Beschreiben tut er sie folgendermassen: "The Police arresting Fleetwood Mac defended by Crosby Stills and Nash in Simon and Garfunkel's Crowded House jamming with Coldplay and The Beatles". Wen das anmacht, der kann [...]

The Voice Project features my hero Billy Bragg this week. He's doing a cover of Joanna Newsom's "On A Good Day" and it's, of course, just lovely. I can't embed it for you here, so hop over there and watch it along with all the other cover songs by artists you know and love and follow like: Peter Gabriel doing Tom Waits' "In The Neighborhood," Kitten doing Cat Power's "The Greatest," Steel Train doing LaRoux's "Bulletproof," Andrew Bird doing Cass McCombs' "Meet Me Here At Dawn" and so many more. The Voice Project is an [...]

From the Album Resonant String Theory We have played ANTIQCOOL several times before on Insomnia Radio on the UK Show. Pete Smith from the band has a campaign going to spread their Creative Commons Licenced music as widely as possible. Have a listen to him explaining his plans on The ANTIQCOOL Podcast . Also, if you like this track, be sure to check out the next Insomnia Radio: UK which is a special feature dedicated [...]

i hate these posts where people tell you how sick they are, but damn it all to fucking hell... i can't listen to music, i can't go anywhere, i can't even read much more than 10 minutes at a time. i'm flattened. i'll be back soon, my lovelies, once i'm a human being again, xoxo in the meantime, please do visit some of my friends on the left side of my page (including the newly added Glasgow Podcart folks who've said some kind words about me and some of my [...]

Continuing the growing Knox Road trend of featuring artists who provide little to no information about themselves (see: Hello, Broken Arrow and Manet ,) I present to you Antiqcool , from just outside Chester, England. As far as I can tell (and have been told,) Antiqcool is the project of Pete Smith and various friends. When I asked Smith for more information, this is mostly what he had to say: We are a mysterious bunch, the limelight is our kryptonite which clearly makes life difficult for people who want to write about [...]

The good old fashioned musical mystery, an audio collaboration that could easily be as complicated as the Enigma Code, a personnel puzzle to confuse the most ardent of reviewers. I`m sure Chester based Pete Smith refrains from masks and disguises but wonderfully composed collections of music, EP`s and albums are a growing trend from those elusive ego-less musicians. Out of the countless subliminal comparisons that surround Antiqcool, the term `Ian Brown goes to The Cambridge Folk Festival` so neatly labels the direction and sound. Antiqcool : Girl In A [...]

Continuing to get caught up with the immense...okay, considerable...okay, bunch of music on the desk, I thought I'd start by sharing another track from the terrific recent self-titled release from Audrye Sessions. If there's any justice in the musical world, this band and this EP will get the recognition and sales it so richly deserves. It's one of those rare releases where you just let it play and never worry about having to skip over a bad track. It's just terrific. I know I use "highly recommended" to the extreme, but...damn, highly recommended . [...]

The music is flowing fast and furious into the old inbox, folks, and I cannot possibly keep up. Here are a few things that I've received in recent weeks (months? I am so far behind) that I think you will enjoy. Fiction Family -- "When She's Near" mp3 off Fiction Family ( buy ) I LOVE this. I put it on a mix-tape and every time I hear it I think, oooh, I want to hear that again. [...]
British indie rock collective Antiqcool, led by singer-songwriter Pete Smith, are getting ready to release a new album in 2009. They describe their music unashamedly as The Police arrest Fleetwood Mac defended by Crosby Stills and Nash in Simon and Garfunkel's Crowded House. What that translates to, as you will find out with 'Already Late', is an acoustic refrain driven melody with Smith's own brand of airy vocals. This isn't very new or very unique material, but a steady formula executed well. And definitely worth a download. [...]
The United Kingdom's Antiqcool has a knack for taking a familiar musical path and fine-tuning it with excellent harmonies and precise guitars. Sometimes a solo project, sometimes a collaboration; no matter, the music is atmospheric, laid back and smooth. Self-described as "The Police arrest Fleetwood Mac defended by Crosby Stills and Nash in Simon and Garfunkel's Crowded House"; classic. We'll be featuring more from the band in the near future. Antiqcool - mp3: Already Late • [...]

This time of year is all about "best-ofs" and "year-ends" and "wrap-ups," but believe it or not there is still new music coming out. Here are a few songs I got through the grapevine this past week. Twiggy Frostbite -- "Lanterns and Stars" mp3 Yes, this is a holiday tune, and it's really pretty, feathery and ethereal. Don't you love their name? Antiqcool -- "Already Late" mp3 I should have put this [...]

The pioneering efforts of Crosby, Stills & Nash occasionally pop up on MUF's radar in the form of talented new groups, but often these groups fall too far in the funk rock or country genres for us to really get into. U.K.'s Antiqcool have captured their timeless vocally strong and heart-warming aura in a way that it would be wrong to not exploit via some press. Even when Antiqcool steers wide of their somewhat aged guitar and soft vocal approach, an alternative groove comes forth that remains thick with the group's mellow mentality. [...]

We found this song in our inbox last night, and we're really feeling it. It's called Already Late from UK band Antiqcool; its a smooth, folksy acoustic number with light and wonderfully wispy vocals. Check it out below. Already Late- Antiqcool

You don´t receive a nice popsong in the mail that often, but I just got lucky. Antiqcool has already released two albums in the past, but I have to admit this British collective from Chester was not on my radar until now. Yesterday night, I played their Already Late two times, liked it, and promptly forgot all about it. Until I found myself humming its gorgeous melody in the shower this morning... Surely a good sign? What do you think, dear reader? Top or flop? Hit or miss? I´d really like [...]

Antiqcool is enigszins mysterieus. Duidelijk is wel dat ene Steve Smith uit Chester, in het noordwesten van Engeland, er achter schuilgaat. Soms werkt hij alleen, soms met anderen. En hoe klinkt het? Antiqcool omschrijft het als volgt: "The Police arrest Fleetwood Mac defended by Crosby Stills and Nash in Simon and Garfunkel's Crowded House." Beetje [...]

Placing a prominent sticker on the front of your new release that lists the bands that have influenced the recording does you no favours at all. It practically invites the listener to spend their time spotting the references rather than actually listening to the music. A particular shame in the case of Antiqcool for Songs Of Hope And Despair is anything but a lazy re-tread of already familiar sounds. The driving force behind Antiqcool is singer, song writer and guitarist Pete Smith - further details are hard to come by - but, as the album [...]
