1. Snowmine - "The Hill" Typically by the time there's snow settling outside I'm listening religiously to somber acoustic songs. This year that has not been the case.Brooklyn natives Snowmine and their sweet little track "The Hill" exemplifies the more upbeat music I'm digging into lately. NF Rating: (Terrible and bushy)Before I commence the music video review, I better get something cosmetic out the way first because I believe this will be indicative as to where this review from the following artist will go and hopefully start off a horrendous trend in the beauty parlors everywhere in Auckland. In the Book Notes series, authors create and discuss a music playlist that relates in some way to their recently published book. Kathleen Winter's debut novel Annabel has been on my radar since garnering critical accolades last year in Canada. Annabel lives up to its hype. Winter tells the coming of age story of a mixed gender child eloquently, lyrically, and powerfully without resorting to sensationalism. The Rumpus wrote of the book: "Annabel is a novel that evokes [...]
Annabel have released an EP, Here We Are Tomorrow, to follow up on their 2009 debut album Each And Everyone . It's a lot of fuzzy noise, like all the good alt-rock out of the 1990s. It's much less accessible than the band's earlier work, and I mean that in the best way possible. Prior releases were catchy, but bordered on simplistic. On this one, Annabel aren't afraid to get dirty. Dirt looks good on this band. They should stay grimey. On the [...]

![Annabel: Each and Everyone [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2193406_lg.jpg)
Annabell 's first full-length album, Each and Everyone , is, for lack of a better word, a doozy. It might be what you'd expect from Midwestern emo kids, and it is mainly more of the same songs and sounds as heard on their self released debut EP - but it's also got so, so much more. What is it exactly? That's a tough one. Killer drum lines are a definite. Maybe a greater sense of self confidence, too. These things are a great start. [...]
Last summer I wrote some nice things about Annabel's promising debut EP Now That We're Alive and I'm glad to find the band hasn't missed a beat and hasn't really shaken things up too much with their recently released full-length Each And Everyone . Again, the Kent, Ohio band's melodic indie-pop sounds breezy but layered and dense and a little familiar. Imagine Interpol without the dark corners or a less quirky Troubled Hubble and you might get close to imagining what Annabel is up to here. There are re-recorded versions of three [...]

Annabel's Now That We're Alive EP made my Top 10 of 2008 list and their new record will most likely be making it on to 2009's list. It doesn't hurt that they re-recorded a slew of the EP tracks for the new release, but the new new songs are fantastic as well. They are going out on tour, and once again, coming nowhere near the West Coast, so no live show for me. Shame on them! And make sure to check out their new Each And Everyone LP, available from their MySpace page. [...]
