A list of gigs that with the greatest intention I shall be at over the next few months! Monday night Upstairs in Whelans is the album launch for Garret Baker's home produced debut album. I'm really looking forward to this because from the little I have heard of Garret's music I think it will be a night of great music. http://www.myspace.com/garretb aker [...]
And so the end is near and we face the final curtain of the IMRO Showcase Tour 2009. Having kicked off nearly a month ago at the Sugar Club in Dublin, thirty seven of the country's brightest new talents have played live at venues across Ireland. It would be tempting to say that the final line-up at A.L.T. in Dublin this Friday 24th is perhaps the strongest of the whole jaunt, featuring as it does two of our Faces of 2009. So for one last time, here's who to look out for... Heathers [...]
Nialler has encouraged us all to make a list to help promote the best Irish music out there at the moment. For an hour yesterday and another hour or two this morning I thought about all the Irish artists I like at this moment in time. It's not an easy thing to do a list because I know I'm leaving out far too many good bands. However I'm happy to publish this list today as it defines what this blog is about and let's ya know what I think is great music in Ireland at this moment [...]

Of all the IRMO gigs announced during the week this has to be the best line-up. Highly recommended! Here's the story ..... €75 for the three gigs, Mark Geary, Mark Dignam and Brendan O'Shea all with tasty special unconfirmed guests and camping. You also have access to the beautiful surroundings of Conary, Co. Wicklow as well as a program of holistic events on the Saturday and Sunday. All sounds great to me! I'm off to buy a tent! [...]
...... written in hope an hour before the Ireland rugby match! Here comes the good times for Wallis Bird who is gigging in Austin at the minute on the back of her nomination by the Irish public as 'Hope for 2009' at the Meteor Awards. Catch Wallis live in Whelans in July. Find full Meteor results here! ****I'm thinking of changing the weekly features on the blog. You might see soon 'Friday I'm In Love' and 'Sunday's Summer Song' coming to [...]

This post is partly inspired by a mixture of good news for the Irish Music scene. Angel Pier's gig was great fun last night. There's the news that the reformed Butterfly Explosion is back and as good as ever. It also looks like Codes had a ball supporting Keane in the O2. Butterfly Explosion - Sophia Mp3 MySpace Kerbdog - Sally Mp3 MySpace Q [Colm Quearney] - Carol Mp3 MySpace Angel Pier - Emily Mp3 [...]

I came across the video for Angel Pier's Sprites and it reminded me of summer days looking at clouds as a teenager. Angel Pier released two excellent EP's last year which raises hopes for an outstanding debut album from the band in 2009. I'm looking forward to my first gig of the new year when I pop along to Whelans in a few weeks! http://www.myspace.com/angelpi er Angel Pier - Sprites

..... Why Don't I? End of year lists on the blogsphere are interesting and fun. Firstly I have not heard every Irish release this year. Nor have I seen every gig by an Irish artist. So this list is made with a limited small amount of albums heard and gigs attended. Irish Album of the Year 1. Pony Club – Post Romantic 2. One Day International - Blackbird 3. The Gorgeous Colours – Self-titled It was a great year for Irish album releases. I have enjoyed the albums by Jape, [...]

DATELINE: DUBLIN A musical movement is underway and gaining momentum in Ireland and it goes by the name: ANGEL PIER . In the past, we have been kind of sweet on this band but their sound is getting better by leaps and bounds these days. ( "Really guys, good show!" ) And, we are happy to relay that others (finally!) beginning to notice of their talent! With the 2008 release of the band's sensational [...]

Highlighting bands and artists from Ireland, the Hard Working Class Festival aims to bring these groups to the attention of media from around the globe. With our boys Angel Pier on the list, we thought we might give them a boost while sending some love out to the other 100 bands that are showcased. Best of all, free MP3s for every one of the artists. We took this list based on the current top-20 and we added the MP3s. Click on a group's song if you would like to support them or their name to [...]
We don't talk about enough fine Irish acts on this blog for good reason; there just aren't an awful lot of them around. When something worthwhile does come along we tend to break open the champagne and jump up and down while chanting 'there's more to this country than just U2'. Tis' a rare enough scene to be honest but a certain Dublin band named Angel Pier have been on my radar for a while now

Angel Pier has announced that they will be releasing their second EP, Sacrifice EP , on August 9. After dropping Bullet Holes & Broken Sectors last year, the group caught the ears of music-lovers with "Sprites". A group Hot Press calls "Irelands next break-out success" and NME says sounds like "classic indie pop… pitched between Coldplay, My Morning Jacket & The Killers", Angel Pier should corral a whole new slew of listeners with their newest EP. We have been fortunate enough to talk to the group as [...]

Formed in 2006 in Dublin Ireland by Mark & Darragh, Angel Pier took shape one night at Whelans, after which the founding duo quickly added Canadian guitarist Luke & bass groove merchant Vinny Redmond to polish off the lineup. Their first foray into the studio was with Kieran Lynch (U2, Elvis Costello, REM) undertaking production duties, and is titled the "Bullet Holes & Broken Sectors" EP, wherein you can find this song, "Sprites". Angel Pier recently regrouped in Thomastown to record with veteran producer Leo Pearson, who has worked with U2, Elvis Costello & David Holmes [...]

Volume One : January 1. [...]
These days when someone asks me to recommend a band that are worth investigating I normally draw a blank. This is only a recent phenomenon though as before starting this blog I could talk for Ireland about my favourite new band. Listening to so much music every day has a diluting effect, somehow you just lose sight of the wood and favourites tend to get lost in dizzyingly long list. Minutes pass

Rodolfo has been a busy man the past few months, so his recommendations have been few and far between. But the other day he "returned" and sent a message recommending Irish indie/alternative quartet Angel Pier . At first when I looked at the list of the band's influences I somehow got the feeling that we've been there several times before, as the band lists Radiohead , Joy Division , The Stone Roses , The Cure etc. just like (almost) every other new band does these days. But [...]
I'm not one for blathering on about the same band. Perhaps it's just my ADD-like tendency when it comes to listening to music of late. From time to time though a band strikes a chord (!) and I'm sold. Loney, Dear are fast becoming my favourite for 2007 along with Dublin band Angel Pier whose 'Bullet Holes & Broken Sectors' EP is giving my last.fm account some tough arithmetic workouts. Seeing as
