photo credit: kathryn Apostle of Hustle is one of those amazing live bands that I feel just doesn't capture the whole deal when they record. The live show features amazing rhythms derived from flamenco tap dancing on a big amplified piece of wood. I'm hoping that hasn't changed. I've seen Andrew Whiteman with Broken Social Scene a couple times, once they were great and once they were terrible, but Whiteman is always consistantly good. His Cuban origin [...]

I recently listened--in their entireties--to both Feel Good Lost and You Forgot It In People , and it made me realize how much I am looking forward to and yearning for anything new coming from the Broken Social Scene camp. But is there anything on the horizon? Apparently they've done the score for a film called Snow Cake , but other than that there seems to be a dearth of news. For now, I suppose I'll have [...]

We've been fans of Apostle of Hustle since we saw them perform their hypnotic live set a couple years back at SXSW (in an Urban Outfitters, no less), but this new record is threatening to take our love for the BSS -ers to a new level. The whole of National Anthem of Nowhere (out Feb. 6) is an adventure in listening which, according to the label, ranges from "intimate minor-key mood music" to "flourishing interstellar guitar jams." The band's myspace page claims the new record contains the following: [...]

1. Ghosts & Liars - We'll Carry On - When Some By Sea broke up less than a year after releasing the masterpiece that was on Fire! (Igloo) , I was pretty downtrodden. Thankfully SBS's lead singer couldn't stop playing music, formed this new amazing band and decided to keep writing amazing songs such as this one. I can't wait for this album. [ it's a demo !] 2. The Good The Bad and The Queen - Herculean - In case you haven't [...]
On the heels of yesterday's belated Best Albums of 2006 list, it's time to look forward to what we can expect from this year. And since I got a little behind last year, what better way to ring in '07 than by jumping the gun and putting out its first 'Best Of' list. Fourteen picks might've done the trick for '06, but it's a new year and there's no way we can do it in less than twenty. The Best Albums of 2007: [...]
This morning I accidentally walked in on my two male Siamese cats on my bed in a compromising position. They both looked up at me, startled momentarily by my intrusion. It was awkward, and none of us said anything. The older cat licked his face, a silent signal to me that they wanted to be alone. As I left the room, I couldn't help but take another look at them, so I peered at them from around the door. As they stalked and pounced on each other, giving playful "love bites" and embracing in that tender [...]
Starting the year with a lazy post, since I imagine any reader of music blogs worth their salt has already heard this. But it's got a couple of worthy things going for it: 1) it's a great song, 2) it's from Apostle of Hustle which gave us the outstanding Folkloric Feel which eclipsed, in my opinion, labelmates, and sharer of band members, Broken Social Scene's You Forgot It in People . The new song is dynamic build up that lays the slowly developing melody on a bed of bouncing drums. It [...]
A couple of early-2007 releases are already getting a lot of play in the Idolator flophouse: the LCD Soundsystem album (from which we shall never post again, as we don't need any more LCD C&Ds), and Apostle Of Hustle's National Anthem Of Nowhere , which comes out March 6th. AOH is the side project of Broken Social Scene member Andrew Whiteman, and while his last album was heavy on floating-guitar sprawl, Anthem is sharper and punchier. Arts & Crafts has let one song loose on the web, but if they really love us, they'll also free up [...]
Tripwire informs us that Apostle of Hustle (who put on one of the best shows we saw at SXSW '05) are back with a track from their upcoming album, National Anthem Of Nowhere , due out in March . Apostle of Hustle , who happen to have one of the coolest band names ever, is one of the many Broken Social Scene -related bands on Arts & Crafts . Apostle of Hustle My Sword Hand's Anger mp3 [...]

New from our friends up north (READ: Arts&Crafts )... Apostle Of Hustle . It's something us Shatner-Stealing Mexico Touchers can all enjoy, EH? Download: "My Sword Hand's Anger" (mp3) Myspace page is here . Emusic page is here .

Arts & Craft 's Apostle of Hustle , aka Andrew Whiteman, will be releasing the follow-up to Folkloric Feel on March 6th in America. The album will be called National Anthem of Nowhere and will also be out February 6th in Canada and March 26th in Europe. Download a new song below - it's an interesting acoustic mix of mellow and surprisingly upbeat with a hint of lo-fi fuzz that leaves me quivering in my flip-flops (I love lo-fi). Apostle of Hustle - [...]

I remember living in Toronto when Broken Social Scene's You Forgot it in People came out. It was the type of album that seemed to leak into the air. People were talking about it all over the city. Conversations with any music fan would invitably bend towards singing its praises. My roomate at the time brought it home soon after the hype started, and we were both blown away. It sounded like indie rock fiberboard...tiny pieces of bigger things tightly packed together and compressed until they took shape. It wasn't until later that [...]
