Sorry everyone. It's finals week here at St. Bonaventure and we have been chasing papers and deadlines for what feels like forever. Anywhere here's a random Tuesday mix of fun stuff for you all to enjoy. The Libertines - All at Sea (Demo) - This track came off an exclusive CD released with The Observer newspaper in the UK. This just goes to show how good Pete Doherty was while he was still on drugs. Weezer - You Won't Get With Me Tonight - While you're waiting for the latest [...]

So last Sunday in San Francisco I picked up this random $1 pin at the Noise Pop Expo (in addition to a cool business card holder for my forthcoming cool business cards, and I waited too long to buy this gorgeous necklace and it was gone when I came with cash. Sad). Anyways. The pin on my bag strap now, which you can sort of make out over there in a bad cell phone snap, is a sensitive graphite rendering of Patrick Swayze circa Roadhouse [...]

- - - - My parents loved the music of Johnny Mathis when I was younger. But it wasn't just his music, really, as it seemed to small me that my mother and father also shared a genuine affection for the man; I truly believe that they saw in him a terrific human being. They weren't [...]

Fortunately, I managed to miss out on that 30 Seconds To Mars gig that JustHipper went to last week, so this was my first gig of the new year and my first in almost 8 weeks, which must be some kind of record. It was good to get back into the swing of things with what was a pretty decent start to the year. Support was from The Apostle Of Hustle , the band of Broken Social Scenester Andrew Whiteman, and it was easy to hear Whiteman's influence on the Canadian supergroup in the first couple of [...]

The bad part about waiting to put this out is it gets lost in the sea of lists . The good part is that it's given me the time to look at a lot of lists and see a few things I hadn't heard, which to me is one of the real points of it all, to make sure you've heard the cream of the crop. I've listened to virtually everything on most best-of lists that I looked at, and have got to say, that at least to my ears - the National, M.I.A., and Arcade Fire couldn't match [...]

Another Friday is upon us and you're probably saying, "So what? Fridays come and go. What's so special about this one, sucka?" First of all, don't call me sucka. Second this is the last Friday before XMAS. Most of us are scrounging to get last minute gifts or laughing away the final hours of work. This Friday post goes out to the people who are busting their butts this weekend working a service or retail job. These kind folks basically get no rest this time of year, and deserve all of our thanks. [...]

#23 - Apostle of Hustle - National Anthem of Nowhere Apostle of Hustle is another one of those band's who released a debut album that many expected would be hard to top. While this may be true, National Anthem of Nowhere is pretty solid in it's own right. The diverse instrumentations and sounds always seem to [...]
I'm not very good at comprising lists. Deciding if one album is better than the other gives me a headache. I do know there were a lot of good albums that came out this year that deserve to be remembered. Of Montreal's Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? was a winner from the first moment I pressed play(well maybe a couple of moments after I pressed play). They took their sound and truly funked it up, making bizarre indie electronic-ish dance music. I must say [...]
This mix is for those cold and snowy nights, when you are sitting by a fireplace and drinking hot chocolate... Animal Collective released easily one of their best cd's and collective member Noah Lennox know as Panda Bear released one of, if not the best album of the year. Broken Social Scene members were just as prolific this year with Feist, Kevin Drew and the Apostle of Hustle releasing new material. The Animal Collective Vs. Broken Social Scene = We are all Winners Award. Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam New collective, turns out to be [...]

One more quickly... Last May, Stars released a remix/cover album featuring an array of musician friends -- among them, Metric, Junior Boys, The Dears, etc. The album, titled Do You Trust Your Friends? , in its entirety wasn't all that impressive in my opinion, but one stand-out track that I love is Apostle of Hustle's cover of "One More Night." The song makes me feel like dancing the tango every time I hear it -- whether or not this is the proper beat for a tango, I'm not sure since I'm not much of dancer, but still [...]

According to Giovanni Maria Pala , an Italian computer tech, Leonardo Da Vinci hid a musical composition in "The Last Supper." The painting depicts JC and the 12 disciples at JC's last meal before his arrest and subsequent crucifixion. Pala argues that each loaf of bread represents a musical note, and that when a staff is drawn across the table, a few measures of music can be found. The music is said to sound like a requiem. Another site had the piece up briefly before taking it down for unknown reasons, and [...]

Arts & Crafts is set to release the third collection of new songs by Jason Collett. The new album, titled Here's To Being Here, will be released throughout North America on February 5, 2008. Here's To Being Here captures the essence of Jason's live performances and features the energy and musicianship of his touring band, Paso Mino. "This is very much a guitar record, in the sense of it being very tasteful...that's the greatest accomplishment of this record" says Collett, "recording in bigger spaces and live off the floor was the ideal I wanted to [...]
