I had not expected her performance to be as moving as it was, but I have to say that when I got to the stage, I was almost instantly tingling. I sat in awe at Anni's pure, unadulterated music. It was what everyone at the festival was attempting to do, but clearly no one would even come close to measuring up to Anni Rossi's sound. Her recordings don't do her justice by far... Like last year, it was the smallest stage that had the most moving performance of the festival (not counting YYY's performance ... [...]

The third annual Monolith Festival took over scenic Red Rocks in Colorado last weekend, with one of the most pleasantly-varied assortment of music yet, and I found much to entertain my ears. Perhaps I was more motivated this year than last, but despite the rain Saturday and drizzles on Sunday, I constantly found myself making tough choices between acts slotted simultaneously that I wanted to see. It's good to have more than enough choices at a festival, running back and forth to catch the next buzzed-about act - and I certainly did at Monolith [...]

H&TM are a music supervisors wet dream, the [...]

Wow, Chris really read my mind a little bit with his post yesterday. I think its having a lot of time to myself with such beautiful weather this Labor Day weekend, but I've been listening to bunch of folk tunes these past few days. We've talked about both Anni Rossi and Alela Diane on TSRE before, but I want to reiterate how talented and awesome they are. I finally got Anni Rossi's debut LP Rockwell this weekend and it is phenomenal. He music is unique and avant garde, but in a way that evokes her midwestern roots in [...]

Picture three kids wearing baggy, homemade band t-shirts “playing band” in the attic, using pots, pans, bottles, and kiddie guitars as instruments. They seem to have little sense of traditional song structure and don’t worry too much about on-stage antics. Instead, the guitar player simply revels in the fact that when she strums the chords of her plastic-stringed guitar, it makes a noise. The drummer bangs wildly on his pot-lid drum set. A friend fiddles with a keyboard and laptop, pausing occasionally to hit her drumsticks against wine bottles. Now picture those three kids creating fantastic [...]

I'm trying to think of the right word to describe the songs in this post, I believe the term people would like to use is 'Indie' but I despise that word. It's such a blanket term and encompasses a lot of crap that I don't like. These tracks are soothing, space out. Sit by the ocean and listen to them in silence with waves in the background and lose yourself. Or channel Brendan Gibney/ Bob Ross and do some painting. Ellie Goulding's voice is magical, I'm pretty sure I'd let her follow [...]

Anni Rossi - Safety Of Objects Read my review of Anni Rossi @ NYC's Webster Hall here. Last month, she debuted a clip for 'The West Coast'. Anni Rossi recently recorded a Daytrotter session. MP3: Anni Rossi - Safety Of Objects

This is a mix I made of songs from this year that I like. Some of these songs you've probably heard, some you might not have. It should fit nicely on a CD and comes embedded with some awesomely patriotic album art (that's a real, non-photoshopped image by the way). Enjoy the mix and have a great ID4! There were so many music options in the city this past weekend( Pride , Toronto City Roots Festival , Toronto Jazz Festival , Zunior 5th Anniversary show at Tranzac) that I'd thought a simple gig at Lee's Palace might not suffice. However, I can always make an exception for Glasgow, Scotland's Camera Obscura whose magnificent pop melodies could send chills up my spine at just the right moments. Chicagoan Anni Rossi , scheduled to have started her set at 10:15 pm according to the Lee's Palace website, finally came on after 10:30 pm. [...]

Frank Yang There were plenty of evening entertainment options in Toronto this past Saturday night, including but not limited to free shows as part of Pride over in the Village and the Zunior Fifth Anniversary festivities at the Tranzac, but I opted to head over to Lee's Palace to see Camera Obscura - a band I'd already seen live some half-dozen times. Considering that even the most generous fan would be hard-pressed to call them an especially dynamic live act, you might rightly question why I keep going back rather than try something [...]
Anni Rossi doesn't do much to convince me that the west coast is where I want to be in this video for The West Coast , but it's still pretty good. Plus there's a pretty sweet little Spyhunter moment. Anni Rossi - Machine
Last night marked the third time that I've seen Anni Rossi's mesmerizing set. In spite of the fact that it only clocks in at 15 minutes, each & every track that she tackles is simply breathtaking. Watch Anni's brand new video for 'The West Coast' here. Her magnificent debut album, Rockwell, is out now. More photos, [...]
