It's been quite a while since I've delved in the world of album covers in my ongoing album art lover series, but I was inspired by Sharon Van Etten's sleeve for her brilliant new album, Tramp (which is streaming on NPR today by the way) to explore the ever-popular face cover. They say that 93% of communication is non-verbal, which perhaps explains why the face-cover has endured for so long. You can usually get a good idea of the album you're about to hear by the expression and composition of the [...]

Another great week! What better way to cap it off than with a few lush tunes & a pair of headphones? Who's with me? Let's chill. I'm starting to get a decent following on my Spotify playlist so any fans of SNC should check it out: http://spoti.fi/ChillWithMe . I try to post a couple songs on here every day. Future Music have announced sideshows for South African zef-siders Die Antwoord and proggy electronicists Aphex Twin . Arguably one of the most influential electronic artist in the history of contemporary dance music, Aphex Twin (AKA Richard David James) has been twisting minds and taking dancefloors on epic 'braindance' journeys since the release of his debut EP 'Analogue Bubblebath' back in 1991. Die Antwoord are a blistering trio of rap-ravers that know how to get a party started and take it into overdrive. Hailing from Cape Town in [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , The Hit List Getty Images (2) If it seems like the hip new bands of 2012 remind you of something you've heard before, one, you're old, but two, you're right. The adage "everything old is new again" is particularly applicable to modern music and there are a lot of acts who feel mighty familiar right now. Sensing a time-based forensic piece, we jumped in the Official Spinner [...]

How about that? Another 1994 album re-surfacing on vinyl . This time around it's Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works Volume II , which hasn't been on wax since its limited run back in the '90s. Once more, you can thank 1972 Records for this one. No telling if it has been remastered or if any bonus tracks will be included, but it does hit shelves on March 6th. If you're too lazy to stroll down to your local store, or you just want the comfort of a confirmation of sale, then go ahead [...]

delayscape - "stereo delay" (download) Some Aphex Twin-esque electronic music from Denmark's Delayscape . Delayscape's Morse Disco release is a double disc, and it's chock full of greatness.
Former raver kid and now Owl Mag writer, Sadia Harper, proves that electronic music isn't just about pacifiers and glow-sticks.
An ambient work that defies description.

Aphex Twin's Windowlicker is one of my all time favourite tracks. The balance between the treated sighing and the off-kilter synth lines is accessible leftfield techno perfection. Here are two remixes to download that take different paths. Aphex Twin - Windowlicker (MNHTTN:project Bootleg Remix) This doesn't depart too much from the basic template but adds a dubstep flavouring. Aphex Twin - Windowlicker (NOTE's We Licker Remix) This turns it more strongly down a kind of Germanic early 90s techno path. Perhaps because it departs more from [...]

It's been a couple of months since we have gotten a Mar Variation [ here ]. We aren't complaining, we know these things take time. The latest work is Avril 14th. This is a cover and variation (get it?) of Aphex Twin's track [ here ] and most recently used as a sample for Kanye West's Blame Game [ here ]. siriusmo - "nights off" (download) Siriusmo is Moritz Friedrich, a Berlin-based producer who releases music on Modeselektor 's Monkeytown Records. He does lots of remixes, and is rumored to be a prolific graffiti artist. This song, (from his 2009 release The Uninvited Guest) , is reminiscent of some of Aphex Twin 's slicker productions. soundcloud buy
Richard James came up with the idea of controlling a 48 piece string section and a 24 strong choir by remote control, using midi controllers, lots of headphones and some remote visual cues, after being commissioned to write some pieces for the European culture congress in Poland. There was only one opportunity for a rehearsal to see if the idea worked, it was in the morning, the day of the concert! This is the result. see the other Aphex Twin edits for this show here [...]

Here's a huge bootleg remix of Aphex Twin's Avril 14th from America's undisputed drumstep production team Terravita. Melodic and lush at the beginning before you're treated with all out sonic assault. These guys continue to be good ambassador of this hybrid sound of dubstep and drum'n'bass.
