We all love lists, and we all love sarcasm. Though, I think its important to reflect upon the last year of music, I’m going to do so through the use of a list. It was a fantastic year full of awesome albums, and I’m going to count down a bunch of my favorites, and give you something to listen to while reading. 15. The Middle East - I Want That You Are Always Happy The Middle East - Jesus Came To My Birthday Party Darkly toned [...]

[It's Buzz Bands LA staff writer Seraphina L's turn to share a year-end list ...] By Seraphina Lotkhamnga Choosing one's favorite albums of the year is always a daunting task, and it’s even worse when you have to whittle your list down to 25. Here are my thoughts on 2011 albums (local and non-local), and I’ll go ahead and say that it’s been a really great year for L.A. bands to break out. My special mentions [...]
Here comes the third installment in my countdown of my favorite 20 local albums of the year. Did you miss the first two? Here they are: Nos. 20-16 ; Nos. 15-11 . 10. Army Navy , "The Last Place" (Fever Zone) Jangle-pop doesn't get much better these days than the sophomore album cooked up by Justin Kennedy, Louie Schultz and Douglas Randall. With Kennedy waxing forlornly about a breakup, "The Last Place" stands [...]
Apex Manor – The Year of Magical Drinking. Download “Under the Gun” (mp3). Ross Flournoy fronted the band The Broken West. After that band disbanded and Flournoy dealt with a bout of writer’s block, he has returned with a new band, Apex Manor. The album sounds like an extension of the previous group’s releases. With Flournoy’s propensity for power pop, these catchy songs are effervescently layered with guitars and keyboards.

I remember just two weeks ago, the first of September and how the air already felt different. We've had some warm days but it's not the sun of the summer beating down. Instead, it's gentle, refreshing, and makes you look forward to fall. Having misplaced my usual ipod, I've had to use my backup that is synced with an older itunes library. I haven't listened to much of that music that resides on a back up hard drive, so it was a nice change of pace when I went [...]

Frank Yang What's in a name? If you were at The Drake Underground on Friday or Saturday nights, possibly a lot. Over those two nights the marquee outside the front doors read Jonny and Apex Manor , as the two acts were kicking off their North American tour with a two-night stand in Toronto, but had the top billing read Teenage Fanclub and Gorky's Zygotic Mynci - as Jonny is the collaboration of those two bands' Norman Blake and Euros Childs - then maybe there'd have been a little [...]

THE RUMBLE: LOS ANGELES @ THE ECHO - 5.5.11 Riverside's The New Division Thanks to everyone that came out to last week's RUMBLE: LOS ANGELES party at The Echo and to all the bands that performed. Riverside, California's THE NEW DIVISION opened up the evening with the kind of refreshing enthusiasm that is sorely missed these days - the band was genuinely happy to play and sounded great despite the loss of their guitarist, who got stuck tending bar for [...]
