You know, when you almost can’t even tell that she’s singing about late night sex and Patron on ice! I’m not the biggest fan of melodramatic, fashion-centered, “rich girl’s world” kind of television shows, but perhaps you caught this marvellous cover during an episode of Gossip Girl? If you didn’t, then I suggest you take a piece of friendly advice and give it a chance because this cover is awesome. Anya Marina’s take on T.I.’s "Whatever You Like" is like a refreshing cup of tea on a cold night compared to the original [...]
Train: You sure do a lot of relaxing for someone who's not on vacation Axel: Well, you sure do a lot of judging for someone who's not a judge Train: ... Axel: Anyway, I have some covers for the people. They're all Axel tested and Muffin approv- Train: I'm going to go ahead and ...

In what is easily one of the sexiest scenes in the history of the show, Gossip Girl had a threesome a couple episodes a go. This is the song that soundtracks it. Here, Anya Marina does a T.I. cover that works on so many different levels. It's not kitschy like so many indie covers of rap songs are; it's subtle, sexy, and takes on a whole new meaning in her breathy voice. And really, that's what the best covers do: provide a whole new perspective on a song that had previously been considered in only one context. It [...]

Anya Marina is kinda hot and has an awesome voice. So naturally, she has fit my criteria to blog about her music on BTA. I literally came across this girl today while doing my daily scout of the interweb looking for new tunes. Now I haven't seen Twilight and don't really intend on watching movies about some lonely emo girl that shags vampires or whatever, but she must be on the soundtrack as one of her videos is the whole 'the artist is in the random movie setting / scene but not' deal. What caught my attention though was [...]

This season of Gossip Girl has been slow and (more often than not) boring. So slow and boring that I just watched episode 9, thus the tardiness of this post. I'm going to switch up the way I do these because the plot hasn't been the only thing taking a toll this season. I'll still give you every week's full playlist, but I'll focus on the tracks that truly made the episode special. No track played this entire season deserves it more than Anya Marina's wonderful cover of T.I.'s radio-killed "Whatever You Like". [...]

Ok, so I watch Gossip Girl and I have no shame about it. Occasionally it pays off musically. I was watching this past week's episode with a friend and we got to the scene where the threesome started (can't even touch upon that right now), and we were like "is that at T.I. cover?". Indeed it was. Anya Marina has covered "Whatever You Like" in such a sweet and sincere manner, that I can almost digest it as a straight up love ballad. This is partly hilarious, but mostly filled with [...]

I have recently seen the Gossip Girl episode which featured Anya Marina's cover of T.I.'s hit - Whatever You Like. I'm afraid T.I. had to take the backseat because Anya Marina did a heck of a job in this cover. It's a big help that indie artist's get a boost with all these popular TV shows on air featuring their music - like Grey's Anatomy, The Hills, How I Met Your Mother, and a lot more. Making a cover of your song is a good form of flattery. Take is as a compliment T.I., even if the cover sounded a [...]
It is a fantastic feeling. The feeling of utter amazement, almost like what a kid feels as he visits a theme park for the first time. A music rush for this music junkie. Thanks to my stationary job I can afford to listen to music almost every day and every once in a while there is a song/artist that just hits closer to home than other. Browsing around Sheena Beaston's blog I came across the beautiful singer/songwriter Anya Marina from San Diego, California. A calm smoky voice softly covering the warm melodies of her acoustic [...]
Something about this song actually really bothers me. I don't like it at all. But for some reason I find it really hard to not post singer/songwriters covering popular hip-hop songs. It's the Achilles' heel of this blog, and it will surely be the death of me. Thanks to FirstUp . Anya Marina - Whatever You Like (T.I. Cover) | YouSendIt Pigeons and Planes

This season of Gossip Girl has been, to be perfectly honest, slightly off and boring. New characters gets tossed in left and right, ms. goodie 2 shoes Hillary Duff, the endless fight over the steps etc, but the last episode turned it around for me. Wow! I'm sure next week's "The Last Days of Disco Stick" featuring Lady GaGa will top it but for now s03e09 is the best episode of Gossip Girl ever. Why u might ask? Cause of that threesome? No. No no, the why isn't even a part of the series cast or plot. [...]

Anya Marina is the kind of singer/songwriter who embodies the spirit of storytelling. Embracing the notion that "less is more", Marina's appealing conversational vocal style lays forth an intimacy that is easily digestible and highly listenable. With two albums to her credit, Anya has made small waves on the indie/acoustic scene by touring with the likes of Jason Mraz and soon, Paolo Nutini. Most notably, however, might be the placement of many of her songs on network and cable television staples. From Grey's Anatomy to How [...]
Who watched Gossip Girl this week? While that disgusting threesome between Dan, Vanessa, and Hilary Duff was going on, Anya Marina's "Whatever You Like" played in the background. While I wasn't vomited from the thought of the three of those together, I was entranced by Marina's cover of T.I. Check out the video for the song above.
Filed under: What's That Song? 'Whatever You Like' by Anya Marina (original version by T.I. ) Hilary Duff , threesome and primetime TV aren't three phrases you'd expect to hear together often, but Monday night's episode of ' Gossip Girl ' went there (sort of). Duff, who was introduced this season as Olivia Burke -- a movie star going to college with a handful of the 'Gossip Girl' regulars in New York City -- [...]
Here's a little midweek detour into the mainstream for you: Anya Marina's sweet ballad "Satellite Heart." The song is on the soundtrack to the movie "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," which its bazillion-dollar advertising budget tells me will debut Nov. 20. I could care less about the movie; I'm more liable to be (in fact, I was) smitten by Marina's sexy-scratchy vocals, which carried her album "Slow & Steady Seduction: Phase II," released a year ago this month. A nice song, and I hope the moviemakers helped her pay a few months' rent for it. ||| [...]

Last night's episode of Gossip Girl relied heavily (more than usual) on its music. It also featured plenty of low-key gems to keep you going until next week's episode. One of the most impressive playlists on the series.
