Our friend Allyson at Bring Back Glam has been reporting from Rocklahoma all week. She's obviously a big fan of the event, given that a) she runs a site all about glam and b) she wrote the text for the Rocklahoma coffee table book that came out last year. But she's been making (perfectly valid) complaints [...]

There isn't a single artist on today's bill that I've previously seen. Truth be told, I'm not all that excited about it either. I was a big fan of early Anthrax albums (specifically Among The Living ), but various singer changes have left me completely uninterested. I will definitely give their headlining set my undivided attention though and hopefully be won over by their new vocalist. What I'm definitely most excited about today is seeing Saxon (above). The New Wave of British Heavy Metal [...]

visage - "the anvil" (download) I discovered this record in the dollar bin a few years back. I picked it up based on the cover art. It just looked dark and new wavey, so I had to try it out. I put it on the turntable when I got home and lo and behold, it WAS dark and new wavey. I fell in love with this song, and did a bit of research on them. Turns out, Visage has consisted off and on of members of [...]
There's no question that AC/DC is a major touring act, but it seems like they're having a little trouble filling the barn that is Giants Stadium for their upcoming July 31 gig on the Black Ice tour. They're currently selling single tickets for that show for the low price of $26.50 + service charges (reduced from $29.50) and they're also selling ticket 4-packs for $87.50 + service charges (reduced from the original $99). The password for the Giants Stadium "Ticketdeals 4-Pack Partner Offer" is TMDEAL [...]

Anvil! The Story of Anvil is sort of a metal version of Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler : '80s pop culture icon gives way to '90s irrelevance, which gives rise to an attempted comeback this century. It even has a service industry hairnet scene. Both movies are more than the heartwarming stories they are made out to be. Anvil 's tale has even more bite, due to it being real life. Metal on Metal The documentary gets off to an unpromising start. It shows [...]

Steve "Lips" Kudlow and Robb Reiner formed the band Anvil as teenagers but never really found fame after years of playing together and releasing a string influential yet commercially unsuccessful albums, including 1982's much respected, Metal on Metal . In 2008, Sacha Gervasi 's Anvil! The Story of Anvil! , a documentary about the band's first European tour in decades and their last ditch quest for glory, premiered to much acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival. Billed as "the real life Spinal Tap", the [...]

Steve "Lips" Kudlow is an optimistic guy. His band Anvil was handed the proverbial shit sandwich, while their metal contemporaries-bands like Scorpions, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake-went on to sell millions of records worldwide. Life ain't fair, I tell you. Anvil made its name in the early '80s with its definitive album Metal On Metal , while the band toured all over wearing fetish gear and playing their guitars with vibrators. So why was Anvil left in the dust? "Sometimes life deals you a tough deck," says Slash, one of a handful of metalheads (including Slayer's [...]
The film documents a story of two friends, the band they made when they were kids, and their ongoing determination to make something of it. Possibly unintentional on the behalf of the director however, it becomes a film that sheds light on the power of the human spirit and how stubborn dedication to something you believe in can help overcome disaster.
Anvil's Steve "Lips" Kudlow and Robb Reiner are interviewed on the May 14 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The Uptown Theatre manager is asking for information about last weekend's theft.

Sunday was an excellent day on the live music front for me. First off was a great early show with The Dears, Eulogies, and Great Northern. Great Northern were good, and although I only got to hear a few songs from The Dears(had to leave early, more on that later) I was really impressed with them. But for me, the main attraction was the second band on the bill, LA band Eulogies. I have been listening to their latest record 'Here Anonymous' rather obsessively for a couple of weeks now, and their live set didn't disappoint AT ALL. Here is [...]
