Facebook Most bands of a certain vintage these days have at least one of a break-up, extended hiatus, reunion, core lineup turnover, artistic irrelevance, diminishing fanbase, or becoming a nostalgia act in their narrative. Depeche Mode , however, largely bucks that trend. At it - it being one of the most influential electronic/alternative bands going - for more than three decades now, their output may have slowed a bit following their opening pace of six albums in seven years, but since 19872s massive Songs Of Faith and Devotion , they've kept a remarkably steady cycle of [...]

Animal Collective returns to Minneapolis next Monday, March 18 for a sold out show in the First Avenue Mainroom. AC, made up of Avey Tare, Panda Bear, Geologist, and Deakin, are touring in the wake of the group's tenth full length album, Centipede Hz , released last fall. The new album is pretty exciting; it's the first studio album to feature all four members since 2007's Strawberry Jam . MFR spoke with Brian Weitz (Geologist) of AC ahead of the show. He had interesting thoughts on creating Centipede Hz after [...]

Before Dan Deacon starts his series of tour dates alongside Animal Collective tonight in Boston , the Baltimore native premiered the curiously frenetic new video for "Crash Jam." The America cut was spliced together by fellow Baltimore artist Ben O'Brien , you sped up P90x videos for the collided effect. Check it below and grab America today via Domino Records.

Since becoming one of the dominant forms of modern entertainment, pop music has tried to compress the sound of summer into the confines of the three-minute song. The Beach Boys provided the blueprint for the "summer tune" by creating pop sketches that felt light like a mid-August breeze, but could subtly have the depth of the deepest ocean. Many have made attempts to harness that magic, with so few able to prevail. For every Brian Wilson there's a Seals & Crofts or [...]
La entrada Animal Collective en directo desde Nueva York aparece primero en noiselab.com .
I fondly look back upon the gloopy, expressively organic electronica of earlier AnCo recordings – that which sticks it all together. The Feels , and the Strawberry Jam of their discography and in turn everything external to it – everything these albums have subsequently inspired. Whether that be BRAIDS, or the exhilarating lifework of Canarian Pablo Díaz-Reixa or whoever else, its impact is always extraordinarily immediate. And so we come to London-based, though Lecce-born Antonio Elia Forte, who masquerades musically as Echopark . And perhaps rather inevitably, we find ourselves lost in the perfectly woozy imperfections of Teleportation. A dew-laced soundscape [...]

Teaming up with The Creator’s Project , Animal Collective have shared a series of phenomenally-shot and psychedelic-tinged live videos. Taken from last December's show at New York’s Terminal 5, the clips feature tracks from 20122s Centipede Hz LP. Watch the footage of 'Applesauce', 'Moonjock', and 'Amanita' all below:

If you have had he opportunity to see Animal Collective live, you have already experienced the incredible light show the boys from Baltimore incorporate with their set. If you have not had the chance to see AnCo , this video from their recent show at Terminal 5 in New York City will give you a glimpse at the visual experience at one of their performances. The video features a performance of Animal Collective's track Applesauce , off their latest album Centipede Hz released last September. After hitting the play button you will [...]

If you've ever caught Animal Collective live, you know that their on stage setup is something to behold. It's effect is difficult to recreate, but Vice's Creators Project have done their best to do their recent performance at New York's Terminal 5 justice. Their solution: psychedelic overlays of visualizers and cartoons. The video is tastefully done, and AnCo performs some of our favorite cuts from the chronically underappreciated Centipede Hz . Full screen it, and watch it in a dark room . The band has also relaunched [...]

We're constantly fascinated with the creative process here at Flavorwire, and one of the most important components of that process is the space in which it takes place. For musicians, at least as far as the recording process goes, this place is the studio, and as such we thought we'd take a look at the studios of some of our favorite musicians. The contrasts on display are intriguing, from the endearingly chaotic to the pristine and very expensive, from analog to digital, from minimalist to decked out in all sorts of crazy-looking gear. We hope you enjoy them as much [...]

It isn't quite the dulcet hook-loop of Animal Collective's "My Girls" that seized nearly everyone who heard it in 2009, but Walker Lukens ' "Kindle to Your Fire" channels the same type of big tent vocal, wrapped in a melody designed to be staircase on which the listener will traipse up and down. "Kindle to Your Fire" roots in something less specifically glittering, more organic, maybe richer even, as Lukens wails the title lyric into a World Music-indebted arrangement. The loop is a vocal, Lukens singing a modulated series of tenor, "oh's" from the outset [...]

Beaty Heart have laid low for a little while now, last appearing back in 2011 on the Slush Puppy/Cola EP, and it appears to have done them the world of good. Seafood, out April 8th on Heart Throb Records, sees them venturing out with the first cut from their debut LP, as well as a clearer sense of what they are trying to be. Oh and they brought along a solid, tropical-pop song to boot. (That comparison in 3, 2, 1…) Animal Collective have always been their most [...]
