those goose bump-raising moments. Norwegian chanteuse covers Bjork's "Joga" right in front of the icon in tribute. Dare we say, her vocals serve the song better. But comparison aside, this is plain lovely. Filed under: Beats , Clip , Icelandia , Scandi Tagged: ane , Björk , brun , joga , live , mp3 , watch
Peter Gabriel toured with an 46-piece orchestra last summer, and he was so stoked on the live permutations of the songs that he piled the orchestra into the studio with him to rerecord a number of his hits with new arrangements. To prep you for the release of New Blood , we've got the premiere of three songs from the record: "Don't Give Up", "Digging in the Dirt," and "Darkness." ("Don't Give Up" that features Ane Brun doing Kate Bush's part.) It's great to hear Gabriel pop back in again in a contemporary landscape as his music has generated [...]
