Avey Tare of Animal Collective announced today that along with Angel Deradoorian (previously of the Dirty Projectors ) and Jeremy Hyman (previously of Ponytail) he will be forming a band called Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks. He described the trio as: "A group of three hippies on a road trip through the backwaters of 2013s rural music scene fall prey to a murderous cannibalistic band making, including a leather-masked, guitar-wielding Avey Tare, his knife-wielding keyboard player Angel Deradoorian, and their cannibal chief drummer and decaying grandfather Jeremy Hyman." Without a record release scheduled, [...]

Earlier this year, Animal Collective cancelled shows due to health issues suffered by member Avey Tare, after having postponed dates last year, as well. He is resting his voice now, but the band will resurface for the Governors Ball in June. After the festival, Avey Tare's new side-project with Angel Deradoorian and Jeremy Hyman (Ponytail), Slasher Flicks, will go on a mini tour, primarily in the UK, including the Deerhunter-curated ATP. They will kick-off the jaunt at Brooklyn's Glasslands, which your season pass will surely be good for. Check out the tour dates below. [...]

photos by Greg Cristman "Congrats to @dirtyprojectors on an amazing show at Carnegie hall tonight. Great to hear all the old + new" - Yellow Ostrich Dirty Projectors played the first Wordless Music Series show of 2013 with their Carnegie Hall show on Friday (1/11) , for which they were joined by modern classical ensemble yMusic (who also opened the show) and a [...]
Oresti Tsonopoulos The lights darken, a door off to the left cracks open, out steps David Longstreth solo. He calmly walks to the front of the stage of Carnegie Hall and begins a rendition of "Swing Lo Magellan" alone with his guitar. As the nucleus for the living organism of a band called the Dirty Projectors , Longstreth starting the show alone onstage with the title track of their latest record was the perfect, understated move. Playing with melody and phrasing like a cat pawing yarn, his yearning voice seemed to both [...]

Stereogum Recently, Animal Collective have been holding down a weekly radio show , a vessel they've been using to premiere some new material . True to form, Avey Tare premiered three new solo tracks - two of which feature vacationing Dirty Projectors member Angel Deradoorian - and AnCo, at large, announced that they'd stream the full Centipede Hz on the show next Sunday. Dutiful AnCo message board Collected Animals has rounded up the songs, "Excalibur," "Mr. Funny [...]

As part of his mix for last night's episode of Animal Collective radio , Avey Tare premiered three new solo tracks. Both "Excaliber" and "Mr. Funny Man" feature vocals from one-time Dirty Projectors member Angel Deradoorian, while the flute-driven "Bobby's Loop" would fit nicely on the soundtrack for some National Geography documentary about insects. Stream all three cuts below (via Collected Animals ). Avey Tare with Angel Deradoorian - "Excaliber": Avey Tare with The Deradoorian Sisters - "Mr. [...]

Irregardless of all the elation innately located within each and every opus emitted from the erudite David Longstreth et al. – however conscientiously subversive – it is one subtly tarnished by a patina of rather depressive reality. For his Dirty Projectors , despite being just about the finest baroque pop alt.orchestra to contemporarily be entangled in our ethernet cables and whatnot, are markedly a fundamental of noughties counterculture when they really – albeit in some fictitious and ATP-curated synchronous universe – should surely be revered as the primary authors of mainstream culture; venerated as veritably impeccable composers of Handelian [...]

It's our first mixtape of summer! Accordingly, you should probably just act first and think later and just download it with reckless abandon, as you should do absolutely everything now that it is the season of impulsive behavior. But if you are incapable of such youthful indiscretion without examining the fine print/weighing every possible life consequence, then a) we have a lot in common and b) this mixtape will still please. It opens with Cat Power, so already, pretty good. It also features bona fide summer jams like "Pyramids" by Frank Ocean and "Fineshrine" by Purity Ring, alongside recently released [...]

Dave Longstreth is the leader of a cult/harem called the Dirty Projectors . Many claim that it is a 'buzzband', but insiders know that the altbaguettes in the band are basically brainwashed and enslaved, forced to 'ooh' and 'aahhh' in the background while he sings his little heart out. Without the altbaguettes, many ppl wouldn't even be interested in the Dirty Projectors . Most of their shows are filled with bros wanting to 'check out' that premium alt poontang on stage making mad O-faces. Anyways, between album cycles, Angel Deradoorian left the [...]
