Plainly not the Contrast Podcast here, but had I gotten round to it... this week's theme is/was Mountains, and one of these woulda been my choice (hey, they say anyone can join in) . Cripes, I could build a six-lane motorway with good intentions, but the days dribbled by, and almost a week after resolving to have a crack - err, well... I haven't done. Sunshine, Moonlight, & Good Times I can't blame, nor any form of dancing; just bloody depression - maybe next week eh?, I'll kick my own arse otherwise. [...]

A selection of songs that seem to exude 'Englishness' - that notion always comes to mind when I hear this first one, which seems to convey a sort of optimistic despair about the country. You're hungry from the beer, for a takeaway; you scrub the kitchen out to pay for it. But you only have to hear the fellow talk, and you don't want what you bought (I know) There's nothing short of contempt at the sides of your face. We're all from the same place, aren't we mate ?. There always will be [...]

I love a good cover version as much as anyone does; but it's nice if they bring something new to the party... a different style perhaps, tempo maybe, although of course some artists have a unique voice that's a pleasure to hear interpreting an old standard. Take this first song from Susanna, which I've posted with other covers before : ♫ Jailbreak - Susanna Flower of Evil (2008) - Rune Grammofon myspace | buy completely different to the [...]

Everybody loves The Beatles, right? In fact the four lads from Liverpool had such a powerful influence on music appreciators across the planet, that people can't help but honor them. Here are three of my favorite tributes as perfected by the French Canadians, some South Africans and Nigerians, and Anthony Newley himself. This post has: 3 Images 3 MP3's Posted by Emily Categories: [...]

First off, goodbye to Hilly Kristal . I know I tend to lead off my posts with death, and I know people venerate CBGB's too much, but it was the home of my first scuzzy New York rock and roll experience (Lubricated Goat, sometime in '92, I think) and it will therefore always hold a special spot for me. Here's hoping his ghost haunts CBGB's for a good long time, keeping that Space Available sign in action and dissuading any further bogus redevelopment. Mr Dante Fontana offers a fitting video tribute: The Dead Boys . (photo via [...]

The 365 Days Project is back to share once more and the second time around it's happening right smack dab here every single day of 2007. In 2003 I organized the first 365 Days with over 70 people sharing from their stash of aural treats. Same thing this year with new and old contributors. The only change in 2007 is that everyday can feature more then just one mp3 (as server space was tight four years ago). So look for single songs to full albums shared by a host [...]
