Arthur Rigby and the Baskervylles - One Stormy Night ( mp3 ) There's something incredibly rustic about Arthur Rigby. You're thinking folk. Yes, you're sort of right, but not quite hitting the nail on the head. Lead singer (and composer) Benjamin, is accompanied by percussion and a mini orchestra for what is best described as the musical equivalent of one of those Innocent veg pots - it's completely organic, combining fresh, wholesome ingredients, and its so good for you. Collarbones - Don Juan As people can be dull, so can music. But there [...]
Big start to the week: ► One more night of Guns N' Roses , this time at the House of Blues. ► Berlin-based Sascha Ring (pictured), whose latest album as Apparat "The Devil's Walk" was lauded as one of the best electronic releases of the 2011, plays a full-band show at the El Rey Theatre. Apparat's new single "Candil De La Calle" is out Tuesday. ► NO's residency at the Echo vaults into its second week (the quintet will hop in an Austin-bound van right after the [...]

When looking up information about German electronic musician Sascha Ring, better known as Apparat , one of the first quotes you see, in explaining his switch from dance electronic music to something softer, he talks about becoming "more interested in designing sounds than beats." Just like Apparat's music, there is a simplistic beauty to that statement – created sounds he has done and ones that feel both worn-in and familiar and fantastically different at the same time. Ring has quite a musical history as well – he has collaborated with electronic band [...]
Apparat Organ Quartet does what it says on the tin. Five of them on the organ is all a bit Finbar Saunders. And a bit gimmicky. But is it any good? Free download to find out. This is uplifting synths, with a childlike enthusiasm, a bit of light electro and vocodered vocals. The whole thing comes off like The Polyphonic Spree's happy clappy cultishness given a synth makeover. Cute, if sugary. Blurb: Apparat Organ Quartet is probably the only organ quartet in the world with five members. They are without a doubt the [...]
Good things come in tens, not threes. At least that's the way I look at it. Yet, that statement makes this playlist title make even less since it's Vol. 1. and there are no others. Yes, we plan on making more. We wouldn't tease you with a Volume 1 and hold all of the rest back. That would be like Jay-Z coming out with In My Lifetime, then going dark on us. Not cool. We get it. We won't let you down. We'll start our Vol. 1 off strong. Our list holds up to its name too because [...]
Considering I only ever planned to have this feature go for maybe a month or two, it's surprising that we've now been running it - infrequently, I should point out - for over a year now. Hopefully there have been enough good songs in here to make it worth coming back to. And hopefully today's two choices will work for you too. It's a Sunday, so we all deserve to chill. First up it's a remix of Gang Colours' 'Fancy Restaurant', taken from his forthcoming EP of the same name. Spacy and laid back, it's bassy enough to [...]
Icelandic organ quartet Apparat is one of the more interesting musical groups I've come across in a while. As the only organ quartet in the world with five members, their sound is strangely unique and modern, with electronic-inspired songs all hand-played on "their extensive collection of Jurassic analog machinery." Formed in 1999 (that's 13 years ago), the group recently dropped their second album Pólyfónía, and are now putting out a remix EP of their most popular track, 123 Forever , set to be released on February 27th. Included on the EP is Montreal-based Robotaki [...]
If you ever imagined what it would be like to travel through space on the back of a unicorn, then you're probably a bit weird like us. It's never gonna happen man. The closest we can get to that feeling is to listen to this Robotaki remix of '123 Forever' by Apparat Organ Quartet . Close your eyes and imagine the unicorn is speaking those robotic words right in your face. Good, huh? Nine other remixes of the track, including ones from Foals and Dreamtrak, will be releases on February 27th. You can hear the original [...]

MP3 of the Day #504: Apparat
It seems all too rare these days to see artists remixing their own tracks. Thank goodness for Apparat. The Berlin super musician / producer has remixed 'Candil De La Calle', from last year's album 'The Devil's Walk'. And you want dub with that? This remix has got it in spades. Listen to and download the self remix below. You can read Braden's review of the Apparat live experience last year at London Koko here.
