I always have mixed feelings about seeing a great band with an audience of under 100 people. On one hand, it's like an intimate gathering with like-minded friends. On the other, a definite lack of energy can be reflected by the band. On tour for their second album, Such Fun , Annuals have been touring the country with a concert lineup that includes two strong supporting acts. Saturday, February 21st, Annuals, Jessica Lea Mayfield, and What Laura Says stopped in San Francisco to perform at Slim's. Well on Saturday I headed down to the House of Blues' smaller room dubbed the 'Pontiac Garage' to partake of Raleigh, NC's much lauded Annuals, and I have to say I was pretty impressed. I didn't know much what to expect going into the show having only heard bits and pieces of albums and songs, and also having heard numerous comparisons to Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene. I'm not sure that those comparisons would be the most apt, but this band is really like a chameleon, but in a good way, so it is kind of tough [...]
