Download Apartment Takes It's cover of the National's 'Apartment Story,' heard here for the first time.
The song list this year has a lot of crossover with the records list from yesterday. I suppose that is to be expected to a certain degree, but I get it's a little repetitive for me to be banging on about the same bands over and over again. Still, that's the nature of these lists, and I'm not going to throw in other things for the sake of it. 1. Los Campesinos! - A Heat Rash in the Shape of the Show Me State, or, Letters from Me to Charlotte [...]
Friday and Saturday can be found here . SUNDAY Stumbling out of the Travelodge at dawn (around 10:30), it was decided that Sunday would be the day that things were really mixed up. By which I mean we went to Sainsburys for breakfast instead of Tesco. It cost a little more, and the service was a little bit slower, but it was rather more tasty, so that's a good result I think. Shambling onto the site just before the first bands on, it was time for another [...]
I love Indietracks. In preparation for writing this, I've been concerned that anything I say is just going to be horribly gushing. I've gone over the weekend again and again looking for negatives to include in this. I didn't come up with very much. This is a festival that can seemingly do no wrong to me, and what's written below will reflect that. With that said, let's jump aboard the train toward the Midland Railway Centre in Derbyshire for a look back at this year's Indietracks. FRIDAY [...]

Once again, Indietracks was an absolute delight. The proper review (you know, the one with words and stuff) will follow tomorrow, but here are the fruits of my photographic labour: [...]

Antarctica Takes It! From: Bay Area, California United States If you own California lo-fi sextet Antarctica Takes It!'s first album, then you'll know that songwriter Dylan McKeever is an incurable romantic. The band's debut was awash with magical songs that conjure up the ghosts of [...]

Hailing from the mellow shores of Monterey Bay, Antarctica Takes It! are six incredibly young and sparkling people (though apparently it started more or less as a one man project by some guy called Dylan, ) devoted to joyful and harmonizing pop that still carries a subtle amount of delightful melancholia, somehow reminiscent of Belle and Sebastian and pretty close to what their transatlantic soul mates of Fanfarlo are doing at the moment. Antarctica Takes It! are getting very warm reception in the whole Bay Area right now, and listening to Constellations , [...]

How does it feel to be loved , the label, will be releasing the second album "Constellations" from Antarctica Takes It! on August 2nd. The album is already available for pre-order from http://www.howdoesitfeel.co.uk /shop.html , and it's already available as a digital download on iTunes. Don't be surprised if you get your pre-ordered album long before the release date. My experience from earlier pre-orders is that they're very kind and send the records out when the orders arrive. I couldn't wait, so I have already bought a digital copy [...]
When I opened my mail on Saturday, I let out a "whoa" when I saw that Antarctica Takes It! had mailed me a new record. I remembered loving their first album in 2006 (and the wider-released reissue in 2008, but never heard a peep out of them in the years since. Well, turns out they've [...]

Thursday, June 3, 2010 Today's Quick Mention: Just when I was feeling pretty awesome about getting the opportunity to celebrate 90s indie rock with Pavement in San Francisco later this month, The Pixies announced they'll be playing the Austin Music Hall on September 22. I think I win. Forever. Antarctica Takes It! have returned. The act has a somewhat inconvenient knack for disappearing in between incredibly catchy singles (the kind that never seem to stop playing in your head), so [...]

Good lord, has it really been three and a half years since I last mentioned Antarctica Takes It! on here? Apparently so, and looking back on that, it's rather more cringeworthy than I expected. That was just around the time I was first dabbling in what I then, perhaps wrongly, labelled "tweepop". The same post did also feature Cats on Fire though, so I must have been doing something right at least. Antarctica Takes It! are a six-piece from California who make lovely little pop songs. Their first album, 2006's The Penguin League , was full of [...]

Photos by: Nicole Browner Drinking beer with ice and having nothing for sale, Sacramento's English Singles opened the night and tore through a short but very satisfying set of sweet pop ditties. The lead singer cut loose on the last song to dance around a bit, a nice surprise as the other members seemed a little green. The band is young but very tight and they have quite an albums worth of catchy, infectious pop. We desperately await that release. [...]

I've talked on a number of occasions about Antarctica Takes It! (including making their debut record my #12 record of the last decade ). Well, if you like them anywhere close to as much as me, here's your chance to support a well-deserving indie band. Dylan McKeever (the guy behind the operation) is recording the new record and is looking for small donors who can pledge a few bucks to get the whole thing done. C&F - Antarctica Takes It! The first song is out, and [...]
Tuesday, December 2, 2009 Below you'll find the third part of my Top 50 Songs Of 2009! Enjoy. Couple of things ... My only criteria for the list was that the tracks had to be from the pool of over 600 that made an appearance here at Side One: Track One over the course of the last 11 months. This list is not a good representation of my Top 25 Albums Of 2009 (they will [...]

The 'fest runs though Sunday, May 24, 2009 and Keenan, amazing imaginary photographer Steve Louie and I will be running around the greater San Francisco area basking in all that fine fine indie-pop. We're looking forward to most all the bands (ballboy ballboy ballboy), but we put together a podcast of some of the lesser known ones and ones with hit songs we've been listening to on repeat (ahem: Stay Flyin'). You should go [...]
