Okay, that last one was a children's album that's only tangentially related to this here post, but it just serves to show that Robert Schneider is a seriously busy and talented dude. From kickstarting the whole Elephant 6 collective to pumping out albums full of psychedelic pop-rock-and producing that classic Netural Milk Hotel album we all know and [...]
There have been so many notable new releases that dropped in the past week that music lovers have plenty of great, new music to keep them busy, and which explains partly why we're late with this post (this week's releases will be posted soon, but first the really good stuff). While January is usually a [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Thee American Revolution - Blow My Mind mp3from forthcoming 5 December rerelease ofBuddha ElectrostormonFire RecordsWe're not really sure how to handle this one, other than with our ears, which are most assuredly pleasured thereby. The righteous LP by the combined forces of The Apples in Stereo frontman Robert Schneider, his brother-in-law Craig Morris, The Olivia Tremor Control's Bill Doss, and
As we learned last month, the All Tomorrow's Parties festival is finally set for March 9-11, 2012. The festival was originally scheduled to take place in December, but was postponed due to "a set of extremely unfortunate and unforeseen circumstances." It will still take place in Minehead, England and feature Jeff Mangum, The Magnetic Fields,

Self-professed psychedelic cavemen who pound out their primitive songs hastily in the garage, Thee American Revolution bathe fuzz drenched riffs and fill their debut album Buddha Electrostorm with gem upon gem of Elephant Six like songs. Robert Schneider's (Apples in Stereo) pop smarts can't be denied, and paired with Craig Morris, the duo conjure up a mighty tasty racket. Overseen by the mysterious direction of Wm. Shears, Thee American Revolution blaze ahead as if every song was made with cane sugar and was a number one single. Originally released on Garden [...]
Sunsettes are a Tampa-based duo specializing in funk-tinged indie-rock. Comprised of Nathan Kozyra and Michael Schlein, Sunsettes quietly released their debut Coup de Grace last December. Their compositions are frequently led by acoustics and keys, with Kozyra assuming a vocal delivery incorporating both stream-of-conscious narratives and straightforward romantic metaphors. Although the instrumental arsenal is mainly [...]
Sometimes, nostalgia turns out to be a very good thing. A long time ago, The Adventures of Pete & Pete was a totally awesome show. And after watching it again just this afternoon, it turns out it's still totally awesome and a lot deeper in the musically awesome department than we realized at age eight (and we're not just talking the theme music). When discussing the music of Pete & Pete , it all starts with Polaris. The wonderfully '90s theme song "Hey Sandy" was penned by Mark Mulcahy, originally the frontman for Miracle Legion [...]

We're very excited and honored to be presenting this mixtape by one of our favorite musicians, the wonder that is Datahowler . He's crafted this one in honor of the heatwave/drought that Texas experienced this summer from which they are just now recovering. In his own original work he draws from a myriad of influences, so it's only fitting that this would be an eclectic bundle of joy. More than just a mix, it's an explorative journey of sound. Stream it through his bandcamp here, or grab the .zip of mp3s . He's also [...]

When I was in college I spent a year and a half living in Italy. Ostensibly I was there to study literature and Renaissance Art, as per the standard requirements of a junior year abroad, but mostly I spent my time cavorting with my new Italian friends and learning how to cook the perfect spaghetti carbonara. I drank a lot of wine, chased a lot of girls and spent countless late nights smoking serious looking cigarettes while I stared out my window at the Piazza St. Croce. It probably comes [...]
Summer hit parts of the country from the west to the east early this year. In fact, we are reminded of how many people have said recently that it seems to get hotter earlier each year. And the scientific facts support these observations. But who really cares any more? When the economy was humming along [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Across many regions of the United States Sunday, rain is in the forecast. From the San Francisco Bay Area to Boston, from Texas to Chicago, and Portland to New York, there is a common theme - rain. Therefore, it makes sense that this third installment (listen to/download mix one and two) of the recent Sounds [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
:: Tommy is being resurrected by Townshend and Daltrey . Simon Townshend and Roger Daltrey, that is... :: Not only did Apples in Stereo frontman Robert Schneider invent a new instrument, but Jeff Mangum composed some music for it . :: I'm utterly speechless . Honest. :: The Strokes are already back in the studio working on a new album. Sucks, because I was really hoping I wouldn't have to hear anything from them for at least another five years. [...]
So, somehow I missed it, but back in September, Pitchfork reported that Robert Schneider from Apples in Stereo invented a MIND CONTROLLLED INSTRUMENT. No, this is a real thing. Seriously. As if that wasn't cool enough (and I cannot, at present, think of anything that is actually cooler than that), he also teaches you how to make your own, which I am ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY going to do: As if THAT weren't cool enough, it comes with a bonus. [...]
Don't get me wrong, I think bands and artists should primarily focus on their sounds and not so much their names. With that caveat, it would seem that as bands (and artists) build brands, a good name would be even more valuable to their efforts. Yet, there are too many examples of band names that are dumb, mundane, and/or make absolutely no sense. And they seem more commonplace than ever. It doesn't affect the music. It's just a headscratcher. These artists and bands overcome their names with enjoyable music. Thus, the list of good songs by bands [...]

The best way to get a feel for a band is to hear them live. It's a great way to start a review, too; the presentation is a vivid description of the group's power onstage, a retelling of the moment you realized that driving all the way out to see the show was worth it. [...]

If Godzilla is on your show poster, I will talk about you. Didn't I see you at Weedeater on Monday night? Oh, I didn't? That's because I was played hooky and wasn't there. Where I was happens to be none of your business (read: sitting on my bed, fatigued and shoegazing). The underlining point is that [...]
